My girlfriend who heard the shots very close by called me at 5:45 this morning. We talked until the cops showed up which was at least 10 minutes after the shooting occurred. Anyone who has ever been up at that time knows that only cabs and cops inhabit our RP streets. What the fuck took the cops so long?

Dark clothes and ski masks? Really?

This crap is getting ridiculous. OK, MORE ridiculous.

Police could not disclose the motive for the shooting, but said the victim may be gang-affiliated.

Police were searching for up to six men, believed to be wearing all dark clothing and ski masks, in connection with the shooting. No one was in custody.

I am waiting with baited breath for any comment from our alderman about this latest spate of mayhem.

Think about this when you hear of yet more property taxes to be diverted to build another big box store, or renovate buildings on a lavishly-endowed private college campus, or subsidize 49th Ward landlords to fix up their buildings as long as they set aside units for low-income buildings.

We need to demand that our alderman ride herd on landlords whose buildings are the seats of these problems. There are a number of really bad buildings close to Wayne and Farwell- a ratty motel-type apt building on the sw corner, a similar bldg. around the corner on Pratt, and a bad corridor building on Wayne, and these are just the ones that come immediately to mind. These buildings are being run very irresponsibly.

We need most of all to demand that our elected officials be responsive to our concerns and that public money be used for urgent public needs, such as for our woefully undermanned, underfunded, and demoralized police dept.

It's election time, folks, and we have a real candidate to oppose Joe, and I'm NOT talking about Brian White. Give someone like Blane Roberts, who has opposing views of how to lead the ward and a clear cut plan for implementing his plans, a chance.

Can we keep electing the same people to do the same things and expect different results?

I got a call from a reader who says there was another shooting 2 hours earlier than the one posted here. Around 3 AM.

hey, if you can't even figure out the rules for getting on the ballet, what kind of alderman would you be?

6928 n wayne at the corner of wayne and farwell has been much better the past few years, a couple of apts were pretty messed up from a fire and they are fixing them up. That building is WAY better than the one on Pratt, that one looks terrible and there is always trash in front.

6921 n wayne is by far the worst building on my stretch of wayne.
I have talked to A and P management numerous times about the gang loitering in front of their building and gang graffiti nearby.

If you noticed my previous posts you would see that it shouldnt be a surprise that this crap happened. I told everyone about the gang activity and all the tagging around the neigborhood and the trash around.

@ Northshore

That motel type apartment building on the SW corner of Wayne and Farwell has recently been rehabbed and now sits half-empty. Hopefully the owners will use their brains. The Building that scares me is the the mini jail-section 8 building on Bosworth and Pratt.

We walk our dog all over that area and are always on guard unless at the beach.

We have been long time RP people and have waited and waited for change. With Moore it will never happen. if I could get work in anther state I would be gone in a second.

Any candidate in the running is advised to engage a lawyer who specializes in election law to make sure his petition is bullet-proof. The laws are obtuse, maybe deliberately, and you have at least one very experienced attorney in this city whose sole area of practice in challenging petitions.

If you're a first-timer, it is really easy to trip up, and I do not regard a lack of specialized knowledge in this area as a failure on the part of a candidate.

Frankly, I would rather my candidate have a thorough knowledge of and passion for his neighborhood, his city, and what makes a city thrive and be a place where people want to live and work and do business. Additionally- and this is VERY important- he or she should have enough grasp of economics, not to say eight grade arithmetic, to grasp that you cannot consistently spend more money than you take in, divert a finite revenue stream from public purposes to private projects without serious economic consequences, and that taxpayers whose incomes are stagnating or dropping are not bottomless pits who can be tapped infinitely to give politicians 20% pay hikes on demand and line the back pockets of their multi-millionaire cronies.

ooops
meant 6828 n wayne building
not 6928, my bad.
Yeah I think a bunch of people left 6828 N wayne in a literal "blaze" of glory...

Kinda creepy, you can see whats happening with the neigborhood based on who is hanging out at Nicos Morse Grill.

Now there are very young mexican hoodlums hanging out there,
they looked like they were celebrating their "victory" over their rivals. Pow pow pow.

The yound mexican gang had been knocked out their turf 2-3 years ago and this is them taking it back. Bleck...

it's really horrible - I would also like to hear the Alderman speak up about this and not his usual blah, blah, blah........... We care a lot more about crime than participating in the budget!!! I am so sick of seeing all those punks hanging out by Nico's and that corner of Morse. I wish the police could just throw them all in a bus and dump them on an island!
This is what you get when you have landlords getting a deal for "low income housing". You also end up with many (not all) low class tenants and troublemakers. Joe acts like the section 8 housing is good and he's wrong!!!
