craig what is your email?
i had a messed up incident happen today.

Please post this, everyone needs to know that there is a dangerous person with a brand new dodge charger living at 6914 n wayne.

i need your email to send it to you.

What happened at nine tonight
was a brand new dodge charger parked in my driveway at first he was blocking one tenant and that tenant had to threaten bodily harm with a baseball bat before he moved his car then he moved his car such that he was blocking the entire sidewalk with his car and parking in one of my other tenants spots, its the building at the corner of farwell and wayne the northwest corner.

i called the cops because of this flagrant illegal parking.

I told the guy that he couldnt park here and that he had to take his car away.

The guy, about 6 foot something
comes over to me and says
"You are just talking tough because the cops are here. I will knock your block off right here in front of the cops."

The cops, two women proceed to tell me that i need to go inside
because im escalating the situation
and that they didnt hear his threat.

Hmmm. Property owner confronts flagrant illegal parker in front of cops and he gets sent inside.

Good job cops. Glad to know that you are watching my back.

This happened tonight craig.

I do critisize your blog
but I know the importance of it.
Something is dead wrong with this neigborhood and it needs to be spelled out.

THe cops dont give a shit about property owners and they tolerate threats to property owners and they dont give a crap about flagrant illegal parking

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

I guess the cops dont really help if there are real problems.

What would it take for a cop to actually take a threat to be real.

I was incensed with this flagrant illegal parking.

As any normal person would be.
Thats all. That doesnt deserve a threat. And it doesnt deserve to have a cop blow it off.

Thanks for blowing off a threat copper.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

Not to mention that he had my car was blocked in as well.

I really feel that the cops of Rogers Park have serious issues.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

I didnt know that cops had control
over reality.

Reality cops.

I didnt hear that.
Or was it that you werent listening?

Huh, cops are selectively retarded.

I came through the area around 3 oclock and Thugs were everywhere up and down Pratt. The cops had several of them jacked up inside the mini mart. It looked like a mid-summer day in south central. You could tell something was in the air. To many older thugs hanging around. It didn't suprise me when the shots fired calls started coming in around 4 oclock.

A nice day and the scumbags seem to surface from their holes

driftin said...

Hey Jeffo, if the police showed up then I would say that they DID care about you as a property owner. Maybe the police told you to go inside to prevent a trespassing situation from turning into an assault and battery situation because you were instigating. Maybe they were trying to look out for your best interest. Maybe they have enough serious problems to deal with in Rogers Park without you creating an even bigger problem with the guy you confronted. Just a thought.

Hmmm, is this really surprising considering the CHA house right next door? Half the time you're lucky if you can drive past with out the thugs blocking the street. Now that's it's getting nice out side, the cops would much rather sit at the end of Pratt and stare at the lake

It absolutely FLAMES me to read jeffo's report. I have witnessed this sort of apathy on the part of our public servants too often.

The officers who responded to jeffo's call should have promptly arrested the parking offender for threatening jeffo, and towed his car for blocking the driveway.

The CHA townhomes at Pratt & Bosworth seem to be the root of a lot of problems on Pratt between Greenview and Clark.

1735 W. Pratt, just west of Clark, has become one the slummiest buildings in the area, and the two 3-flats on the same block seem to have caught the same disease. I called this building in as potentially harboring a meth lab, for a friend of mine who was trolling for an apt. in the area said she checked this dump out, and smelled ammonia and chlorine in the hallways, along with the usual foul, rotten odors of a badly kept, uncleaned building.

I try my best to report bad situations as they come into my line of sight, and I try to follow up. So do most of the other posters in here. But we have LIVES, we have to GO TO WORK or LOOK FOR JOBS, and, unlike the police or our alderman, we ARE NOT PAID to do this stuff.

It absolutely enrages me that our alderman and other government workers expect the citizens at large to do their work for them on an unpaid basis. Our august public services get their scheduled COLA raises while the rest of the country spirals down into the worst recession since the 30s, and the rest of us lose jobs, or get pay cuts, or our incomes stagnate as the businesses we work for lose customers and revenue, or die altogether.

Nothing we citizens do seems to get us anywhere. Our officials make all the appropriate noises at our public safety meetings, then go back to their usual routines.

Seems to me that when someone posts five consecutive times on the same subject that there might, just might be a whole different side to this story. But your right Northcoast, let's blame the cops. Let's not even consider the possibility that ole Jeffo is embellishing or was actually escalting the situation.

Hey Craig, Random question; What happened to your original logo... the broken heart? Could you put that back up for a few days? I miss it!

Regarding shots fired on Pratt, RP is much like the wild west! Everyone has a gun, can't shoot worth a shit, will shoot at anything including the kitchen sink and has the education of a 3 year old!

All in all, a very bad combination!

Jeffo,

I can't defend the guy who parked in the driveway but when you mention a baseball bat wielding tenant, it sounds to me like there where two a-holes involved.

The cops made the right call in difusing the situation.

Razldazlrr said...

Big Daddy - was wondering the same thing

tom terrific said...

Jeffo,

It sounds like you have a private parking space or spaces.

Hire a towing firm to deal with illegal parking.

Those towing dudes know how to deal with thugs.

MadeInRogersPark said...

re the driveway issue
Has happened to me numerous times
they need to learn the hard way!
do not put yourself at risk - just call 311!
Someone will be out in a flash!
They ticket the car and put in a call for a tow.Have you ever seen the parkers face when he comes a looking for his wheels?
It is actually pretty funny. The police like doing this because the cars go to impound and if the owner doesn't pay the fine the cars go to the auction block!

The North Coast said...

I am not a cop-blamer. In most confrontations between cops and criminals, I side with the cop. Far be it from me ever to fault an officer for doing his job.

However, when a property owner tells a trespasser to get the hell off his property and the asshole refuses to comply, but threatens the property owner instead, and the cops do not arrest the trespasser, there is a problem.

However, another poster here was dead correct- hire a towing company to come and get the loser's car. Let him deal with Lincoln Park Towing or someone like that. They know just how to handle the jerk.

Thanks Big Daddy for saying just what I was thinking....

Big Daddy said...

Northcoast, that's very good of you to "side with the cops most of the time when they are in a confrontation with a criminal". I wonder in which ones you side with the criminal. But I guess "most of the time" is better than "half of the time" or "none of the time". Me? Where I come from we always side with the Police when they confront criminals. To do anything else only invites anarchy and creates an apathetic Police Department. And we don't condemn them based on what a person posts five consecutive times on a blog, a person who has an obvious interest in the matter, when we did not witness the incident and have nothing other than the original posters comments in which to base an opinion on. But I thank you for your support.
Most of the time.

The North Coast said...

Daddy, I never, never, NEVER side with a criminal.

However, I side with innocent citizens who are being treated as criminals for asserting their rights as American Citizens, which "jeffo", a frequent poster on this blog and a conscientious local landlord, did.

These episodes are rare, and I don't believe these cops represent the force as a whole, which is why I wonder why you are getting so defensive. When I criticize the actions of a particular officer, I am NOT flaming the entire force.

What infuriates me about this episode is that it is indicative of a larger problem our society is having, which is a flagrant disregard for property rights that is practically official policy.

I will never side with a criminal, Daddy. I was cheered to hear that the woman thief who attempted to pull a gun from an officer's holster got shot. That was the only way to respond.

So don't be so defensive. I'm sure you believe in property rights and in a citizen's right to have someone arrested who is trespassing. I'm critical because this property owner was treated like a criminal while the miscreants who were violating his rights and threatening him walked free. So what if he was "escalating" the situation? He had a right to order the asshole to get the car off his property, and the loser should be grateful jeffo didn't just have it towed, which is what I would have done.

But then, if jeffo had had the jerk's car towed, he might have been looking at violent reprisals from the jerk. I had a landlord in another city who was afraid to have an unauthorized vehicle parked in MY private space out, because of his fear of the tenant involved, a wealthy drug dealer. We've enabled crudballs like this to feel totally entitled to help themselves to what other people have- their money, their property- and have no fear of their victims or the authorities.

Now this loser will feel free to park on jeffo's property anytime he pleases.

Charlie Didrickson said...

I'm sure you do Charlie

Chicago has my number.

Big Daddy said...

Northcoast, I'm not defensive at all. I'm perfectly willing to admit that this situation may have been handled incorrectly. But I will not do that until I hear an objective comment from a person other than jeffo. I resent it when people chime in with an opinion when they don't have a clue as to what happened other than what the original poster said. You don't know what happened there anymore than I do. The difference is when I see the same guy make five consecutive posts about the same subject, I wonder what really happened. I suspect that MAYBE we are not hearing the whole story, MAYBE we are not hearing the truth about what really happened. You say that ole jeffo was treated like a criminal. On what basis do you make that assertion? Jeffo's post? How do you know that the Police were not going to handle this in the proper manner but that ole jeffo was escalting it to the point where violence could have taken place? I'm not saying that's what happened but I can assure you that over the years I've dealt with THOUSAND'S of people in incidents just like this who become tough guys all of a sudden when the Police arrive. I myself have had to order complainants away from the scene because they were so obnoxious when we arrived. But let's examine what really happened according to jeffo. Let's use his own words. Who treatened who? Even jeffo admits that the owner of the Dodge Charger was threatened with violence with a baseball bat if he didn't move his car. By his own admission jeffo apparently was talking tough when the Police arrived, hence, I would imagine, the reason the cops ordered him away in the first place. So in reality, it could have been jeffo that actually committed a crime. Perhaps ole jeffo is the one who should have been arrested. Perhaps it was jeffo who committed the crime of assault. But you notice I say perhaps. You know why? Because I wasn't there. Just as you were not.
Parking violations are not a crime no matter how aggravating they are. Running out and confronting the driver of the car when the Police arrive which if we are to believe jeffo,is what he did, is not only stupid but depending on what you say, could make YOU the criminal in the matter. Being a complainant does NOT allow you to commit a crime or escalate a situation. And finally, while you claim to always support the Police ,never the criminal, it was YOU that said you support the Police in most cases when they confront criminals. You said that, not me. In "most cases". Your words, not mine.
One more thing. Read jeffos posts again. Now tell me that he is or was rational that night. And I wonder how quickly this situation would have been handled had jeffo simply called 911, stated that there was a car parked illegally blocking his car and preventing him from leaving his home rather than charging out into the street and confronting the driver when the Police arrived. Had jeffo done that, done what he is supposed to do, what he should have done, we would not even be talking about this.

i posted 5 consecutive times
because i was pissed at the time
and there was adrenaline.

Hey yeah there are two sides....

He, the illegal parker was an ahole.

And when something that flagrant happens you get pissed.

Im calm now, and hey shit happens.
I understand what the cops were doing, I dont know what they told this perp but i did see him later sneak back into his apartment and he didnt say a word to me
and he has parked on the street several times since
correctly.

So I think he learned his lesson.
He was just a young punk that thought he could park however the hell he wanted i guess.
But I wont hold a grudge,
but I would like an apology

If someone is pissed and they have good reason to be.
You should try to calm them down and appease them
not escalate the situation by not recognizing the seriousness of the problem. Which is what he did.

If I piss someone off and I am in the wrong, I dont try to start a fight, I try to resolve it.

Btw my tenant had to get a b-ball bat out because he was being such an asshole and wouldnt leave nicely the first time and look what he did he parked really messed up.

I do appreciate big daddy's comments,
However when someone violates your property like that, not to mention violating public property,
you want to make it loud and clear that this is not okay.
Plus I had heard from my tenant that the guy lived next door.
I dont want to live in fear of a tenant next door and I do know the landlord next door.
So that is why I confronted him,
he was being very unneigborly
and i want to know if someone unbalanced is living next door to me.

Btw how many times do people park such that you block the entire sidewalk? Im betting not too often.
And if they are its a car accident
or they have a really good reason like moving something
Not just because someone feels like it.

I think the cops couldve handled it better to be sure.
They treated the whole situation quite cavalierly.
Am I a tough guy for telling this guy in an angry tone to get his car off my parking area and Im showing that Im upset?
Maybe. Or Maybe I was just pissed that some ahole parked like an ahole.

I couldve just put a sticker on the car that said "nice park job asshole".
Alot of people think that no one should ever get upset. Well how bad does something have to get before you get upset? OR should we all just be passive aggressive?

THis guy was passive aggressive,
oh ill just put my car in such a way to block your car in and ruin your other parking spot, but hey how dare you get mad at me for doing that, why are you so upset its no big deal.

Jesus now thats stupid

Thanks all

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

Btw, to make things clear
my tenant who to take her baseball bat out to get him to move his car,
is a very nice person, but this person wont take shit, I was surprised that she did this, but I respected it.

And while I didnt see it, I know she wasnt wildly swinging, she was just showing him she meant business.

Sure you could look at it, where we are insane people who are nuts about are parking spots egging this guy on to further stupidity.

Or the more logical conclusion that this guy just didnt understand that its not ok to park on other peoples driveways. And he just doesnt repect private property.

I mean, who goes around parking on random peoples driveways anyways.
Thats just asking for trouble.

And when you go looking for trouble you usually find it.

rogerspark60645 said...

jeffo,

Another suggestion..spend a few bucks at Autozone (Touhy and Washtenaw) to buy some brake fluid. Dump some on the hood of the parker's car and watch what happens...HA HA HA!!!

jeffo,

Placing a plastic grocery bag in his gas tank works wnders.

I'll take plastic not paper hanks...HA HA HA!!!

The North Coast said...

jeffo, you and other property owners need to do the following, pronto:

First, Get a really LARGE sign, like 3'X 3' at least, that says PRIVATE PROPERTY FOR TENANTS ONLY ALL UNAUTHORIZED VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED BY LINCOLN PARK TOWING. And post what it will cost them. Post this sign at the foot of the drive where they will see it when they enter your drive.

Maybe you also want to pass a notice around to your tenants to make sure they don't let guests park there.

Then, when some loser parks there, pick up your digital cam and snap a photo of the offending vehicle, making sure you get a good shot of the license plate.

And call the Lincoln Park bandits and have the car carried away.

Let the offender figure out what the hell happened to his car. And if he can't front the money to get it out of the tow yard, that is just his problem.

If the loser knocks on your door,,don't open it. Just tell him through the door that all unauthorized vehicles are towed, and to please leave your building or you will have him hauled in for trespassing. Don't open the door whatever you do, but call the police and have them come and get him if he doesn't leave.

billyjoe said...

Then again, Jeffo could simply move out of Rogers Park and into a decent neighborhood or suburb where he won't have to worry about this stuff happening again.

The North Coast said...

You're quite wrong about that, billyjoe.

My mother dwells in a cheaper house in a pricey neighborhood of mansions in a very nice St. Louis suburb. When the house next to her was put up for sale, the asshole who was eventually to buy it, an extremely affluent and arrogant young man, parked his BMW blocking her driveway. Well, and my mother is a timid woman who doesn't like confrontations and didn't want to cause a problem for the neighbor selling the house, so she put up with it. When the guy moved in, he continued to engage in similar obnoxious, un-neighborly behaviors, and my mother broke out a bottle of sparkling wine when he moved away.

Asshole behavior is pretty prevalent in the suburbs these days, which is why there is so much road rage out there and increasing violence on the highways. Remember the road-rage shooting of last week.
close to each other. We can't act like we're in Schaumburg or some such place.

We all need to do better in this country.

M BIG said...

Maybe you can park in Evanston, billyjoe, but you can't drive anywhere! That is the one suburb where you are guaranteed to be behind someone going 20 with their foot on the brake. You can have your precious Evanston. Half of it has the same crime as RP anyway.
