I wish they would try to rob me when I'm off duty, especially the one on the left. Then I could introduce them to my little friend Roscoe.
Is there a loop hole to carry a gun in Chicago without being a cop and without having the gun in a fanny pack?
I wish they would too Big Daddy!!! I am so sick of these punks that wander our city streets
So am I Razldazler and you can thank the alleged "criminal justice" system here as well as the ACLU. There is no justice here, only a revolving door for those who choose crime as a way of life. It's nauseating from the top on down. You have judges who refuse to put people in jail, states attornies who refuse to file felony charges on a whim, policemen who do not want to arrest anyone because they are mad at the mayor, victims who refuse to sign complaints because they are worried about being labeled as racist, egghead intellectuals who pontificate about how to solve crime when they don't have a clue, politicians from Washington who will hold conferences about juvenile crime when they can't see that the solution is staring them right in the face, community activists who use use murder victims as a way to get more grants/money, the list goes on and on. I don't think this problem is solvable anymore. Not with what I mentioned above. Look at the sheets of all those that we arrest everyday. Page after page after page of previous arrests. When are we going to admit that there are certain members of society that just cannot or will not be reformed? When will we stop making thugs who just happen to get a taste of their own medicine like the kid at Fenger, into saints? That incident happens everyday citywide, the only difference is that that one resulted in a murder and was caught on tape. When will the so called "reverends" stop the race baiting and actually do something to make their community a little better. When will Jesse Jackson Jr. start referring to gangs as gangs instead of ethnic or political groups as he did recently on WTTW? When will be recognize the entire Constitution of the United States and allow good, decent, law abiding citizens the right to possess and carry the tools needed for survival?
I'm losing hope and patience. I'm almost to the point of calling it quits and moving to Montana. At least there they lock bad guys up and put them where they belong. In jail, not back into the community like we do here and then wonder why crime is out of control or why people are held hostage in their own homes.
WOW Big Daddy, well said!
I have been in RP for almost 2 years and don't know the in's and outs but from what I can hear and see you are dead on.
It's very sad to say but I don't want to pick this battle and I think the best thing to do for me is to give up and move. We all have a choice to move. Life is to short and I would rather spend the time making money to move out then fighting this HUGE BATTLE.
I will say my goodbyes in a couple years. I just hope i dont get shot by then.
Truly sick of the bad people in this neighborhood.
BG
If the alderman doesn't care, why should we?
The "loophole" to carry a weapon in Chicago is, and this is true, be an Alderman/person, there is an exemption for them. Also, I believe-not sure on this one-be a "Crook" County Sheriff's Deputy, which is a title often given out to "friends" of the system.
BG - it's certainly not just the bad people in this neighborhood - they are all over - I also get tired of the politicians, preachers, etc that pay attention to it when there is something in it for them. The ACLU, well - there's not a lot to say about them - they cause a lot more problems than they help. I do think people are about to have a revolution against the gang bangers and punks that think they own the streets. Again - I still think you put all of them in Soldier Field together and let them fight it out.
Well you have the mayor to blame for a lot of this crime. He should have left those people in the projects where they wanted to be. If they wanted better for themselves they would have moved, but the ones that were still there wanted to be there. Sure we still have crime in the city, but not like now.
@ Leslie
I never said the problems are from only the bad people. I was just saying that im truly sick of the bad people in this neighborhood.
And now that i think of it. My issues with RP would be solved if the bad people we no longer here.
And yes bad people are everywhere. but, believe it or not there are places where about 99% of people are truly "good people" and will give to the community in a positive way.
Here in RP it seems its about 60% are "good people."
Thats a big difference! Still that 1% of bad people in the "Good location"
I would choose the 99% and thats what im working for. $100,000 salary later....
I dont care about politicians, preachers, etc. They mean nothing to me. The facts are what i see everyday in RP and its not pretty.
Solution: Start a revolution or move the hell out of RP. its pretty simple. Ill choose the easy way....... Like i said i dont want to pick this battle.
6300 block of Lakeview? I just moved to Rogers Park, and this Calvin guy must be my neighbor.
Delightful.
Then I could introduce them to my little friend Roscoe.
Actually, BD, I'm thinking about packing a little something myself. I believe we've had this conversation before about what would happen if a regular citizen is caught with a gun, but the way things are going now, I'll take the chance, particularly with the thugs getting bolder. You expect to be on alert for trouble at midnight, 1 a.m., 3 a.m., etc. But more and more these things are happened at 9 p.m., 7 p.m., 4 p.m. The thugs apparently don't care, so I guess I gotta take the same attitude. I don't think we can wait for all of these social programs to save the youth to kick in (particularly since there are literally hundreds of them already in existance right now and apparently aren't doing any good). Not sure how I go about getting a little something (take a ride to Indiana?) and I'm not going to ask you, BD, and put you on the spot as a guy sworn to uphold the law, but just sayin'...
Estes Parent,
A lot of people would like to have gotten out of the housing projects, but not that simple as just picking up and moving.
When my mother moved herself and her three kids into the Rockwell Gardens housing projects in 1966, the plan was not to remain there forever. She was trying to re-establish herself after her and Dad separated (and eventually divorced). As women weren't making as much money as men were back then (and still aren't in a lot of cases), she had to struggle to make her phone operator's paycheck work. On top of that, Dad never paid child support or alimony. Eventually, we were able to move out in the summer of 1970.
There are people -- and not just thugs and malcontents -- who are perfectly content to remain in the projects. One of my aunts still lives in a project building, and has been there for decades. But there are also those that due to circumstances, aren't able to leave, even though they want to do so.
Boxing Tomboy is right, there are many, many good people who live in the projects. I've been in many apartments that were clean, well kept and reflected well on the occupants. That's the good side. The bad side as we all know, is that there were also many, many thugs who also lived there and most of them live amongst us as there are not many projects left.
MOTS- If you can leave me a number somehow, I will call you.
Just to mix things up, I thought I'd mention that the ACLU is not a monolith. Read this, for example:
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jul/11/only-nevada-aclu-opposes-gun-control/
Or this:
http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Driving+while+armed:+the+ACLU+defends+gun+rights.-a0166187351
Or this:
http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/275781
The ACLU isn't always anti-gun. It depends on the circumstances. This is not a Yes/No issue.
Jeff, the ACLU is one of the things that is wrong with America.
MOTS- If you can leave me a number somehow, I will call you.
Here's my email address. It's a generic Yahoo one so I don't care if anyone sees it. Drop me a line there and I'll send the number. I realize anyone could write and say they're you, but I'll take a chance.
manonthestreet1@yahoo.com
thanks.
You can pull a few examples of the ACLU doing something that makes sense but very few!!! Generally, they are standing up for ridiculous statements and circumstances. For example - the lawsuit against a cross on the hill in the desert that had been there for 100 years. Who cares????
The people and "do gooders" that put together these programs for the gangbangers and thugs that look good only on paper should live with them and around them for a few weeks. They would change their tune quick.
Does anyone have a court date for this group?
Would like to express my support of locking these 3 up for a while.
How did it go for JB.
Sentencing yet for JB.
Hey Craig,
This is off topic, but I talked with Katy Hogan a few moments ago. . .she's working with the Danny Davis campaign. She wanted to arrange to have people stand outside the church with petitions on Sunday. The idea was to catch people as they come out of service in order to get them to sign the petitions.
Pastor Bolander turned down Joe Moore a few years ago when the alderman wanted to give a campaign speech to the congregation. It was a safe bet to assume that he would not approve of Ms. Hogan's request. Our church hasn't been used as a polling place for years, let alone for any politicians wanting support for their campaigns.

I totally agree with Big Daddy; The ACLU needs to go!
I totally agree with Big Daddy; The ACLU needs to go!
Not go, just pick and choose their battles better. There's still a need for defense of civil liberties, but some of the things they're defending...man.

What about the "DRAFT". Just a sugestion. My brother and I were children of a single mother. Without a father living in the house and a mother who was always away from home working for a paycheck to cover the rent and groceries, (there was no Wic or Link for her)it left me and my brother home alone most of the time. As my brother became a teenager, he started hanging in the streets, skipping school and getting into trouble. Then one day my brother received a Draft notice in the mail. He cried and stomped his feet and swore that he would NEVER go. The moral of the story is, he did go, he became a man, he received his High School Dipolima and he received a Mechanical Degree to be a Jet Mechanic. He came out of the service got a job with Delta Airlines and the rest is history. The Draft is not a bad thing. It saved my brother from the streets and gave him a chance in life that he may of never had. I know it would make a differance in most of the kids lives that are hanging on the streets now. Most of them only want a chance. I had rather my tax money go to giving a kid a chance than to pay for a kids lawyer. I don't know, maybe...

Well, Jeff (I'll just forget the 'o'--it is really of no consequence, is it?).
There are a couple of RP hangers-on about in the neighborhood you should know of, jeff, and they're are trying to cause harm here in Rogers Park.
Their names are well-known by Craig: Ginderske and Westgard. And these two slugs of Joe Moore's are trying very hard to put a chip in the new Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce, which Westgard tried himself a few years ago--and could not make a go of it. Perhaps he found he could not kite the checks necessary for the establishment of a chamber for Rogers Park?
Well, Bill Morton has done everything, tried and true, down to the last crossed 't'...and who will support him in this? Not many, it seems.
Does Rogers Park want an accountable Chamber of Commerce--or not? Seems there're a bunch of slugs living here...who WANT everything, but ain't willing to do a damned thing for it?
Just call me RACIST, as Jim Ginderske and Tom Westgard have. Guess what, folks? I surely ain't no Katy Hogan? Nor would I ever want to be.
I am for people...you who know whom you are, no matter what your color or ethnicity...I have many friends and acqaintances, from all over the world. To be accused as a racist? I removed posts from RP1000...in hopes that my own LIFE would not be compromised.
Those who know me, or of me, understand I speak Truth...which is not cared for too much these days, is it?
But...the Truth SHALL set you free...to know and understand more truth.
Thank you, Craig, for the opportunity to express my view.
Wow - how these comments make me laugh. Talk about passive - aggressive ..ha. Typical couch potatoe mentality.
