It's about time! These idiots need to learn consequence!

My very dear Rogers Park neighbors,
The Chicago Public School system has been granted 30 million dollars this year to spend on those unfortunate youths who are endangered of being shot by other disadvantaged children. The government should give even more money for this purpose. If these poor urban children who are mostly of color had more advantages, they would not be getting into these fights after school. They are frustrated that the rich get richer and have all the advantages of this society while they are left behind. I am so happy that the government has seen fit to give this extra money to them. Perhaps when they start to receive it, this violence born out of poverty will stop. Respectfully yours.

I wonder where'd this information about the gang fight came from. It seems important. I'm thinking it was one of the better students in the school who may have overheard something and went to police, or it was school administration who overheard something.

But this is good that they're being arrested for this stuff. It's about time. And it's good that the police were aware of this gang fight.

By the way, the only "mayhem" I observed what was I believe to be an argument between a group of guys during lunch. Didn't catch any words, though.

Rachael, please explain to me what other advantages these 'unfortunate youth' as you call them need?

They have access to free education, they get a free breakfast and free lunch at school if they need it. Some of them live in households that are rent subsidized, with a parent that collects welfare and or food stamps. Some of their households get reduced rates or free electricity and gas service.

There are free picnics every year to get them ready to go back to school. They are given clothing, school supplies, backpacks, medical checkups, vaccinations, etc., all free of charge.

Their only job is to go to school, study hard, graduate and contribute to society.

I think they have it pretty damn good. Ask for it and you get it handed to you with no questions asked because you are one of the 'poor unfortunate youth.'

No one holds them back from advancing but themselves.

Would you clarify the meaning of "minor break-out".

Is this phrase applied in reference to a youth violence incident

OR

a small number of individuals contained in a concise area for a brief period of time

OR

both?

Well put. Give them the tools they need to learn and succeed. If they do not realize that they are being given this opportunity and still incite violence, they need to learn the consequences of their actions. These gangbanger wanna-bes need to be taken out of the equation so that those who want to learn and succeed can do so without threst to life and limb.

"If these poor urban children who are mostly of color had more advantages, they would not be getting into these fights after school."

Rachael Slur: By virtue of your mneomonic, you are a 'person of color', AS ARE WE ALL.

If I, as an artist, know the color black to be an 'absence of color', am I wrong in regard to today's perception of the color black?

On the other hand, I was taught almost a half-century ago (YES, 50 YEARS!)that 'white is a combination of all colors'.

Once a human being knows WHO they are, and WHAT they must do to survive, they will live far above and beyond the race-baiting politicians out there.

If you don't agree, dear, that is your prerogative, that is your FREEDOM, as an American citizen, if in fact you possess that right.

In my opinion, you are either a 'plant', or a total dolt, or are exhibiting total sarcasm. You did not start out this way, as I recall. I hesitate to concur with anyone that you even LIVE in Rogers Park.

RP Free Speech said...

Bosworth 6:44 PM, I absolutely agree with your take.

Do you and I get a free breakfast (as unnutritional as it may be) or a free lunch, becuase of our skin color? Or because of our gang-affiliation?

Yes, here in Chicago, the rich get richer, because of Mayor Dick'em Daley, and people like Oprah, distracting from the 'first day of scholl'. I can't wait to see the real numbers of attendance at CPS--now Daley will be crying for more money, and the Chicago Public Schools will suffer greatly. Also affecteing the first day of scholl was the Obama speech--you'd have thought this guy would have had more sense? But....he did; another distraction.

I urge you to check out this blog, hosted by a Retired Chicago Fireman, Jim McMahon. See waht HE says, if you don't want to believe me.

Especially watch, "Red and the Pledge".

Don't worry, South of Pratt: the Living Water people will show up at the 2432 & 2431 beat meetings & report back to the gangs what was said about them & how the cops will act against them.

and now they sound further north on wayne.

alot of angry, scary guys.
and im just trying to get some sleep

signed jeffo

i knew we were overdue for some bad crap
i was happy that the summer was so unusually mild, the now nice weather is allowing the gangs to make up for lost time
and maybe they have new recruits from the highschool?

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

wow they sound angry
alot of angry chanting coming from the north.

god i hate i warm nights.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

more loud people now hanging out in front of 6832 n wayne,
girls and guys right now,
called cops once,
im sure it will take awhile for them to come

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

6 calls to 911 now
and the gangbangers are still in the area.

whats going on?

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

they are still in the area,
called again
they are at farwell and glenwood now and wayne and farwell

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

Finally the police
use the bullhorn
"Find a place to go!"
thanks men in blue.

the response was slow, but im sure other shit was going down,
but loitering and talking loudly at night should not be tolerated.

since i cant move, they need to move or go home or sleep or something.

i think it was about 8 call over 50 minutes to 911
but finally some type of authority was broadcasted in an otherwise lawless zone.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

the cops did circle round once before about 20 minutes before the crowd halfheartedly dispersed,
and then they reformed like an amoeba or borg collective.

well there are nothing if not persistent and super annoying,

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

i tip my hat to the police they even circled round again after the bullhorn.

i just wish they would patrol this area on warm nights.
because its like clockwork that some gangbangers will be here.

its not a mystery
wayne and farwell is the hot corner

the nice off the spot morse hangoutzone.

Chicago says it's time those idiots learn the consequence of their anti-social behavior. But that's the problem. There are no consequences for these kids acting like morons, especially if they are under 17 years old. I attended one of the several mini riots at one of our local high schools yesterday. Mini riots that occur everyday at almost every high school in Chicago. I was talking with one of the guys after we had cleared out the area about our having to lock these kids up so that we would set the tone and send the message that we are not going to tolerate their nonsense. One of the officers then chimed in asking me for what. Nothing is going to happen to them. And he was right. If we lock them up, the youth Officer will be called in. The parents will refuse to come into the station and then WE are stuck with them. Now what? What do we do with them?
Ladies and gentlemen, there are absolutely no repercussions when these kids act like goofs. None. Locking them up will not stop it. The parents don't care. The kids don't care. The schools don't seem to care. The only people that seem to care are the residents that live in the area where all this happens. But the "system" doesn't care about them, about you. So what's the solution? We do what we can. We clear them out. But unless they are adults, we are urinating in the wind. I wish I had a better answer. But I don't. Keep in mind that my comments apply to minors, minors who are the biggest problem. Adults, hell we can and should lock them up in a heartbeat for this type of behavior. Like the 13 I locked up the other day. All 17 years old and acting the fool. But making life miserable for those that live nearby. But what would the result have been had they all been 16 years old?

Razldazlrr said...

Hey Rachael - how about if these people stop having kids they can't support emotionally or with $$?
Big Daddy - thanks for doing what you can, it has to be unbelievable frustrating to deal with those punks and their obnoxious mouths!

Hopefully this was the result of someone noticing something was about to go down and called the 911 or texted them, which is something EVERYONE should do. It makes the cops proactive instead of reactive and the benefits are many. I recall the time a bunch of "kids" were hanging out on the bus stop outside my GF's window and I wanted to call the cops to get them out of there and she said they were just kids. A few minutes later, shots rang out and everyone scattered. If someone had died, it could have been prevented by my calling the cops even though they may have been "just hanging out". So use whatever means you have to break up these groups that hang on the street. If you even THINK you smell marijuana, call the cops and say they're smoking drugs in public. If they're riding bikes on the sidewalk, make the call. The gang loitering law has been struck down, but there are other things you have to use to your advantage. Someone's life may have been saved because of this one phone call. Keep up the good work.

I can't believe so many people are falling for "Rachel Slur's" lame act. People, it's someone's weak attempt at satire. The writer believes the exact opposite of what they're writing. Geez, it's not that hard to figure out. His (and I'm pretty sure it's a guy) so-called wit is about as original as Porky's 3. C'mon, people, I was sure you were all smarter than that.

Man On The Street said...

Big Daddy, once again I agree with you. The idiots ACT with impunity because the law says they can. They know they have no consequences to their actions (other than a person who gets fed up and takes matters into their own hands in some manner), so why not block sidewalks, harass passersby?

So since the kids have no consecquences to their actions, why not put the onus on the parents? Why can't you write a ticket for the parents everytime their kid has to be moved from a corner for the third time or caught fighting in the street, etc. You can get a boot on your car and be forced to pay hundreds of dollars just because you're a day late with a city sticker, but your kid is involved in illegal activity and ... nothing? We need parental fines, garnishing of wages if they don't pay, etc., everything the cops have to play parent and teach the kids civlity.

Of course, when they turn 17, all bets are off. Lock 'em up.

The cycle of poverty doesn't stop. The problems are much bigger than a few teenagers, labled "gang bangers", hanging out being loud. Parents need to be more accountable for their children. I agree that the police need to do a better job of patrolling areas that are and have historically been hangout spots for teens. A few nights ago I was awaken by a loud group near Arthur/Bosworth at 3am, so I know what it feels like. Maybe they should start giving out tickets for curfew violations first. I agree with Big Daddy that arrests don't help the real issues at hand.

Anonymous said...

Bigdaddy, I can't agree with you more! I do agree that there is no consequence for these morons actions.

It would be great if they could start holding the parents responsible for their actions. If they do not show to a court date, lock them up to!

And Racheal slur is obviously comic relief.

Man On The Street said...

Yeah, do it. You gotta use what you can. Here's the exact law.

Chicago Bike Laws

Sure it might seem piddling, but if it means a reason to get the cops to send them on their way or give them a ticket, use it. So next time you see one of those teens doing "surveillance" work for the rest of the gang and he's cruising down the sidewalk on his bike, call the cops.

Big Daddy said...

If you could actually get a judge to hold a parent accountable, that would be a good start. But most judges won't hold the kid accountable so why would I think they would hold mom and dad (if he can be found) accountable? But I do agree, that would be a great start.

My very dearest fellow Rogers Park neighbors,
These are just children on whom you are commenting. Their lives have hardly begun. At one of the recent CAPS meeting I attended, the police suggested that the neighbors, instead of complaining, might volunteer as mentors for these disadvantaged youths. That certainly would be an alternative to the harsh criticism these youths and their unfortunate parents receive here. My heart is breaking with grief as I read your words. How can you have such hearts of stone? These dear young people need our love and support. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child and you all are residents of that village. May our dear Jesus bless you all.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, guess what happens? It has become worse. I just learned that beginning 01Jan10, we now be required to treat anyone who is arrested and is under the age of eighteen as a juvenile. That's right. All those goofy seventeen year old delinquents who are still in their sixth or seventh year of high school and are responsible for some of the mini riots that occur at virtually every single public high school in the city of chicago will now be processed as juveniles courtesy of the Juvenile Justice Institute and the MacArthur Foundation as well as a few other liberal groups who think that laws pertaining to juveniles should be aimed at reform rather than punishment. It appears that they feel that these goofy kids are more of a victim than an offender.I invite their members to ride along with me at dismissal time for a better understanding of what life is really like and the what a wonderful idea this is. I'll bet some of those members live in RP and might even read this blog. Bend over folks, here it comes. I really feel sorry for those of you that live anywhere near a CPS high school. The namby, pamby, feel good liberal segment of society has taken away the one tool that we had. Good Luck. I can promise you that you are going to need it.

Razldazlrr said...

Big Daddy - yep, that's bad news. It's like some of the people just have absolutely no touch of reality and they are still living in a college "let's make it nice" liberal textbook. Personally, I think we should put all the kids and the people that think they should still be charged as juveniles in a town together! You really have to wonder what has happened to the citizens who are the real victims.

Man On The Street said...

Better yet, suggest that they take a walk along some of our more active streets at about 7 p.m. or later. I'm pretty sure they won't consider these punks "kids" when they're being beaten by three or four of them for their iPod.
