Stanley Rankin: Street Parking Enemy #1

Pratt Blvd. street parkers. Please, stop giving Stanley Rankin a chance to give you a parking ticket. He will call the police on you if you park your car even the slightest bit in his precious handicap space. Like this poor sap. Stanley has nothing better to do than call the police 10 times a day. Don't allow Rankin to make your car the next victim. Don't park even six inches inside the poles at 1136 West Pratt. He will call the police to have your car ticketed.

I wouldn't write that ticket.

Stanley is a real jerk-weed, too. I live in the same building as he does, and run-ins with him aren't pleasant. This guy has cursed at me for getting a few drops of water down on his patio while watering the grass in our courtyard -- volunteering my own time to do so. And watch out if you get anywhere near his ride, I hear he's got weapons. I guess he used to be a cop, and he sustained his injury in the force. Not sure on that.

It's sad to have such a bitter and angry man calling the cops on people. My profession is in handicapped accessibility, oddly enough, but this guy is abusing the system. But we all know he has to get in and out of that spot every day so he can clean the rims on his hoop-ride.

Hmm, this is from a couple weeks ago, isn't it? I saw the family of the people that owned the Chevy taking 9 million pictures of where it was parked and how it was parked. I assume the intent is to fight the ticket.

I would imagine that fine is higher than the usual $50.oo.

Sad.

What the &##)$# is going on at Rogers and Clark? Or somewhere in this vicinity? I have heard dozens of cops for the last 20 minutes non stop?!?!

MS21- Stanley a cop? That's a laugh. He is not really injured. It's a scam he perpetrated when he rented a condo under a section 8 lease in his last place of residence a few blocks away. He faked an injury there. He then did the same thing for another "injury" against the Park Grill restaurant at Millenium park where he worked in the kitchen. As far as giving the ticket, the cops have to or else are hit with complaints they are racist since he plays the race card every chance he gets. Easier to give the ticket. He is a renter in your building under a section 8 lease.

So, if 'test's' statement is true, this guy is living in this condo development on Pratt on a Section 8 voucher and he has a nice, shiny newer auto sitting in a space created just for him. Nice.

That condo building looks like the one on Pratt just east of RoPa restaurant. Those units were sold to some people for $195K to $400K.

Nice.... some parasitical schmuck tapping into the welfare system gets a nicely-rehabbed apartment that would rent for at least $1100 a month on our dime, has enough money left over for a car, and has his entire life to spend doing nothing but making everyone else miserable who lives in the vicinity, with further demands for a reserved parking space.

Such is the Welfare State. If you know how to work the system, you can get lavish benefits with very little investment in time or money, and insurance against your own mistakes. A guy like this can get a well-appointed condo that many working folk could not afford, while his landlord owner gets bailed out of a bad financial mistake by being able to get guaranteed rent from the Feds that will cover his mortgage. The developers of these places got EZ money loans made possible by Ginnie Mae, Freddie Mac and the other GSAs, not to mention the FHA, that we are paying trillions in federal dollars to back and bail, along with the banks that would never have made the loans to begin with were it not for the taxpayers guarantees.

There is a handicap parking area on my block and for the past two years that I have lived here, I have never seen anyone parking in it. I once knew a lady that was issued a handicap spot because she was over weight and she would get a rash between her legs if she walked to far, yet I would see her walking back and forth from one end of the mall to the other with no problem. Maybe she wouldn't of been over weight and had this problem if she WALKED more. Handicap spaces should only be issued to the real handicapped people who are in real need, not for someone who gets a rash. What a joke.

He not only tapped in, he hit the motherload with the handicap act. He was in cahoots with a doctor of known questionable character who only "treats" cases of this nature. Yes this is just East of RoPa.

I work with MOPD (Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities)from time to time. I know that this is one of their challenges, researching the validity of these accessible parking stalls in residential neighborhoods. It's a big problem, especially in places like RP where parking is already scarce. Sometimes people pass away or move and the parking stall remains for years before anything is done about it. We should be calling 311 if a stall isn't being used, or used improperly. In Mr. Rankin's case, I think we're all at a loss.

Yes, Al, this was taken a couple of weeks ago. But, the fact of the matter is, Stanley calls for this offense way too often. This particular car was over-kill when I heard it - and was in my hopper for a story while I'm out of town.

The North Coast said...

Jeez, ms21, she gets disability privileges because of a RASH?

Holly molly, am I ever dumb. Not only did I miss out on my opportunity to get the taxpayers to buy me a $400K condo via the mortgage rescue programs, but I've also missed out on tens of thousands of dollars in disability benefits for all those twisted ankles and skin rashes and what-have-you over the years.

Should I get disability for my feet? I mean, I have these really bad, flat feet that hurt me a lot. Can I somehow make them PAY?

Forget about Craig-he's a jerk. I'd like to know why ROPA gets a quarter block loading zone on a block with so little parking? And how can it be changed?

Unknown said...

What a creep that guy is - I'm sure he's not fun to live around. There's always someone out there that works the system, instead of contributing. People better pay attention then because the Dems in charge wants the government running more and more and giving, giving, giving. I also wonder where my piece of the pie is!

Al Iverson said...

Well, I want RoPa to have that space, on the off chance it helps them succeed, even slightly. So I guess not all of us want that changed.

Unknown said...

If we want Rogers Park to attract nice restaurants like RoPa and other businesses, we're going to support them with our business and make a few sacrifices, like let them have space for valet and loading.

We can't always have it both ways.

I have a few neighbors who are pissed at me for giving Reside on Morse a slide. They ate up 3 spots on Lunt and 2 on Morse for "No Parking Zones."

I tell them Reside on Morse is worth every spot, and take your gripe to the alderman. That's not a story I'm covering. I like Reside on Morse. They are very good neighbors.

The North Coast said...

RoPa needs that loading zone, and it has always existed for restaurants that occupied the space that Ropa is now housed in.

People have to know that parking is very tight and is going to be a problem for anyone in any of the north lakefront neighborhoods. It's something to consider before moving into an area like Rogers Park, Edgewater, Uptown, Lakeview, or Lincoln Park with a car, unless you have reserved parking.

Complaining about the lack of parking around here is sort of like buying a house in Rosemont right under a flight path, then complaining about airport noise.

Does "DELIVERY IN THE REAR" ring a bell? I have lived in several buildings that had little metal signs posted on them stating Delivery In The Rear. Wasn't that and garbage pick up what Alley's were invented for? I see traffic backed up for miles on Sheridan Road during rush hour sometimes because a UPS truck is delivering a package and most of the time the property has a huge drive way and alley that the delivery guy could park in but NOOOOOO, he choses to back up traffic for miles instead.

can't we get one of our friendly, neighborhood sullivan students to "borrow" his car? or at least give it a nice "cleaning"?

Razldazlrr said...

Right, there are several neighborhoods in Chicago that are the very same. We did have sticker parking in Lakeview, which I thought was a great idea. I'm not in college and I'm not going to drive around looking for a spot, so I wouldn't move to a building that didn't have a garage or a place to put the car. You want businesses, Craig is right - they need dedicated spaces. **What is going on with the Morse Theatre?? (I always thought they should offer valet - people with money aren't going to come up here and park blocks away and walk there)

Razldazlrr said...

I walked by the "Stanley parking spot" yesterday - wow - he has a mighty nice car for someone that needs housing assistance! Maybe we all should apply for a subsidy.

The North Coast said...

Yeah Raz, he has an awfully nice car, AND he gets Section 8 subsidies to live in a nice newly rehabbed condo that had an ask price of $195(not that it was worth it or anything)with all the gizmos- granite and stainless and all that. I know, I viewed condos in this building.

Think of the whole chain of people being supported on our dime, while we rent $900 apartments and somehow get by without cars:

1. The Section 8 tenant, who gets a nice apt most working folk couldn't afford, with federal bucks;

2. The condo owner, who thus gets rescued from a bad financial mistake and would otherwise probably end up in foreclosure, but can collect an above-market rent via Section 8;

3. The developer, who benefited hugely from the flood of fake money made available for FHA and the GSEs and Fannie Mae to buy all those crap mortgages so they could choke on them and get funded by the taxpayers.

4. The agencies themselves, which employ thousands of overpaid people just to provide a market for mortgages that would never have gotten written if they weren't available to buy them.

Razldazlrr said...

How can you have a car like that and still consider yourself Section 8? Well, folks - keep working hard because the money giveaways to those who don't want to work are just going to be greater!

Craig, So you like "Reside on Morse" and they are good neighbors but what is the purpose of having no parking zones in front of the building? Loading and unloading? They have parking under the building where residents can load and unload. The only purpose is to make their property grander than it is. Its called marketing. How did they manage to get those zones? Did they grease someone's palm?

How many posts have you made because developers were doing things contrary to the communities benefit. Cuz you like "Reside on Morse", you wont go down that path. As much as you dislike our alderman, you wont touch this issue.

Five parking spots doesn't seem like a lot until you're 60 years old, have bad knees, cant afford to rent a parking spot and end up parking blocks away cuz that's the only spot you were able to find. Then having to walk through a gauntlet of shiftless individuals, just to get home. Guess this will become a story when the 60 year old gets assaulted.
