Jogger Shot on Sheridan Road

Police were looking for the person who shot a jogger in the 7000-block of North Sheridan in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Two men approached the jogger and pointed a gun at him. The jogger pushed the gun away but was hit in the shoulder. Police say the two men did not get anything valuable from the jogger. He is in stable condition. Source/Read more.

Where do all of these idiot scumbags come from? It's look some of the people over at the park - when the weather is nice, it's like they come out of hiding. (btw - I do wish the police would clear out the people at the park that seem to think it's a campground. I get sick of seeing them lying around when I am over there with the dogs in the morning)

The squeaky wheel gets greased. If the neighbors are going to sit idly by and do nothing, the situation will remain the same.

A Rogers Park jogger who couldn't hear what his assailants wanted because he was listening to loud music through earphones was shot when he ultimately pushed their gun aside and tried to run away, police said.

The 30-year-old man was reported in stable condition at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston following the attack, said Rogers Park Police District Capt. Thomas Libert.

The shooting happened in an alley in the 7000 block of North Sheridan Road after the man was approached by two men just after 10 p.m., Libert said. Source/read more.

They aren't sitting idly by, they're doing something about the situation.

They're moving the hell out of here. You go out for a jog and get shot and very little is said or done about it from the powers that be. I can't blame them if they pack it in and move elsewhere. Not anymore. I hear what you're saying about the "squeaky wheel", but does an alderman really need a "squeaky wheel" to spur him or her in to action when one of their constituents is shot and it makes the papers? If so, what's the point?

They come from HERE! They are the
Joe-Moron-David-Faget voters. And yes, they are allowed to camp out in the park. So what if it is illegal. So is letting your fucking dog run loose in that park. And you don't care about obeying THAT law. No. You whine about the crime and then commit minor "crimes" yourself. You stupid democrats make me want to puke.
Now I don't blame the jogger for getting himself shot. He must be new to the hood. But you cannot jog and ipod at the same time. And you cannot run in a straight line. You must run in a "serpentine" pattern to avoid the flying ammo.
Now if only these shufflin' bags of shit would mug the Rogers Park Garden Group ladies...then at least they would be doing the neighborhood some good.
My God I hate you stupid morons.

Why do people jog late in the evening? People should be able to be out at any time of day without being assaulted, but come on. And with a Walkman/iPod/MP3 player blasting?

The North Coast said...

Chip Bagg, of all the people to hate on and scapegoat, why on Earth are you choosing the Rogers Park Garden Group ladies?

The women and men of that group are mostly RP homeowners who are actively trying to make the neighborhood better.

As it is, the neighborhood lefties and bleeding heart libs just LOVE to twang on the Garden Group, for some strange reason.

Why? Because they are mostly upstanding, home-owning middle class citizens who beautify the neighborhood?

They are certainly not the people who are enabling and encouraging the thug element around here.

Craig, do you think it's safe enough for me to come back to Sullivan in September? Because honestly, I'm getting kind of scared to return to school. Though, I don't think I have too much to worry about because since I have more classes this upcoming school year, I'm not going out on all the field trips and community instruction-based stuff. Because with all of this crime in RP, it's getting me a bit worried.

You answered your own question. People SHOULD be able to jog anytime of day or night in any manner they want. Start putting limitations on when and how people are allowed to job and you're caving in to the thugs. Sorry, not gonna do that. NOTHING about this was the joggers fault and he did NOTHING wrong. Would it make more SENSE to jog earlier and minus the earphones? Maybe. But I'm sure you do some things that other may not thinks is wise or the best way to do it. How about instead of hiding in our homes after 9 p.m. we get the city, the alderman and the top cops to start doing their jobs?

From the way the description of this incident reads the jogger is a courageous individual with strong personal integrity.

Sometimes people may jog at night due to scheduling or,as I did along the Rogers Park lake front during the 1995 summer heat wave,to avoid extreme summer temperatures.

How refreshing to plunge into the lake after a run,
avoiding the daytime level of congestion by engaging in this activity after dark and it's quite the subdued visual experience!

It doesn't matter when the jogging fever occurs the prescription has to be:Run,run and more run.

Really?

==="He crossed in front of my path," the 30-year-old victim explained. "I got annoyed. I was like, first of all, you know, you are getting in my way. And he pulled out a gun and puts a rag over his mouth at the same time. So I stopped right there. And I said, alright, you have my attention."=== Souce/Read more.

Every other Alderman on the North Side has addressed residents at a public forum regarding these recent muggings, except one.

The answer. Joe Moore.

Uhm,okay-how about a solid sense of oneself?

A sense of oneself fueled by pumping adrenal glands and testosterone.

I regard that the jogger's initial response towards the night time strangers to be appropriate.
In most situations do not pause since this gives a perpetrator an advantage in opportunity.

Be firm yet not overtly aggressive
or rude.

Quickly calculate an escape route or avenue for help if possible.

The jogger may be re-thinking his exercising schedule for the present.

The present, however,is just after the incident which time will allow for a shift in perspective.

Fear, anger, remorse, self doubt, resolve and enlightened determination are consectutive emotions and attitudes that occur with people who have been victimized.
That's how I processed the experience after I was mugged.

If crime is an inevitable reality then how about a better class of professional?

Not individuals who are driven by synthetic appetites or the dismal state of infrastructure exacerbated by national economic woe.

Instead a type that engages in high-end,non-lethal,victimless financial undertakings which don't involve 99% of the average population.

Any word from James Brown.

Was he innocent?

proGun said...

Oh yeah, go jogging any time. I do.

Just curious, if the jogger took the gun away and killed his assilants would he have committed a crime?

On another note, I just heard on 'BEZ that they are in the process of putting a branch of their studio up in Rogers Park (to go along with the one in Humbolt Park and Navy Pier).

Everytime I hear about a serious gang problem in Crook County, I start feeling sorry for the smokers again. The only thing our elected officials can do is beat up the smokers. They can't do anything about the polluted air that we breath or the polluted waters that we swim in or the high taxes that we pay or the out of control gangs that terrorize the neighborhoods so they keep plugging away at the smokers so it looks like they are doing something for their fat pay checks. Why don't they stop beating up the smokers and STOP selling the dam things and do something about other things that are killing people? I'm sick of hearing about who smoked a cigatette on the Lake Front or which schools are still selling Pepsi to our children, when children are getting gun down in the streets of Chicago every day. Lets talk about that....

Boxing Tomboy - due to work commitments (or the fact the temperature is cooler in the evening) sometimes that is the only time you can get outside. I used to run outside quite often in the summer in the evening...though leaving the door after 9 pm was always my cut off point. Though I never cut through alleys or wore an iPod when running in the evening. I stuck to Sheridan and Farwell where there tended to be more people out and about. Since I've started training for the marathon I've been doing more of my runs on the treadmills at work but I think now I'll for sure reconsider running in the evenings.

1. hey chip-how do you know that the people who have their dog off a leash, who 'make you want to puke', are democrats? have you asked any of them about their particular voter registration? or are you just a paranoid, stereotyping yahoo who thinks that 'obama death panels' are an actual part of the health-care bill?
2. while we should be free to go anywhere in our city or neighborhood without fear, jogging down a dark alley is just not very smart.
3. confronting someone in said dark alley who 'steps in your path' is even dumber.

Would there be an opportunity for people to show up at the sentencing part to express our views?

My view in particular, that JB shot a nine year old because....

Not really feeling leinit on this one.

Basically was it pleaded out or will there be a sentencing?

Anyone...

Aw, c'mon Big Daddy, you can't leave us hanging like that. After all the discussion here, we need details. Did some new evidence come out that disputed what his family knew or told us? Or was there already enough evidence? C'mon, a little hint?...

Big Daddy said...

Because of the multiple victims and the uniqueness of the case, it was sent to the Grand Jury. The actual trial will be later. I say it was not a good day because the alternative was the judge ruling that there was no probable cause for the arrest.

Gotcha, BD. Thanks for clearing that up.

You people are idiots.

To "North Coast":

What a cry baby you are. The Rogers Park Garden Group is a sad collection of fat alcoholic white women who secretly smear peanut butter on their genitals and have their off-leash dogs lick it off. This is why they so savagely defend their stupid dogs and their right to shit anywhere. Actually this is true for all R.P dog owners, both male and female. I just hate the smug puffy pink RPGG "ladies" because they are useless and in a better world, they would be eaten by predators.

To "Lansky":
You are a stupid fool. Did you attend the 49th Ward Democrat presentation on Health Care at the Loyola fieldhouse on Monday night (August10)? The attendees were DEMOCRATS and I recognized many of them as dogshit carrying neighbors who regularly defend their right to ignore the city law prohibiting their off-leash behavior. And by the way, when the marxist speakers talked about cutting funding for old and dying people, there as loud applause from the death-panel advocates in the room.
I saw the video of the little jogger who was shot. I say "you go girl!" Too bad you didn't have a baseball bat to bash in the shufflin' bag of shit's face.

Craig, you doubled up the Betsy incident. Also, there 'may' be a few articles related to the same incidents.

Now, the good news. Most survived the incidents. What can be learned from the incidents? What can be done to improve the well being of those in the community? What has been done by volunteers to do so? Well, maybe that is more important, but news is news; Articles that encourage attention and fear often get the most attention.

Maybe that is the challenge.

Hi all - I just moved to RP this past June, and have been following this blog and several other RP-specific blogs since the move. While I haven't experienced directly any criminal activities, I am informed (in large part by these blogs) about the criminal blights of the neighborhood, and as a consequence have tried several times to engage the alderman concerning the crimes in this area - all to no avail.

Is it possible to perhaps link up with the victims of recent RP crimes (robberies, for example), get some concerned residents involved, and march through RP, leading to Moore's office and demand his attention to our VALID concerns about public safety?

I was thinking with the spike in criminal offenses, mainly strong arm robbery, he'd have plastered this area with memos on an upcoming town-hall meeting, but recently, all saw was ads for a picnic...let me know what you all think about this.

I'm assuming many of you are long-time residents; has something like a march (which hopefully would gain media attention, like the Morse theatre being torn down did: re: Rogers Park blog) been done before? Also, is there a RP neighborhood newspaper? Again, I'm totally fresh to the area...let me know!
