Driver grazed by gunfire in Rogers Park

A 24-year-old man driving in the Rogers Park neighborhood this morning was grazed by a bullet, police said. The incident happened about 7 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Farwell Avenue, according to police. The assailant fled after firing.
The man suffered a graze wound to his left shoulder and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in good condition, police said. Belmont Area detectives are investigating.

what also is not mentioned
is that after the idiot driver hit two parked cars he got out of his car and ran as well.

was his car stolen or what?

Let's see, 24 is watching a prisoner in the emergency room up in Evanston right now. Wonder if this is the mutt that got hit with the bullet, then hit two cars and tried to split the scene?

All before 7AM.

Just for the hell of it
as I got home late today

6/16/10 10pm
prostitutes and gangbangers
at greenview and farwell
tons of them.

Called it in to police.
Lets see if anything is done.

I have to run patrol for the neigborhood it looks like.

Having them down a few blocks doesnt make me feel safer.

Having a patrol car sit in the farwell el viaduct during the day is nice. But please run patrol.

I feel like I have to suit up and jump in a car and start cracking skulls, what the hell!

Ok, dont mean to be negative.

Called for gang activity at wayne and farwell at 1230am last night
6/17/10

Fairly quick response, thanks men in blue. They handcuffed two of the hoodlums and looked for drugs for about twenty minutes with flashlights in the grass and street. Then let them go. But hey it broke up their party. There was in total about 8 guys on the corner.

I don't get it and have heard all kinds of stories - what happened again? I saw the crashed cars and police vehicles there in the morning. Is there an actual newspaper post or anything about it?

okfrom i heard at the common cup
is that this guy driving the ford suv is actually a decent guy that was dropping someone off or picking someone up and what happened was, some thug sob was walking down the street and wanted the driver to go ahead and go through the intersection.

THEN, the driver motioned nah thats okay, and then the pedestrian was being dick and flashed gang signs and said some shit and then the driver said something back.

And the Wallah! pedestrian ahole opens fire on driver.

Thanks ahole pedestrian

I guess this is a case of Pedestrian Rage/ Ahole looking for a fight and he found one.

Understandly the driver was scared for his life and freaked out and crashed and then ran.

Well maybe thats what happened.
I dont know.

about 12:30 last night I was walking my dog and as I passed Farwell/Greenwood, a teen stopped to p-ss on a building; I pointed my flashlight at him to let him know it's not ok, then called out for him to stop. his 4 companions all started chiming in on how they're dealers/gangbangers,etc.and that they "own" Farwell. Their "pack" actions started getting edgy, like it could go either way or possibly they could 'back it up' beyond their verbal barrage, so I kept moving slowly. 2 pedestrians moved around the scene. the young men spread out; there was also a thin young girl w/ them who I thought was on a cellphone. One 'standup' neighborhood guy came out and witnessed the stupidity. Then a dilapidated black cadillac with 2 older men in it pulled up and communicated w/ the others, then they moved on quicky as a plain cop-drug car and a marked cop SUV pulled through the intersection. I don't feel safe sometimes, and that makes me angry enough to stand up- which can be stupid if the opportunity is poorly chosen.

some guy pissed on my car the other day.

Looks like another bunch of losers is trying to take over.

The other bunch of losers who were at 6914 N wayne were kicked out.

Its like a new rotation of losers and some of the same old losers just love this area.

Its historical ties are too hard to break.

Some guys were playing an impromptu game of cards on the back of a car in front of the old peoples home on wayne yesterday.

Haha. that didnt last long

yeah a.c. dont start nothing with these fools.

That idiot who i caught red handed pissing on my car denied it.
I ofcourse thought of many witty things I couldve said in response.

A.C. I cross the street to walk elsewhere when i see these thugs.

They want to have a fight. Or just instigate trouble.

Just keep calling the cops.
Thats what I do, let the cops deal with them.

Another thought,

looks like they guys are literally marking their territory.

haha.

Craig-You just recently noticed what a hellhole Farwell is? It's been that way for nearly 20 years!

Compared to Pratt, Farwell is Oak Street.

Hate to ask here, but I just rented a place on the 1500 block of Farwell, should I be afraid for my life, or if I just stay out in the daytime and keep my doors locked I shouldn't have much of a problem?

Sure, I saw some unsavory characters when I walked by, but I also so even more families, single women, and decent looking people around. I had no idea there was (is there?) so much crime around.

Play it on the safe side, buy a gun.

Larry said...

Do you own a gun, Craig? Do you walk around with it?

Craig Gernhardt said...

I'm now in the market for one.

Hey Craig,

Remember to take your gun safety course, so the city is convinced that you know how to shoot straight. Of course, too many leave their .38 Special out or in easily accessible places for the their kids, nieces and nephews to locate.

The concern is that by the time the the gun is located, will it be useless? I suppose that it depends upon the situation.

It is easy to kill what seems like an intruder. It is more difficult to deal with a situation when the person who you thought was an intruder was your spouse coming home later than normal.
