Sullivan Loses Season Opener

The 2009 Sullivan High School football squad is off to another dismal start.
It took Notre Dame just four plays to score 21 points in the first quarter, and the Dons went on to beat Sullivan 43-6 on Saturday. Source/Read more.
Can the highly touted seniors, Johnathon Gaines, Jamal Lawson, Tyler Moore, Volta Perkins and Jamal Smothers, who lead the squad, regroup and come back after such a lopsided loss?

Next Game: September 4th, vs Loyola.

Sorry to hear about their loss. I was hoping they'd win. Oh well. There's always more games.

That Burgos guy has a fact wrong: The Sullivan team doesn't have "some" kids coming back from last year. In fact, most of the kids on the team last year are on it again this year.

Of course Sullivan isn't a bad team. I think they're good (especially after having spent time watching them a couple of times practicing for the games). They just need to work a little more harder, and the couple of kids who weren't showing up to the games need to.

I have confidence the team should be able to regroup and come back after that loss.

By the way, Craig, a slight correction. Gaines' name is spelled Johnathan (looking at it from the yearbook).

Craig,
We to the Hopleaf on Clark last night. One table had 8 of Chicago's finest eating for over an hour, 6:30 to around 8:00 PM. Then two more came in about a half hour later, sat for over an hour at another table. 10 local police sitting in a reaturant for over an hour. All to watch the Bears game. WTF! C.A.P.S. Did anyone else see this? The cops in 24 really suck. All of them.

Any idea if those officers were on duty or just getting off of a shift?

Come on. Those men and women work under ridiculous conditions to keep the rest of us safe.

Let's cut them some slack.

This has the list of all games in the near future. I'm thinking about attending the Kelyvn Park game since it's close to my home.

RP4Life: If youre so upset, why didnt you go up to their table and ask those cops why they werent out patrolling?

Instead, we're treated to your little passive-aggressive rant on Broken Heart.

You wuss

Timmy, if you want to give sports reporting a whirl, feel free to try.

I will when school starts again. I want to talk to the team personally to get a feel of what's going on. I'm also going to try to attend the Kelyvn Park game so I can report on that.

About that list: It only says "VS" Kelyvn Park. I'm not sure if it's there. I'll find out for anyone interested tomorrow or when school starts next Tuesday.

My fellow neighbor Rogers Parkers,
Let's all get behind the Sullivan team and cheer them on to victory.
Rah. Rah. Rah.
I am very sure it would raise the spirits of the young men on the team if they knew the whole neighborhood was rooting for them.
What joy if they should see all of us in the stands cheering for their victory and success.
Mr/Ms RP4Life,
Shame, shame, shame on you for criticizing the wonderful police here in Rogers Park. Do you attend CAPS and meet any of them?
They have a difficult and relentless job and I am sure they were on their own time if they were watching television in a local eating establishment. Again, shame on you.
Thank you.

Wait...an even better questions than one about why the cops were in Hopleaf watching the Bears...

they have a television again at Hopleaf? I thought they took it out years ago.

I am treating you to the knowledge that the CPD in the 24th district are a joke. Always have been, always will be. Go out and do their job for them. I am from a police family and know all about the CPD. System wide, this is a known fact. Check it out.

Yeah I've been to Hopleaf several times in the past year and I don't recall a television being there.
