Let's see if you guys promote this as boring, or exciting, or anything else in between, but anywho...
7:38pm - Battery in progress. Pottawatomie Park. 7340 North Rogers. About 17 people fighting.
7:39pm - #2405Adam is doing a slow down. No fighting in the park.
7:40pm - Bunch of "non sense" occurring at 7525 North Ashland. Landlord VS tenant. It's a dispute.
7:41pm - #2404F is doing a traffic stop at Ashland and Arthur, if anybody wants to know. From the sound of things, they're runinng a name.
7:44pm - The park fight is being coded 19Boy. No fighting can be seen in the park.
7:49pm - If this is boring, please, tell me. I want to know how boring my post is and why it is boring. Thanks in advance. So, "good night" to all of you.

Thanks for covering this, Timmy. I've had my scanner off all day.
No problem, Craig. Unlike most others, you apprieacte what I do :-).
Thank you Timmy. I like knowing what's going on.
Boring? No. Unfortunately, it's not real informative either. What does it mean for a fight to be coded "19boy" for instance. Why is a traffic stop at the corner of Arthur and Ashland useful to know about? Why was the motorist pulled over?
Perhaps it isn't enough to transcribe scanner reports unless you're trying using them to make a point. For instance, if a fight breaks out at a specific location every day at about the same time for a week, then it may be considered newsworthy because it establishes a pattern. But that means monitoring the scanner and noting the reports on your own, then, once a pattern emerges, printing the dates and times and pointing out the pattern.
Anyway, that's my opinion. I hope it was useful. By the by, I like the fact that you are interested in journalism. Good luck.
- PEACE -
Fargo Woman, the fight was coded because nothing happened according to the officer on scene. He had been sitting there for the last couple of minutes within time of the call and nothing happened. The code is just a code, in my opinion. It means no police report will be done. Craig or Big Daddy would probably be able to explain it better than myself.
As for the person getting pulled over, we'll never know. They hardly ever say why over the radio a person is pulled over. If I knew, I would've told you why.
As for that fight, I thought fights at Pottawattonie were common. Being an everyday reader here, I have read quite often of fights over there.
Craig and I are different when it comes to noting crime. He tells you what's happening with major crimes and gives a detail explanation. Me, I just report everything I hear and make little explanations. I mean, sometimes there's just no explanation for some of these jobs that come out (for me, anyway). It's either too shocking or too unreal. For crimes like shots fired, person stab, stabbings, etc., I always do a follow-up on those.
I had also wanted to see you guys to see how active your local police radio is.
I guess I just carry my traits over here from my blog. I note everything over there because our crime rate is getting (if not already) out of control. Some residents in my neighborhood think it's getting worse than RP, believe it or not. I think so too.
Fargo Woman, I personally really do not agree with your opinion, but I respect it. It's your opinion.
Off-topic but important -- Craig, you should be covering this story about Northpoint trying to evict children from a Rogers Park house instead of pushing Timmy's whiny agenda:

"If this is boring, please, tell me."
Yes, it is boring...Fargo Woman summed it up pretty well. And your fit about being criticized is laughable. It was nice of Craig to let you post occasionally, but it's turning into a tired act. For the most part, people have been very nice and supportive of your effort, but it's difficult to take you seriously when you demand that we find your posts exciting.
You have the choice. You can accept negative reader feedback & use it improve your writing skills, or you can look like a fool with immature bitter responses.
Re:Pott Park.
Timmy, Fights do not happen here regularly. I'm not positive, but I don't think Pott has made the Broken Heart more than a couple of times in the past year, so charaterising it as a regular thing is a bit misleading.
A "fight", which normally is actually just a large group of teens being loud and obnoxious-as it was yesterday, also shouldn't be a surprise -in this neighborhood anyway- in the middle of Summer, in a park that has an at risk Basketball league in session.
Also, everyone should be aware that Pott Park has had an amazing Park District Security Officer for the past two years-including yesterday- who has done seriously amazing things to get this park under control.
Officer Lindburg is actually a 24th district duty officer working as Park District security as his "second" job. He knows the actual neighborhood kids from the outside trouble makers, and does great work keeping this Park in order. He is primarily stationed to keep the field house under control, but of course he does monitor the entire Park. When a group of 40 or so teens rampages through, as was the situation last night, he was alerted by calls to the field house directly, and from the 911 radio dispatch. He was outside in a flash.
One thing we all need to be careful of is over reacting to any and all 911 calls and besmirching an area, a Park, or a neighborhood to the detriment of all of us. Once one is sensitized to something, we tend to overreact to the same thing because we are so suspicious of the "here we go again" syndrome.
Think of a computer problem you have had in the past. Even after it was fixed we tend not to believe it is fixed, so if the PC hiccups we tend to think, Oh crap, it's still broken-here we go again.
My point is that even after a "problem" has been fixed or is less of a problem, we tend to fear the worst because we don't believe that the problem has been fixed.
Timmy, I like reading your posts. I think they are informative and really show the issues we have in the area.
Don't listen to Jerk Store. I think his blog name spells it out.
Can we get an off duty police officer for Willy White park? The dice games, drug dealings and out of control teens are ruining the park for everyone. Families don't want to go there and no responsible parent will allow their child to play there until the problems are removed.
Hi Timmy,
You used to little words.
Walden Pond by Henry David Thoreau - 1854 uses to many words but is a beautiful book.
C++ Programming Language, The (3rd Edition) by Bjarne Stroustrup
Is an amazing read also.
Who knew that a book on programming would be a best seller?

The main thing is to keep writing.
To Jerk Store:
Fargo Women didn't say it was boring. She didn't say it was really imformative either, though. I respect her opinion because she at least explained to me why she felt the way she did.
You can laugh at me all you want. It just shows you've got no respect, especially towards people with Autism like myself. But, that's ok. I cannot wait for the day all of us with this disablity show you what they can do. I will laughing at all of the haters. Hell, I'm already laughing. I'm showing you dipweeps (the haters)what I can do.
This is Craig's blog. He makes the choice whether I stay or not. If I can stay, fine. I can't stay, fine. I've got my own blog where I can make my message heard if I can't have it heard here. But, since that blog is about my neighborhood, I'd rather come here and my message about RP heard here than there.
I'm not really demanding anything. I just want you guys to read my posts and at least try to understand my point of view on things. Yes, I did get angered over everyone ranking my post as boring, but that's because ALL (if not, most) of you ranked it that way. I wouldn't have had no problem if 5 or less people did that way, or if you guys explained WHY you found it that way. Plus, my post was about a SERIOUS issue in the neighborhood, which is mostly why I was angered.
Like I said, I'm fine with constructive critcism about my writing. I want to make it better. I'm just sick of people telling me I'm boring or stupid when I'm trying to help YOU guys out. Remember, I go to school in Rogers Park, so what happens up there does involve me. Like I said before, I DO NOT want to be gunned down while going to the grocery store with my classmates on Morse, or any other RP streets for that matter.
From this tone of writing, I'm being nice. But, I will probably still look like a fool to you guys. At least I tried.
I think that whether this is boring or not is very much a matter of personal opinion. I, for one, find it interesting to hear crime just the way you deliver it - straight off the police scanners. I find it useful to see just how many calls come in over a period of time, and what types of crime are happening the most often.
An observation: Seems to me that the most vocal commentators on many blogs tend to be the most negative. I guess some people get their kicks from being nasty and stirring up s***.
I Live Here Too, I'm just going by what Craig and another website (more or less on that site) I read about RP say. I've read that there's fights at Pott "regulary" (I don't live up here, so how often is regulary?). I apologize if I mislead any of you. Excuse my rudeness (and I'm not being scarcastic here). I do agree with overreacting to the 911 calls, which is why I didn't add my own opinion to this.
Progun, I liked that type of writing as well. But, since this wasn't school, I didn't really know what else to say. I didn't want to add my opinion because I didn't want to look a bigger jerk than what I already am to all of you.
Moldy Orange, how exactly am I whining? I know, I know, yesterday I snapped in the comments section of another post, but I was pretty calm when I wrote this post.
By the way, Craig posts crime as well. If I'm "whining", so is he. But I'm not, so he isn't either.
You asked if it was boring, and I gave you an honest answer. I never mentioned/implied anything regarding Autism. I treated you like any other blogger, and somehow this is disrespectful toward those with Autism? If you are wanting to show us what you can do, don't hide behind the disability when people treat you like any other person. What I wrote had nothing to do with Autism. It would be like me stating that your response was disrespectful toward people with pale skin.
Timmy,
You know I like you, kid, but you gotta develop a thick skin if you're going to be a writer/reporter/journalist. You will NEVER get 100 percent approval for ANYTHING you write (as I'm sure Craig will tell you), so you gotta expect the "haters". it comes with the territory (that territory being writing for the public). Like I said I used to write for a few newspapers. Trust me, I got my share of negative letters, and even moreso when we finally moved into the email era. (In fact I still get negative emails for the stuff I write for a couple of other websites now.) People tend to be more responsive and more quick to call you an idiot when they have access to email or message boards (not so when they have to actually sit down and write or type a letter. Having to use White-Out on your angry rants tends to take some of the fun out of it.)
But anyway, Timmy, ignore the complaints, even ignore the name-calling. You have a job to do and that's report what you see, how you see it. If people can't see you're just starting out and learning the ropes, well, that's their problems. Responding back with the same kind of stuff is pointless and a fight no one will win. Just write your stuff and laugh at the negative email. I learned to do that. Wasting time responding is, well, wasting time.
Well, Jerk Store, for a while I felt like this is was because I'm Autisic. So, if you see me "whining" (altough I feel I wasn't whining. I was mad. I admit, it did look a little stupid) or if I have bad grammar, it's because of my disablity. I also guess I felt a bit mad because of the negative response I got. It's not that I WANT to act that way, it just happens I guess. But, I will try my very best to prevent outbursts like I had yesterday from happening again.
Man On The Street, thanks for your comment. I usually do have a thick skin about this, though I don't know what happened yesterday. I guess it came crashing down. For some odd reason, I was instantly reminded all of the hell I went through at my last school before Sullivan and I got upset. This usually doesn't happen to me. I'm aware that people won't like everything you report. I saw it in most of my reports of Sullivan. I even laughed at just about all of the negative responses. I just felt that billyjoe crossed the line yesterday. I'm definately going to try way better to ingore the complaints and name calling. It'll be hard, but I'll have to do it. So, if I am cranky at times (this goes to everyone, LOL), don't take it personally :-]. To be honest, I don't think there's really an excuse for the way I acted yesterday. Once again, MOTS, thanks. Your words mean alot to me. I'm going to be thinking about them for some time now.
