A hotel? That would be great. Our Uncle stayed at the Super 8 on Sheridan this weekend -- our only option in RP? It was WAY overpriced and smelled like urine. I guess I'm not surprised.
I like the plan. Nothing wrong with a nice new hotel in Rogers Park.
My only concern is who will pay for it, and that the taxpayers should not have to front any part of the bill for this. I read the linked article and it sounds like, while Loyola will be able to pick up most of the tab, that they may have to tap what remains of the Devon/Sheridan TIF to pay for this.
ms21, there are better alternatives than that horrid Motel8 on Sheridan for housing your out-of-town relatives. May I suggest the Cat's Cradle Bed & Breakfast, at 7421 N. Sheridan? It is the large, beautiful house next door to the Emil Bach house, and it is gorgeous. Single room rates range from $150 to $250 a night.
"Single room rates range from $150 to $250 a night."
$150 to $250 a night!
This B&B must be run by a gay man or gay men. They're the only folks brazen enough to ask such prices.
A hotel with rooms that top out at $125 (but mostly sell for $80-$90) is much more reasonable. Guests don't need canopied beds and all that frilly-willy nonsense that come with B&B boarding.
Gee billyjoe, so typical is your attitude towards new businesses that come to RP.
Without even going to meet the owners or see the B&B, you have already been the judge, jury and executioner with regards as to how it looks, the owners, etc.
Why not go and take a look, as did I. It is not only NOT frilly or willy or run by gay guys (and so what if it was?)
It is a beautiful, very tastefully decorated house that I for one am glad that they have chosen to share this home with our neighborhood.
The owners are very gracious and accomodating. Give it a chance and go see it, then make your comments.
Larry: Im talking price. Folks who go visit their kids/attend graduations at Loyola shouldnt have to fork up $150-$250 for a room in RP. If they want to pay that, they'd get a much better room (and view and location and likely a pool) downtown. Better security too.

Whose money is Loyola using for this project?
Money they received through tuitions, donations, and other private sources?
Or money from the Loyola/Sheridan TIF?
Yeah i posted this on

Free clinic concerns in Rogers Park
Northshore Evanston Hospital has changed the boundaries for its two free clinics
WGN News
July 6, 2010
CHICAGO - Northshore Evanston Hospital has changed the boundaries for its two free clinics.
New patients, who live south of Howard Street or West of I-294 will have to choose a different, free clinic.
The change makes 700 people from Rogers Park ineligible for care.
Patients who live outside the boundaries, but were patients before July 1st, will still be allowed to use the hospital's adult and children's clinics.
The Hospital's president says the changes were necessary -- it saw a 40 percent increase in patient volume over the last year.

cat's cradle is owned by one of the pritzkers.
Good tip on the Rogers Park B&B. Didn't know about that. Very good for the area.
billyjoe, if you can't afford the price, pee in your pants and shuffle on over to the Motel8. I'm sure you already exude the required stank.
God bless business. God bless the producers. God bless their wealth. God bless America.
I wasn't aware that a Pritzker owned Cat's Cradle but I'm glad to hear of it.
I am glad to hear that the Pritzker family is investing in this area. It augers well for the future of Rogers Park.
Yeah it is pretty cool.
We need the kinda of money that pritzker has to improve rogers park.
Btw thats funny chip bag.
