Kids Playing with Gun: One Takes a Bullet to the Leg

Nine people -- including a police officer and a boy hurt when the gun he was playing with discharged -- were shot during a six-hour span late Saturday into early Sunday. The shootings started about 6 p.m. Saturday when a 13-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the 2000 block of West Howard Street, police said. The teen and a friend were apparently playing with a gun when it went off. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and is listed in “stable” condition Saturday night, police said. No one is in custody early Sunday, and it was not immediately known who owns the gun involved, police said. Read more.

For a city with a gun ban, there sure are a lot of illegal guns floating around Chicago!

Maybe the law is working as it was designed. Keep the guns in the hands of the crooks, and deny the law abiding citizens their constitutional right to protect themselves and their homes.

Uhh, Tim---Sounds to me like the gun in this case was in the hands of a kid.

And if youre not on premises when you get robbed (as is typically the case) how is a gun going to protect you and your home? I guess you assume the robber will be overcome with fear when he or she finds where you hide it.

Duh, billyjoe---Sounds to me like the gun in this case was in the hands of an IDIOT!

billyjoe, I never questioned who had the gun (in this case). Maybe you should read my statement, again. Slowly.

Furthermore, when I spoke of our right to protect ourselves and our homes, I was talking about the right to carry a weapon, period. Not just at home.

Your arrogance seems to supersede your comprehension skills. Next time, think before you type.

I say Concealed Carry for all who qualify should be the law of the land. Carry everywhere. That way you will not have to worry about someone finding your weapon that you hid in your dresser while you were away. And start voting for right thinking Americans who support this not those who would deny you what the Constitution guarantees!

Timothy Fitz: The word is spelled "supercede." Sorry to sound arrogant, but that little Google search feature at the top of your 'puter screen makes it easy to spell check--and to not have to think too much before you type.

Big Daddy: If everyone is allowed to conceal and carry, the entire city will become like those Chicago neighborhoods where innocent people get caught in gun crossfire, or where kids find guns stashed in some supposed secret place and shoot their sibling or friend.

BigDaddy - we haven't seen you for a while, so what's going to happen with the Police Chief with Daley on the way out?

Raz, we can only hope that Weis goes also. He has virtually destroyed the Chicago Police Department. I wonder if it can ever return to what it once was after seeing what he has done. I pray everyday that this nightmare which he has created will end soon. And I'm not a very religious man. But desperate men do desperate things I guess. That's how bad this guy has been.
