Belmont Area Deputy Police Chief Bruce Rottner said robberies in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the Far North Side have increased slightly this summer to 121 incidents, compared with 113 for the same period last year. Most have been
strong-arm.

The alderman will blame this on the economy. But these thugs have never worked an honest day in their lives.
When people blame it on the economy, they make the thug the victim.
I totally agree, Julia! I am sick of people's excuses for why they do criminal acts.
My dear fellow Rogers Parkers:
What a glorious weekend and what a magnificent street fest we had. My four dogs and I visited both days and chatted with friends and neighbors. Thank you Joe Moore and the whole 49th Ward Democrat party.
The feeling in the air was of warmth and friendship....not one of criminal activity. From what I am able to discern at the CAPS meetings, crime is indeed down. We were warned by the police a few months ago, however, that the failing economy (Thanks Mr. Bush) would lead to some additional crime as the less fortunate among us seek to make ends meet.
.
someone attempted to rob my mom a week ago at the dominicks at howard and clark,
and he (one brother) gave her a good hit, just one,
enough for a minor black eye
but he didnt get her purse, the dominicks said that they didnt have the money to put cameras on the parking lot where it happened, well my mom and sister wont ever go back to that dominicks, they are more concerned with protecting there produce than their patrons.
I was foolish enough to walk on sheridan alone after walking a friend home at 3am and got mugged,
and beaten by 3 or 4 bad brothers, one from belize (thanks for coming all the way to america to beat my ass),
two black eyes and took a week off work, yep just strong arm robbery,
well thats not happening to me again (not walking around alone late at night, which is really really stupid), my beatdown occured at pratt by the lakefront.
should be called black eye/you got your ass beat and they take your money, not just oh hey I really want your money and am holding you with strong arm,
strong arm robbery doesnt sound
like an ass beating but it is.
the thing about the guy trying to steal from my mom is that
it was 430 in the afternoon
in the dominicks parking lot,
thats not good folks
I'm hearing on the street that a beat down mugging was taking place at the lakefront on sherwin Sunday night and the cops caught 2 perps. I don't see any thing on this site or the news site. Is this just a rumor?
Lot's of beat-downs go unreported. I can only cover so much.
Sorry to hear you and your mom got your ass kicked, Jeff-O. Did you email the Alderman?
"We were warned by the police a few months ago, however, that the failing economy (Thanks Mr. Bush) would lead to some additional crime as the less fortunate among us seek to make ends meet."
Rachael: I dont consider folks committing strong arm robberies to be among the "less fortunate among us."
And what's with owning four (!) dogs? You could limit yourself to two and give the extra money you'd spend on their care and feeding to the "less fortunate."
Just a thought.
Craig, would you like me to mointor the radio for you for a little while later today?
Oh, and jeffo, sorry to hear about what happened to you. I hope you'll be able to recover fine.
i forgot to mention my
mugging occured in the spring this year
and im ok now, thanks for your concern one and all.
i think it knocked some sense into me. some street sense that is.
i still get a bit angry/paranoid about walking around.
my black eyes took a long time to go away, and had to wear sunglasses for awhile, but im okay,
no doctor bill, no concussion, no stitches, i count myself lucky.
Dear Mr.or Ms. Fogel:
I do believe I have the right to own as many dogs as I please. They have feelings too and must be given a good home with love and affection. My friends and I often take all of our dogs to the beach to romp free in the huge sandy fenced in dog exercise park on the beach at Farwell on the north side of the pier. They love to dash among the plants and splash in the water while we watch from the artists' wall.
As for giving to the less fortunate. We sometimes make small breakfasts or lunches and distribute them to the homeless living in the park at the end of Morse. I think we need to help these people out too. And I do believe that no one would commit the crime of stealing from another unless they absolutely had too. This will all improve, of course, the longer our dear President Barack Obama is in office.
Hold on a sec, jeffo. This happened in the spring? How? You said this morning it happened last week but now it happened in the spring? And you're just now reporting it to us?
Hey, everybody, looks as though we have another bleeding-heart 60s-type leftist around here.
I'm glad Rachel Slur take food to the poorest people in the nabe and I wish I could afford to do that, too. I give what I can to food banks, and so do most people around here.
But it's one thing to sympathize with those who are truly down-and-out, most of whom are NOT criminals, and sympathize with criminals.
"I do believe that no one would commit the crime of stealing from another unless they absolutely had to", says Rachel.
REALLY, Rachel? PLEEEEEASE! The population of this country has been and is continuing to be ruthlessly plundered by the top financial players in world, via the agency of Reagan, Bush, Bush 2, and now Obama, and are continuing to live in their $40 M mansions on the taxpayers back. Do these thieves "need" to steal to put food in their mouths? Is the care and feeding of a $300K Mercedes coupe a bonafide need? NO? Then why is some little thug entitled to open up my scull to buy an Ipod or a pair of Nikes?
The street thugs around these parts are less "fortunate", to be sure, but they have been the beneficiaries of hundreds of welfare, school, and community outreach programs. If they are under the age of 18, their support is guaranteed by the state. Yeah, they're poor, but so are millions of other people in this country who never lift a finger to steal.
Bad morals run top to bottom in this country. We have turned into Gangsta Nation, and the fact that our so-called "elite" is leading the rampage of criminality is no excuse for the low life scum of this area, who oftentimes jump defenseless lone people just to "goon" them- in other words, just for fun- and the choice victim seems to be a lone older man.
Please don't make excuses for these scum. I have been poor a couple of times in my life, and I have many friends who are suffering unemployment and whose benefits have run dry, who are dependent upon friends who don't have much more and are one paycheck away from destitution themselves. Somehow we all get through without stealing, mugging, and shooting each other and other citizens.
We need to restore some morals in this country. NO one can justify stealing from another. You can legitimately beg, or crawl, or ask, for food or money, which is why I don't get all bent about panhandlers, if they take "no" for an answer.
But when you use force, you've crossed into different territory, and just because we've let our society be set up in such a way as to enable certain privileged folks to plunder us at will, legally and with few obstructions, doesn't make it right. What it make US is a country of thugs.
We've got a real loony in Rachael. Sorry everyone, I'm going to keep a better eye on this nut cases comments in the future.
Carry on.
well
my mom was accosted this past week
i did report it to the police
the crime that happened with the descriptions of the thugs,
sorry i didnt tell you guys sooner.
I really shouldve
I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, jeffo, and hope she doesn't have any lingering injuries because of that assault.
Joe likes to brag about how he brought the Dominick's to Clark & Howard- the one I have shopped in twice in the past 4 years.
I advise you all to go to the one on Broadway in Edgewater, even if it further away.
craig please, please don't delete any of rachel slur's posts.
They have even an old hippie liberal like me rolling on the floor laughing hysterically. If she's for real she's priceless.
Actually, Rachel sounds like a dear, sweet,good-hearted person who really wants to believe the best about everyone.
Rachel just needs to get a few clues.
If she's for real, she's living in a very sheltered environment, for a fact.
I shop the Dominicks at Howard pretty regularly after work. Nice people work there. Only problems I've ever had are the people in front of me that don't even think about how they're going to pay for the food the clerk just rang up. They forgot their wallet/atm card or thought they could use a 3rd party out of town check with no ID to pay. Takes 10 to 15 minutes to sort it all out while the rest of us wait while the clerk has to void out everything after explaining why that check can't be accepted.
I am sorry to hear about the problems Jeff. Rachael Slur, I love the blog name, the economy is a great excuse. These people are criminals and C.A.P.S. is a joke, a lot of window dressing. Why do regular citizens have to put themselves in harms way by reporting crimes in an open forum. Police should do their own jobs. Call 911.
Hey, everybody, looks as though we have another bleeding-heart 60s-type leftist around here.
Don't take it seriously. Rachel Slur is a lame attempt at "satire". It's the (4th? 5th? 6th?) screen name of a regular on these boards.
My dearest fellow Rogers Parkers:
I was merely trying to point out the humanity of those less fortunate than me. When you see Diamond, (a known local prostitute) helping a mentally challenged friend dry his sleeping blanket and shirt at the laundromat after a heavy rain, it must touch your heart if you are human. I am truly sorry if I have offended Mr. Gernhardt or any of you.
Dear Mr. North Coast:
I do not understand how you can say that our new President Barack Obama is the same as Mr. Reagan, Mr. George Bush Sr. and Mr. George Bush Jr. I thought our new President is being accused of being on the far far left and the other men you mentioned were on right.
I am at a total loss as to how you
reached this conclusion. I am very very sorry if I have offended you by my comments.
Dominick's reopened over on Ridge and Pratt-ish (I forget the cross street, but it's behind that JJ Pepper). It's a nice store, and I like the location better.
Rachael is a troll...it's called satire folks.
I attended the 13th Aug. grand re-opening. Alderman, Bernard Stone and Illinois Senator, Ira Silverstein were present for the event. John Katsantones, former manager at the 6009 N. Broadway Dominick's, now manages the newly -rebuilt West Ridge location. I have visited the store numerous times since it re-opened and it has been jammin' with customers!
