Democratic Party of Illinois State Central Committee Begins Process for Selecting Lieutenant Governor Nominee

Springfield, IL –Democratic Party of Illinois Chairman Michael J. Madigan announced Friday that the party’s state central committee is now accepting materials from those who wish to be considered for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

We intend for this to be an open and transparent process,” Chairman Madigan said. “Anyone that believes he or she has strengths to bring to the ticket is encouraged to submit their name for consideration.”

Those with an interest in appearing before the state central committee may provide information about their background and credentials on the Democratic Party of Illinois website, www.ildems.com. State central committee members reserve the right to determine who will be chosen to address them.

The elected state central committee is composed of 38 members, one man and one woman from each congressional district. Each member will have a weighted vote in selecting the nominee that is equal to the number of Democratic ballots cast in their congressional district in the February 2, 2010 primary election. A new state central committee will be established on March 5.

Dear Friend,

I want to update you on the process to replace the Lt. Governor on the Democratic ticket for the November general election. This is obviously a rather unique situation, brought about by the withdrawal of Scott Cohen.

Thanks to your support, on February 2nd, I was re elected as a member of the 38 person State Central Committee that will be making the selection.

A meeting of the Committee has been scheduled for March 19th. And a web site has been established for persons who are interested in being considered to apply.

I have already been contacted by some persons who wish to be considered (including most of those who ran for the office and lost) and from various groups on behalf of other potential nominees.

I will keep you in the loop as more information emerges. I have not met with any of the potential candidates, nor have I had any discussions with any of my colleagues on the State Central Committee yet. I have no preconceived notion about whom we should choose. The only criteria I have are that the person be qualified to be governor and share the progressive values of my district and those that are contained in the platform of the Democratic Party.

Your thoughts and insights would be most appreciated. Let me know what you think.

Below is a copy of the press release sent out by the Illinois Democratic Party which provides the web site.

Warm Regards,

Carol Ronen

This is so exactly like the Stroger imbroglio, it almost looks concerted. Did our IL Dems know of Cohen's tawdry past already, and conceal it, knowing that things would likely play out as they are now?

Whatever. Once more the IL Democratic machine has successfully circumvented the democratic process and will choose their anointed candidate with no imput from the electorate.

Why isn't there a special election to select another candidate? It may cost money to do this, but the price is cheap compared to what we are paying for the corruption and rule by a tiny oligarchy here.

Let me guess who the leading candidate is.

The entire thing was a joke. They should have vetted Cohen before he went on the ballot. Now no one wants the job with Quinn. Why go on a ticket where you are going to lose. Me? I'll take the Republican thank you

I don't think that the steroidal Mr. Cohen should have quit. He would have supplied months of hilarity. As it now turns out, little Todd Stroger is in need of employment. Give the little guy a chance.
