Shots fired on Farwell

About 3PM today people are reporting 2 to 4 shots fired at Farwell and Greenview. I arrived on the scene at 5:00PM to find the area taped off and witnesses said shots had actually been fired. The area was blocked off from traffic, and apparently a car was hit.

An active police investigation was under way. I emailed the CPD and was told shots were fired, and the investigation is currently active. I have more details from witnesses, including a roofer who was working above the scene that need to be verified by command, but there's more to this story.

Earlier many teens were reported being handcuffed at North Shore and Sheridan after a short police foot chase. No word if these to incidents are connected.

Oh, no person was actually hit. Just shots fired.

Heard lots of sirens on the Morse Ave around 3:00 P.M. The locals might just be firing off some practice rounds, getting ready for their July 4 celebration.

yeah - this is the second shooting we have had on the block in two weeks. And had a break-in at the Common Cup around the corner last week. Further, last week, the United Church of Rogers Park thrift store had LK spray-painted on the entrance.

Farwell Ave. east from Ashland is da "Stone Co' Ghetto" of RP. So are the streets Pratt and Morse. Way too much rental property on all these streets.

Well its up for grabs turf.

The locals dont want them there.
The gangs seem to think its a great place. But they cant really hold the territory very well, so the up for grabs aspect is too tantalizing for local gangs.

Are there alot of drug users in the area? Saw a drug baggie at the corner of wayne and farwell this am.

Farwell is looking nice and litter free though.

If no crime happened at all
we wouldnt have any news on our local blog.

Went to act one cafe last night
and ate outside, very nice.

The tuna sandwich had too much mint so they comped it and i got a tootsie roll cheesecake instead, very good.

I've lived on the 1400 block of Farwell for 6 years and I think it's great. This is by far the worst surge of activity in that time. If it keeps going like this, not good... we'll see how the summer goes. As many calls to 911 as it takes, etc. I think the rental properties are less maintained between Ashland and Clark myself... still wouldn't use show-off terms like "Stone Co' Ghetto" as this is a long way from Englewood. Other than the corner of Farwell & Wayne from my block to the beach has always been a nice walk, night and day. Sorry to have such a rosy view....

How is it ghetto?
I guess by the riff raff it still attracts
and by who still lives there.

On a positive note, Streets and Sanitation power-washed the Glenwood underpass at Farwell this week.

No more pigeon shit.

I live in the 1200 block of W. Pratt, and since the dump at 1200, the old corridor bldg. on the corner of Pratt and Sheridan, has been renovated and filled with nice tenants, there have been no problems nearby.

In fact, I have never experienced real problems on this block, or the next. Astor House has SOME weird tenants, but mostly are pretty decent people. I do not see lowlifes congregating at the entrances to buildings around here.

All the problems on Pratt are west of the tracks, and seem to center around the CHA townhouses up there and the corridor buildings on Wayne. And there are a couple of bad buildings in the 1500 block of Farwell.

A good alderman would be on top of the situation and would have a friendly sit-down with the ownership of these bad properties, and would demand the eviction of the troublemakers in the CHA townhouses. He would demand that owners clean their properties up or a court-ordered vacate or sale would result, on grounds of Neighborhood Endangerment and Harboring Criminal Activity.

Hmm, I live at the corner of Wayne & Farwell. The complex on the Southwest corner has a few bad elements but I'd hardly call this a bad area.

well i live at wayne and farwell also. and i wouldnt say that it is bad area either. Its just that bad people like to congregate here.

Like brittany, a loud mouthed AA girl, very busty who is always yelling at all hours of the night.

I saw her counting a large wad of cash and she told a guy walking his dog this am about 530 that she sells crack.

I called the cops 7/3 am and they drove right by her even though i gave a description, They have to understand these people are not going to be sitting in one place waiting for the cops. They are in the vicinity causing mayhem.
They know they cant sit in one place. Thats what drives me nuts.

The "roach motel" is getting better. at the southwest corner.

I think its really unforgiveable to design a building with 8 units like that on top of another 8 units.

Its A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H apts.
Didnt know it went that high,
But really that building
has much better people living in it overall.

===The complex on the Southwest corner has a few bad elements===

What do you mean "bad elements?" Is this a key word or something? Please explain further.

I will speak up
it means that when there are gangbangers or thugs around
a tenant or two will come out to cheer them on.

I would call those guys bad elements.

Be careful, geofredo.
Craig is very PC on this blog. He is fearful that by "bad elements" you really mean "black people". We can't say or even think that because as we all know, the noise and fuss and loitering in RP are caused equally by asian people and white people and hispanic people and black people.

Geofredo doesn't need your help and he's right. They are "bad elements' and he doesn't need your help in trying to pin it all on an entire group. It's like insisting he say "white people" when he means the Mafia. If the fact that they're black is the important factor to you, so be it. I'm guessing that Geofredo knows that not everybody black (or latino or white) is a "bad element". he's referring to the idiots on the street causing the trouble. if he wanted to say "African American" instead of "bad elements", it seems as if he would.

I talked to a bicycle cop at Jarvis Beach at around 4:00 on that day. He said that a kid had tried to run over a cop. That would explain why ther were about 15 cop cars. He also said they got the kid.

I live at Farwell and Greenview and was home that day. I heard a screech and car crash. I looked out the window to see 2 undercover cops exchange fire with the car that had skidded and wrecked into a parked car, then tear north up Greenview towards Morse. I assumed the car had tried to hit the cops. They had the whole intersection blocked off for nearly 4 hours, with detectives and crime scene techs and everything.

Yep, there have been some major thugs hanging around on Farwell and Wayne area. Everyone has been trying to make their presence known so the bangers know they are not welcome there.
Wouldn't it be nice to see our Alderman speak up on these problems as much as he cares about WalMart?

got more gang-bangers hanging out at Farwell and Glenwood being loud, obnoxious, and loitering. 911 called - lets see how long this takes . . .
