Where's Craig?

So many people ask why I don't update the blog. Well, to tell the truth, I've been very busy lately.

well im glad that your magazine is doing so well

looks like someone else will just have to pick up the slack
with either a new blog
and you could just give the blog to someone else

cause right now, its pretty much dead

So youre too busy with your faggot business. Figures.

Seriously, billjoe - did you really need to go there? Apparently your mother did not teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say you shouldn't say anything at all.
If you don't like Craig's blog or his magazine - then don't read them! It's not any more complicated than that.

@ billyjoe: Why are you such an ignorant, mad at the world, idiot? That has to be one of the stupidest comments I have ever seen on this blog! Why don't you keep your stupid a$$, hate comments to yourself! The world would be a much better place without them!

Craig Gernhardt said...

I usually delete comments like this. I felt this time around I'd let my readers know how hateful people still are in 2010.

And you also wonder why I tire of this?

I actually think its best to just ignore the comment....... But Im with Geo, This site is dead. The info that has been posted has little or no interest to me. Timmy and his school? Your Motox races? I thought this was about the community and not a personal blog.

I want crime content, gun shots, murders, meetings, good and bad things going on in my community.

Obviously most of us have very busy life's and it looks like Crag is too busy. Which is very very understandable.

Good luck with everything Craig.

I need to find a new blog anyone have any suggestions?

I am looking at a condo on 7768 north sheridan, right around the bend nexxt to the Cemetery. I have three young children and want to know if the neighborhood is safe for kids and family. there is a lot of crime related news in rogers park, but i would appreciate if someone familiar with the area or you Craig could shed some light. thanks

Craig, it would be just plain insane to neglect a solid business, such as your magazine, that your dad spent so many years building- and never more so than in this Great Depression No. 2. There are enough local businesses biting the dust and you don't want to add yours to the body count. It is not easy to build one from scratch.

But it could be that you are just bored with the local scene. I notice that Morse is much quieter and cleaner than it used to be.

Speaking of Morse, I got an e-mail blast from Moore's office announcing a community meeting regarding a new restaurant-bar that wants to open in the new condo building at 1412 W Morse. They need a zoning change from the current B3.3 to C1.3 plus a permit for 7 off-site parking spaces.

The restaurant sounds like it will be very good. It is to be owned and operated by the same guys who own Ziggos in Lincoln Square and who own the building (which isn't selling any condos these days)at 1412.

The meeting will be next Wed night, the 13th, at 6 PM, at United Church at Morse & Ashland Aves, on the third floor. It ought to be an interesting meeting, the owners will have the plans there.

Gee, it sounds to me that some of you don't want a safe (and dull) community. I think it's good that Craig is spending more time on his magazine than this blog. It appears to have calmed down in Rogers Park anyway. There just seems not to be that much major crimes anymore. Trust me, I should know. I come through Rogers Park everyday except on weekends to attend Sullivan (by the way, it's calm. No need for a blog post for now).

In fact, speaking about my posts, after seeing comments like BG's, I'm starting to think I don't need to update on Sullivan anymore. It's not like there's actually any fights going on or anything anymore. Most often we get a fight now is like once a month or something. Also, you guys have a basic knowledge of what goes on at Sullivan everyday. It's not a bad high school. If it's so bad, I suggest you all come to the school and see for yourselves. Oh, but it might shock you what you see. It doesn't shock me anymore. I'm used to it. And lastly, in my opinion, none of you (except for Craig basically) REALLY care what's going on anyway. If you did, you would've changed the so-called "violence" at Sullivan by herding administration when I started posting to this blog in December 2008. But nobody did that. And it's gotten calmer at our school with what seems little help from the community. So, for now on, I feel that if you have a complaint about Sullivan, take your butt down there and go see administration. I don't have to waste my time writing blog posts that hardly anyone seems to care for. The only people who care are Craig and most of the staff at Sullivan. I have my own blog that needs more attention anyway.

For people like geo (who's jeffo, judging from the typing) and BG, who like to see so much crime, tell you what? I live in a little community that's bounded by Addison, Pulaski (and the METRA northwest line I think it is), Diversey and the north branch river that has lots of crime. And tons of it. You want gunshots? You want an active blog? Take a little road trip to my community. It's called Avondale. I think you'll get so shocked by living or visiting down here that you'll run back to Rogers Park. After all, my neighborhood is dubbed the worst neighborhood on the north/northwest sides of Chicago.

Finally, geo and BG, why don't you guys team up and start a blog? Since it's so "dead" around Broken Heart?

That ends my rant. Thank you for listening (through typing, LOL) and looking.

@ AvondaleLoganSquareCrimeBlotter

I think you are twisting my words.

Of course I want a safe community are you crazy? RP is not a place where i want to raise my kids....Im working on getting out of here and i will in 1-3 years.

I would be shocked if crime just stopped. I know crime is going on its just not being blogged.

I dont think the Sullivan School is very important unless you have children that go there. The community is not just about the Sullivan school.

"For people like geo (who's jeffo, judging from the typing) and BG, who like to see so much crime"

Ohh come on. I want to see news related to crime that is going on. I also want to see good things going on in the community!

JUST NEWS THAT MATTERS!

How could there be so much news about the community and it just stop. Almost as if the crime is not blogged it didn't happen. Please, crime is going on all the time. Im assuming this cold weather has turn down crime a bit but its still going on.

No i don't want gun shots. Unless bad guys being shot.

Im sure there are a ton of placed worse than RP. Rp is not so bad but like i said. I want out and its not a great place to raise kids IMHO.

I was blessed with living in place that seems like different plant.

People are nice, no trash, no sirens, no tickets for everything, no real crime, no worries about getting robbed, no theft going on, feel confortable leaving you doors unlocked, and just plain good people.

NO NEEDING TO PUT YOUR GPS/RADAR ON THE FLOOR SO YOU WINDOWS DON'T GET SMASHED!

Come on people this place blows! I think if you were raised here you just dont know about how things can be.

Cant wait to get out..

As for starting a blog... Seems very tempting. I just cant make the time and the time i would spend doing the blog i should be doing other things. I think a twitter blog by everyone is the way to go!

I really do appreciate all the work and time you bloggers have put getting out info. Including Timmy. Information is very important. Thank you.

No, I'm not twisting your words, BG. I read it and replied to it just like I saw it.

I'm not crazy. It just seems like to me that you and geo, who say that this blog is dead, don't want a safe community, according to what I've read.

Altough crime will never stop, it's not that bad in RP if you ask me. Of course, I don't live up there I just go to school there, but when I've walked the streets with my class, it seems safe. Especially Morse. I can't believe how Craig used to describe it (but Craig, I believed every word you wrote). That was awful. However, it seems to be way better than it was before. I get more scared going down Diversey (a street in my community) than I do Morse. But you are correct when you say there's still crime up there even though Craig hasn't really blogged about it as of late. But according to the Chicago Police CLEARmap, all of the crime is really happening north of Howard. That is still one section of town I don't plan on visiting.

I don't know what you mean when you say unless there's children going to Sullivan it's not important. Me, my classmates and other kids in the school are children, aren't we? Just because we're not babies or 7 year olds or whatever doesn't mean you should forget about us. We high school kids are people, too.

And, yes, Sullivan is important to you. Alot of us from Sullivan commit crimes in RP, don't we? Or about when my regular peers fist fight in the street? Isn't that crime? That's a "Battery in progress", and Battery is crime.

But if you still think Sullivan's not important, don't bother reading my posts. I don't get alot of readers on this site. They complain that I'm the one doing all of the posts, and that my news isn't interesting. If it wasn't interesting, you wouldn't be reading and commenting, would you? I don't think so.

There was "so much news but it stopped" because Craig's working on his magazine. Didn't you read that?

You're correct that crime happens all of the time. And, in fact, it happens EVERYWHERE. I don't care what city, what state, what country you live in, THERE IS STILL CRIME. Some places are just better than others. So, when you move out of Chicago, please let us know and then tell me how it is in your new city/town. Robberies, thefts, battery, etc. happen EVERYWHERE.

You say RP isn't that bad, but you want out? Shouldn't you want to try to help and make it better rather than just running away? That's what I'm doing. My community is horrible in terms of crime but I want to stay and help my neighbors make it better.

You say that you appreciate me and other blogs, but you seriously do? It doesn't seem like it to me. After all, you questioned earlier if my news was important or not.

Tell all of you what? Like I said earlier, whatever problems you people face with Sullivan, take it up with them. I'm not blogging about it anymore. I'm tired of being told my news isn't important. I'm tired of getting nasty looks by my peers for doing this blog. I could have a social life.

Thank you,
Timmy

Hey Timmy,

What i meant was maybe they were taken out of context a little. I didnt mean i would like gun shots and crime to happen. I meant that if it does happen i want to know about it.

I do want a safe community who doesn't?

As far as Crime acceptance goes it all depends on your background. Im from a place where one day of crime in Rogers Park would equal a years worth of crime from where I used to live. So it takes some getting used to. Like you at school. If you were at a strict private high school and went to your high school it would be a little bit of a shock (im assuming) but like you said you get used to it.

Ill have to check out CLEARmap and i think you are right about the North of Howard.

Im more concerned about the highschool kids parents than the actual school. I think a lot of the issues are bad parenting. From what I understand its just a bad cycle. You have shitty parents you will most likely have shitty children because you just don't know any better.

I usually dont read your post. I dont know why you think that. If you posted this it seems like craig posted it...

"There was "so much news but it stopped" because Craig's working on his magazine. Didn't you read that?"

Yes and that is obviously more important than this blog for him. I understand that.

"You're correct that crime happens all of the time. And in fact, it happens EVERYWHERE"

yes it does happen everywhere but Timmy come on. One day of crime here is equal to months of crime in better areas. Im not just talking about out side the city. Im talking about out side the state..... There are a ton better places that have a fraction of the crime rate. And I have lived in other places where there is virtually no crime!!!!!! Its heaven compared to RP

"You say RP isn't that bad, but you want out? Shouldn't you want to try to help and make it better rather than just running away?"

Hell NO. I learn to pick my battles and this is not one of them. If im only here for a couple years why spend the time and energy. As sad is that sounds Its true. Im not going to change a dam thing in this community. Its going to take decades of work from people that have power. Not someone with a keyboard. Im just being realistic.

" My community is horrible in terms of crime but I want to stay and help my neighbors make it better."

Hats off to you! I hope you really do that. I personally would rather but my eggs in a different basket....

Timmy i love the last comment! If i was going to your school, or a parent of the school or have family at the school You content is of great importance. Just not for me that's all.

Good luck with everything i really do hope you make this community a better place! You already are IMHO.

OK back to work.......

Speaking of car windows getting smashed. It happened to me last night. They smashed my back window and took a bag I had left on the seat. (stupid I know)

The car was parked by the Loyola Park fieldhouse.

Anyone know of a safe, relatively cheap, parking for rent in the area around Greenleaf and Sheridan?

Congratulations on your magazine coverage expansion Craig, seriously.

Perhaps all of those back issues that I've held for decades will increase in value with Gay Chicago's higher profile?
Their worth is intended as a large chunk of my retirement capital when I decide to post them on Ebay.

As for the blog why not some in-depth coverage of a different resident every few weeks or once a month? Or combine with the Bench blog for a powerful one-two
reportage knockout. Blammy!!

If this isn't feasible then why not blog about me:
My wants and needs;what I'm pondering on as I stare out the window of a cafe?
Who I find attractive or whose
lack of self-confidence I'm willing to attend to after closing time.

How I feel about my hair when I meditate on my reflection in the mirror.
Why it pains me when my employer expects me to be at work before eleven in the morning.
How I can't be expected to stay later than two in the afternoon;two or three anyway. Sometimes four when I feel like meeting a famous, wealthy or beautiful female client who is making an appearance for a work related event in the evening.

Also, someone should interview those jealous types that tell me their my friend but actually aren't.
Backstabbers.
But I have to forgive because that's what a friend recently called my "superior ways".
What a charmer.
Astute too.

So have someone send me an email and then I can provide contact information.

About the New Business Proposal on Morse-- I definately want to see new business startups on Morse Ave., but the community should proceed with caution especially when zoning changes are requested.
1) How many late night taverns do we want on Morse? From what I read in Alderman Moore's email blast-they are requesting a tavern license. So really this will be a bar that serves food. Right now there is Moreseland, Glenwood, Redline, Heartland, Mayne (formerly Morse Theatre) and Dukes within a block of eachother.
2. When zoning is changed and if this business fails or changes hands, what type of future businesses could replace it?
3. According to Alderman Moore, the property owner now owns or operates "Xippo" in Lincoln Square. I have read some good reviews and some very scary reviews about Xippo online at Yelp and CitySearch. One reviewer on CitySearch wrote:
"by Sillygirl720 at Citysearch
This is quite possibly one of the worst bars in the northside. Xippo belongs on Division St., not a nice residential area. The owners have no regard for the neighborhood and the street is littered with cigarettes every Sunday morning. I would give my business somewhere else. Also, the food is awful." I am really going to take a hard look at this proposal -- for the potential long-term impact on area.

Currently our redline bar district serves our community very well.
I am in favor of adding more nite life to Morse Ave.

The review of Xippo seem to be pretty good.
From some place on the web I found this.
The Samardzija brothers have turned their family-owned, former shot-and-a-beer joint into to a swank bar and restaurant. The deep red walls have the same hue as the crushed velvet covering the booths and chairs. And the dimly lit room is illuminated with high-tension, low-voltage lighting that gives each table an intimate feel. The brothers have positioned the space as equal parts bar and restaurant: A dinner crowd populates the tables until 10 p.m. when the bar crowd begins to take over. Chef Adrian Solis, a high school friend of the brothers, comes to Xippo from the Union League Club and has brought a good portion of the menu with him. Specialties include pan-seared duck breast and sauteed Black Tiger shrimp served over ravioli in an alfredo sauce garnished with black caviar. The bar is fully stocked to serve everything from tap beer to apple martinis. A newly opened sidewalk cafe runs alongside the building on Grace Street and seats about 65 at the 17 tables.

BG, there's always the news channels. Don't they report on everything that happens in RP? Sure seems it like to me. We can't even get one media truck down here and we've got more problems than RP has. Or you can buy a police scanner. That's effective.

I'm not accepting crime. In my neighborhood, I tackle it in every way I can. There's not too much I alone can do about that, though.

I come from a ghetto grammar school, not a private high school. My school was at one point the 28th worst school in this city. So Sullivan's NOTHING compared to that school. Which is another good reason why I'm done blogging about it. It's just high school life, so deal with it. Also, I don't really fear the kids at Sullivan.

I'm glad you don't read my posts. It saves you the grief of reading my sorry ass problems. Good.

If you understood that Craig needs to do this magazine more than the blog, you wouldn't have gotten so upset over the fact he's not really updating right now.

I'm not going to try to make RP a better place anymore. I've done my part but nobody cared. So I'm leaving it up to the actual residents of RP. I'm only focusing on making my community better for now on.

I'm assuming by your "hell NO" comment, RP isn't bad. It probably isn't. But I'll let the others tell me. And you're not going to do a damn thing to make the community better? Good. That tells me there was really no problems in the first place. So basically everyone here is being drama queens when they say they have problems up here. Ok. Now, I don't ever want to hear people complaining about how bad RP is again. Because it's not bad, right? On a serious note, I feel bad for all of you other RP residents. It's only going to be the same then.

Good for you you came from a place where there was hardly any crime. I'll bet you can't wait to go back. But unfortunely, I've lived in this city all my life and am used to crime, so I'm staying, and I'll try to make my neighborhood a better place.

Bottom line. I'm responsible for a lot of people's paychecks each week. Employees, contributors and vendors.

I'm responsible for a print bill every week. I printed 52 issues last year. That's double the number the Urban Coaster printed.

Add in rent once a month.

Not to mention all other little bills.

I'm responsible to the various layers of government for various taxes and fees. Including paying into SSA #8.

This blog offers zero revenue to cover those responsibilities.

"The review of Xippo seem to be pretty good."

Is the review you are citing a "press release" or promotional message? Many of the Yelp and CitySearch reviews from actual patrons and those who live nearby are not good for Xippo.

I am concerned about the impact a business has in a neighborhood when operated by careless management. And I am not too impressed with what others have said about the property developers track record at Xippo.

Cited review from CitySearch: "The owners have no regard for the neighborhood."

That is not good, and there just seems to be many negative writeups about this developer.

Morse Ave. really needs new businesses - but not just any business. Lets look very carefully at this proposed new tavern/restaurant for Morse Ave.

Al Iverson said...

Ivan, stop copying and pasting your same "let's look carefully" comment into every blog you read. Somebody might start to think you have some sort of agenda here. So far all I'm getting from it is that 1. you're a crank, and 2. We should go investigate Xippo for ourselves. Have you?

Craig, congrats on snapping up those CFP staffers.

Craig - I definitely understand that you can only work on this blog when you have the extra time. Work that generates income and growth just has to come first.
BG - why are you waiting to move? It seems like you should be gone already to that "nirvana"!
I lived in Lincoln Park and Lakeview for 15 years. There are many things up here that drive me crazy but one of them is the lack of respect people have for others and their property. People just throw trash everywhere! The guy working at 711 (Pratt and Sheridan) said he never picks up after his dogs and laughed, why should he? I was appalled - because it's against the law and very disrepectful of the people that live around you!
