Shots Fired on Jonquil/Shots fired on Morse

4:48 AM: 911 calls are flooding in for "shots fired" at Jonquil and Paulina. We're getting "shots fired" at Jonquil and Hermitage. Police radio back to dispatch claiming to hear 4 "shots fired." We're getting "shots fired" in the 1300 block of West Morse. Someone called saying a person is down at Morse and Clark. Possibly from the "shots fired."

Good god -- they fire shots that early this morning already? They really need to get a hobby. Imagine what later will be like then.

The person down on Morse and Clark was classified as intoxicated.

Crime is down (so they tell me)

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter said...

Well, that's a bit of a relief. But still, what is wrong with those shooters?

I heard shots about that time. I was busy giving my pit bulls a bath.

ALSCB: I think "early in the morning" might be "really late in the evening" for that crew. (You probably realize this.)

I think the Red Line gets civilized around 5:30 A.M. Before that I see plenty of characters.

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter said...

Yeah, I know, Kevin. It's real early for me since I get up at 5:30 on school days (today being one).

Humor revolving around the death of a kid. You stay classy, CB.

When will these streets be sane!

Not to be off topic yet since tragedy is the theme here I just wanted everyone to be aware that Farrah Fawcett passed on this morning.

Nice Chip Bagg.

I'm sure the family of the 9 yo that was killed while doing that appreciate the comic relief.

Someone was killed from these shots fired you reported, Craig?

The 9 year old girl was killed in Englewood last night. Her dad and his friends were most likely the target. That's where this thread has gone. He doesn't want to tell the police anything.

Could be that he's scared of getting killed as well. He has to continue to live there and people who identify gangbangers in cases like have been known to become victims of retaliation. You'd like to think that he wouldn't hesitate to speak up since his daughter has been killed, but the guys that did the shooting were definitely targeting that house. There's other stuff going on here.

But yeah, I see where you're coming from.

Sorry, didn't see this. Yeah, this is what I figured. Just goes to show that there are areas inside this same city that are world's away.

Hey!
How do they expect us to hold a street corner candlelight vigil for Michael Jackson with all of this shooting happening around here?
Where's Ed McMahon when you really need his wisdom.

I watched the news report of her death on ABC7 news. It's heart breaking. It was real sad to watch the mother breaking down. I hope whoever committed this senseless killing is punished.

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter, you can't punish these Thugs. Going to prison is a paid vacation for them. They belong to the same gang inside prison as they do out on the streets. They still deal drugs, they still kill people and they still do not have to "WORK" for a living. It's like a Holiday to them. They get three meals a day, clean sheets and free TV. Most of the Thugs have it better inside than they do out here in the real world. "IT'S A VACATION" not a punishment.

RE the family of the murdered little girl not cooperating with the police-I agree with some posters here. Her family is probably stone terrified of the gang involved, and with good reason, and can't easily move away.

It was always the same thing with many Mafia murders. Why do you think it took so long to nail the killers of Danny Seifert? Do you think his relatives did not know who killed him?

Our ineffectual justice system allows too many killers and violent offenders to walk free so they can form murderous gangs, and terrorize and corrupt every locale they dominate.

AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter said...

Well, Sandy, where can we send them? If jail can't work for them, then what can? I'm so sick and tired of these punks killing kids (now little ones too!) over there bullshit. I don't wish death on them since they're human beings just like the rest of us even though they may not act it, but something seriously needs to be done about this.

I feel that the cops are really trying their best to rid our streets of these idiots, but it's not working. If they get arrested, they claim the police are being racist or abusive. It's always something.

Who the hell was stupid enough to put a free TV in jail?? Or clean sheets? Or maybe even 3 meals? If they committed a crime, they should sit in jail with NO TV, whatsoever. They need to sit there and THINK about who they hurt, who they killed, who they harassed. I remember when I was younger reading stories about jail. You were deeply punished. I read about prisoners crying, looking out their bars a long period of time, etc.

Also, if they have to go to jail, I think someone should send them off to different states or countries to serve their sentences so they're around their gang or drugs.

"Her family is probably stone terrified of the gang involved, and with good reason":

More than likely, the father was the target... a gangbanger. I hate to say that, but this is probably the reason why they are not talking.

Unfortunately, this is the price you can pay when involved in idiotic things like that!

If you ask me, they need to start executing these idiots. After a few, they might get the idea of real consequence! Unmoral, un-Christian, not fair... maybe, but I can tell you that it will wake these animals up!

Throwing these idiots into prison does nothing! It is a day camp for them and they usually end up coming out better criminals than they were when they went in. Our prisons are already maxed out, so something needs to be done!

The North Coast said...

Agree, Chicago.

The death penalty may or may not be an effective deterrent, but it is the only way to assure that a murderer will be removed from the streets forever. As long as a "life" sentence means 7 to 20 years, it's meaningless as a way to keep killers off the streets.

Featherweight sentences mean not only that killers will be at large within a few years and will be freed to kill again (and again and again), they also send a signal that we do not take murder seriously.

How many really vicious killers have we seen returned to the streets after serving maybe 20 years, just so they can progress to still more vile crimes. Richard Maust raped and killed a 14-year old in the 80s here in IL, and was freed after 20 years for this unspeakable crime. He then went to Indiana and murdered three more young boys. Why is anybody surprised. A man who killed his wife and then gunned down three men at my place of work three decades ago is out on the streets now, only 60 years old and still capable of doing great harm, and MO will let him carry a gun. How long will it take him to kill someone else.

We see this over and over and over, and we have become so desensitized to the unspeakable violence that the news of a shooting produces a yawn. Does anyone remember the maniac who walked into a west side factory a few years back and gunned down 6 people? It happens so often that it isn't even news.

Historians will look back on this period, the peak of modern tech and knowledge, and wonder how people so advanced could permit such savagery.

Well now we have bleeding heart liberals in charge of punishment and courts and jails... get used to the revolving scum door swinging fast and often. I'm all for automatic execution for anyone using a gun to commit a felony. Three strikes is bull... how many unsolved murders are out they people on 2 strikes or less? If the prison are full, start at the top with the lifers and end it. They're not going anywhere anyway.

I agree with above - jail is too good for the scumbags - I wish they could all have their own little island to control as they like and fight it out. And tell me, why do they have to be so damn loud when they talk to each other or on their cells? I'm going to get shot one of these days telling them to shut the hell up!

The North Coast said...

If there should be an automatic death penalty for someone using an automatic firearm, then the death penalty should be automatic for someone who stabs someone 40 times, say, or uses other forms of torture in the killing. Torture would include many things, notably sexual assault, as well as beating with a crowbar, and many other particularly grisly forms of murder.

It ought also apply to mass killings, and to the 2nd conviction for 1st degree.

The pro-criminal mentality infected our justice system in the 60s, and though the public rejected it decades ago, it was able to do deep and systemic damage to our laws and the application thereof.

The unevenness of punishment seems to be a big factor in the crime rates. The punishment we can apply across the board, impartially and consistently, might be more effective deterrent than the punishment that is severe but applied only occasionally. As it stands now, a murderer might get the death penalty, or maybe life with parole after 20 years, or 5 years, or walk free. There's no consistency.
