Early this morning (3:40AM) two loud explosions created a fire on the northbound CTA Red-line tracks at Morse Avenue. The first explosion woke me up -- and as I looked out the window I saw a second fireball explosion. This was a deliberate act by a person who I couldn't get a decent description on. The unknown arsonist fled south. Train service was briefly shutdown and the tracks were repaired with-in 30 minutes. Police recovered a bicycle from the tracks.
Blognotes: I'm sure that either the Police Pod Cam on Morse and Glenwood or the cameras mounted on the west side of the Reside on Morse building could provide help in catching this person.
Update: Yeah, right. A bicycle just mysteriously fell on the tracks at 3:30 in the morning. Source.

"Frying the el" is a longtime youth pastime. In my day, a ragtag group in Evanston called "The Noyes Boys" was known for creating such "explosions" on the section of the el tracks that run along the golf course between Linden and Noyes Sts. I didnt realize that pranksters still commit this fairly dangerous act: tossing conductible metal objects that are long enough to touch the outside and "third" rails to light up the night. Im sure this is still done all over the city.
Judging by the shooting around the city and things like this; I think we are in for an active summer!
what happened the other day in front of my building? a 17 year old was shot or something...my whole street (greenview) was shut down on st. patrick's day around 4pm. anybody know anything?
