Good for him. He's going to private industry and doubling his salary. No more 110 hour weeks, no more ungrateful citizens, no more weekend or holiday at work,no more jody weis. It's a win,win for him. Too bad for you because it appeared that you finally had a Commander who was competent and cared about the people rather than being a bean counter or ticket puncher.

Wow - didn't he just take over this area?

I should of mentioned this earlier. I think we are going to see more than one member of the command staff put his/her papers in. They are simply just tired of this mayor and superintendent. He is asking them to take anywhere from 16-20 days off with no pay. But the kicker is, he still wants them to come in and work. So in addition to the loss of the pay, you still have to work. I think there is a word for that. Slavery comes to mind. You all wonder why crime is so rampant. One need look no further than the superintendents office or the mayors office for an answer to that question. They have virtually destroyed the CPD. And the senior members of the command staff getting tired of it and many will probably opt out. Why be kicked around when you can retire with a pension or a new, better job?

Locked up a guy last night. One hundred twenty one arrests. Yes, you read it right, he had a rap sheet that indicated he had been arrested 121 times in the past. And you blame us.

Big Daddy...

I assume the conviction and sentencing of Cozzi isn't helping things.

So is the commander's resignation specifically about Daley and Weis or was this just an offer he couldn't refuse?

Big Daddy, it's obvious that most of our police are completely disgusted with Daley.

The police despise him. Half the citizens despise him.

This guy is a destroyer. He had taken a city that in 1987 was absolutely solvent and had excellent police and public transit, and driven it to the edge of BK, with an undermanned, underfunded, and badly demoralized police force, deteriorating transit, an aged sewer system that is more obviously decrepit every day, while he rams pharoanic, unnecessary public works projects like the el 'super' station and the Last 4 Miles down our throats, along with the idiotic Olympics, while turning the city into one big TIF district to fund non-taxpaying entities like Loyola.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO UNSEAT THIS GUY AND HIS MINIONS? Is there anyone out there who could show against him in an election? Or even get on the ballot? Tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm told that in order to run for Mayor, you need to get 25,000- that's right, twenty-five thousand- signatures on your petition to be on the ballot. Is this true? If it is, that is clear election rigging and we need to take this to court.

Let's think of SOMEONE who might make a good candidate for mayor. Anita Alverez, perhaps? Someone decent, who could win, who isn't part of the Daley-Stroger machine. A pipe dream, I know. But we have to make the effort, before this guy turns Chicago into another Detroit.

I doubt Cozzi had anything to do with this. After all, you don't submit your resume on Thursday morning and expect to get hired Thursday afternoon. Nobody is that good. It has more to do with a good offer and disgust with Daley and Weis.

Commander Sobczyk has been "the best thing to happen" in the 24th District this year. And I understand what 'Big Daddy' syas re: a new job, less stress etc.

What do we do now, here, in Rogeres Park? Sit on our buttresses and be as complacent as ever in regard to our rights as citizens of the City of Chicago?

We desperately need 'another' David Sobczyk--immediately--to continue his defense of citizens of Rogers Park.

Shall we petition Supt. Weis? Would he even acknowledge us? Petition 'Da Mare'? Does he even care about us?

It's difficult to come up with a solution at the moment. We are citizens of Rogers Park, the northernmmost neighborhood of Chicago. We have a poor excuse for an alderman, but--SURELY--we have some sort of clout in this 'CLOUT-HEAVY'town?

Ditto, North Coast. Who could run against Daley? Scott Waugespack? Forest Claypool? Hell, I'd even take Joe Moore. Now there's an idea...

Public Servant to do public service.

I think that is what Daley is "asking" of all he can ask.
Rank and file more than others.

This does seem to keep moral low across all city employees. Not really certain if this is good or bad. But if someone can double an underpaying job in this economy then cool.

24 like the Saints not a bad organization to end your career with but you must show good management skills and the ability to work with anyone to get that good 24 sendoff.

This is the worst possible news for the 24th District and the North of Howard area.

Just when we were starting to see real progress. It was encouraging to see the thugs and low lifes moved off the streets and street corners.

We need the same strong skills in our new commander. Hopefully we can get that. If not, this neighborhood goes right back to hell.

Good luck to Commander Sobczyk in his future endeavors.

Big Daddy - I really appreciate your insight as I have great respect for the police but know very little about the internal workings. It amazes me that someone is on the street with 121 arrests or that the thug arrested for killing the policeman a week ago was out of jail. Is there any hope of a new superintendent for the police?

Big Daddy said...

Is there any hope for a new Superintendent? I don't really know. We suspect that weis will be gone soon but I suspect that is only wishful thinking on our part. The reality is that once a decision on the Olympic's is made, good or bad, we may see some movement. But in any event, I don't see him staying on when his contract expires.

Raz, here we come to the matter of the unbelievably irrational and ineffectual American justice system.

All my life, I've heard it: The police did their job, the prosecutors did their job, the jury did its job..

But the judge handed down a sentence that was laughably lightweight, or if the sentence was appropriate, it got overturned on appeal, or the guy got "good time" because he managed to behave himself for 6 whole months in the big house, or something.

I hear of people getting released after 22 years for raping and murdering a child, and then murders 3 teen boys in IN. I hear of $50K bond for 1st degree murder. A man who murdered his wife in MO got two years for this, then came to work at my place of work and shot 3 people to death in the shops in 1974. He is now out on the streets and is maybe 60 years old. He will most likely kill again. I hear of cases just like these over and over- stone thug killers walking free after serving short sentences for brutal crimes.... while we're filling the jails up with druggies and whores.

We can't even come up with a viable alternative to run in the next Aldermanic race. How in the world can we expect to come up with a viable candidate for the next Mayoral election? Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but I do believe Daley isn't so much the Mayor of Chicago as he is the KING of Chicago. I keep coming back to Meigs Field - what he did there was nothing short of vandalism in the dead of night and then he added insult to injury by claiming it was an "air safety" issue in the aftermath of 9/11. He won by a freaking landslide in the next election! The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. When it comes to politics and politicians in this city the collective voting public is . . . INSANE!

Right now, I'd settle for a resonable and viable alternative to our current Aldercreature for the next election. Mr./Ms. WhoeverYouAre, please step forward. Rogers Park needs you.

- PEACE -

Fargo - I agree to some extent but Meigs Field really didn't affect that many people personally (how many people flew in and out of Meigs?) But Daley and all the rest of our wonderful Chicago politicians are costing people more money now and that seems to be when they pay attention. There are so many people that truly have no clue about local or national politics. There need to be viable opponents. UP to this point I haven't seen anyone I would vote for over Daley (I don't think it will be the same problem with Moore, most people committed to the neighborhood could do a much better job).
