This is not good. I have a friend from my class who lives on that block, and another one who lives in the 7700 block of N. Paulina, so I'm a bit alarmed by this. I hope they're ok, especially the one who lives on Jonquil.
You're right, Timmy. This is not good. We've got another person shot in the leg.
I don't know how this keeps happening? Guns are banned in Chicago.
Like I told Grammar Girl a few days back, they cross over into Indiana or some other state and get them. Something's got to be done about it.
When I head to Sullivan this morning, I'll try to get some more information from this shooting. I'm pretty sure there was a witness or two to it.
The police should have no trouble rounding up this gun-toter, Timmy. See they've got this new technology called the police camera.
In fact, within mere feet of where this occurred, there's two police cameras.
One in the 1600 block of Jonquil, and one in the 1600 block of Howard.
All the police have to do is view the tapes at the time of the shooting, look for a male/black, wearing a white do-rag and white tee-shirt.
I bet he's holding a silver handgun too.
I'm sure the CAPS co-facilitator and neighborhood activist who run the blogs north of Howard will cover this shooting too, Timmy.
Maybe the mayor will come walk around the Jonquil area and make all the neighbors feel better?
With that unique of a description they should find this guy quickly.
Wait I think I see him....
Timmiy how do you think Thoreau would have described this guy?
I was going to say - sounds like a standard gang banger description!
If these guys were better shots, they would eventually kill each other off. Unfortunately, they are too lazy to learn the English language, too lazy to pull up their pants, too lazy wash their doo-rags, and certainly too lazy to take shooting lessons. They have created a lawless and criminal society alongside which we have to live. It is NOT the guns, people.
I'm with Chipp Bag and Pro Gun.
Pro Gun, did you get the note I left on your front door way back on May, 29th?
Are you sure that the tapes work, Craig? They only get 8 hours worth of tape.
I would hope they cover this. This is serious. Certainly more important that Joe Moore. And if the Mayor walks around there, would it really help?
Progun, who is Thoreau?
Timmiy how do you think Thoreau would have described this guy?
You stay classy, proGun
Progun, who is Thoreau?
Timmy, he's just trying to yank your chain...because apparently he's tired of yanking his own.
Timmy In 1854, when Henry David Thoreau retreated to a cabin at Walden Pond, he began a lifelong process of personal education about the natural world and wrote On Walden Pond.

No I did not get a note, my wife mentioned it but only in passing.
Hopefully all good news. How is my brother Steve doing? Back to work yet?
What did you think of the sidewalk?
Craig, I don't know if this is useful or not, but one of the assistants in my class told me this morning that she saw a squad car blocking the alley between Marshfield and Ashland on Jonquil as her and their bus driver picked up the Jonquil student. This was around 6:40.
Thanks for the history lesson, ProGun. I still don't know who that person is, though. I wasn't born 'til the early 1990s.
MOTS, yeah, I think so too. But whatever. It didn't go past me.
Timmy, you should look him up. Thoreau was an important literary figure who had more ideas than just those he jotted down while at Walden Pond.
Don't forget proGun that HDT was also an anarchist. Although I doubt he was an advocate for gun-toting gang bangers...
Hi Timmy,
“On Walden Pond” is a book that is famous for many reasons.
Google it if so inclined.
I liked Henry David because he often correctly challenged authority.
He was a free thinker that kept a journal that is being referenced by scientist today. These scientist are comparing the environmental and social changes in the places he lived.
When I was in high school it was required reading. We had between 15 -20 books each summer that we read and did reports in our first quarter.
No not yanking your chain, suggesting some reading material to enhance your writing ability or provide you with additional perspectives.
If you keep writing then I will keep commenting.
BTW what are some of the books that you enjoy reading?
A book club breaking out in "man shot on Jonquil" is unexpected. Yet...it would be interesting to know what Timmy is reading. Please advise.
Well, to be honest, I'm not much of a book reader. Things I mostly read are online, like blogs and news articles. Altough, over the last couple of years at school, I've read some great stories. Don't remember the names of the books off the top of my head (I've got bad memory).
I'll look up Thoreau perhaps a little later or tomorrow morning.
Anyhow, I thought this post was about a shooting on Jonquil. Isn't that what we should be talking about here? I'm not trying to avoid anyone's questions they have for me, but the real reason for this post was about a man shot on Jonquil this morning.
Craig, have you found out anything else regarding this shooting?
Nothing more on the shooting. Par for the course.
An officer from the 24th called this afternoon to give me an update on the July 16 shooting. A male, in his 20’s, was confronted in the early morning hours by three other males in their 20’s. They approached him and asked where he was from. Allegedly he replied that he wasn’t from around here. Somewhere in the conversation, a weapon appeared and they demanded his ring. He gave it up and the one holding the weapon put it to his head. A scuffle ensued and he grabbed the weapon but the two pals of the gun toter began physically attacking him, the gun discharged and a bullet struck him in the calf.
There were calls from the Jonquil Hotel and elsewhere on Jonquil. This began as a robbery and developed into the shots fired that people reported hearing on their scanners. Techs did come back to the scene after information was relayed from the hospital back to the 24th. Apparently I was the only person who called to find out what exactly happened.
