Northwestern Student Raped Near Jarvis EL

A Northwestern University student says she was grabbed from a CTA train in Chicago early today and assaulted in a nearby apartment, according to school officials. The woman boarded a northbound CTA train to return to Evanston, and the man entered the train and asked her to go to his home, according to an alert posted on the Northwestern University Web site. The woman refused, and the man forced her off the train at the Jarvis Street CTA station. She tried to escape but the man led her to an apartment building about a half block from the station. He took her up an elevator to an apartment and sexually assaulted her, Cubbage said. Source/read more.

The police say they don't find this woman's report credible, and neither do I.

For one thing, there is nothing said about a weapon. If the assailant indeed forced her off the train with just his hands, he would have had to do so in front of the rail operator, who would have his eyes on the doors at the stop.

She could have, upon being pushed out of the car, have dashed up to another car, or to the front of the train. She could have yelled or screamed.

I mean, this COULD have played out as she reported, but it seems implausible and contrived. It would be more believable if she had said what kind of weapon the man used.

I'd like to hear more details. Like, does she know this guy? Were there other passengers in the car? At the stop? Did she try to alert the operator? Did she cry out?

You really hate to subject a rape victim to a trial of sorts to establish her credibility, but this particular crime seems to inspire a lot of false reports, and you really want to be sure you have a real case before you wreck some guy's life.

When the link got removed I thought the same thing. Plus, they took it off the university website, too.

Some people just need attention when they are having challenges at school. Unfortunately, there are better ways to go about it than a call to the CPD and a questionable cry for help.

I wonder if an embarrassing experience just got more embarrassing?
