Shots Fired on Greenleaf

Around 3:51 PM today, neighbors started calling 911 for shots fired at 1424 West Greenleaf. According to witness accounts, a male/black in a long black puffy coat, jeans and white shoes fired three shots in the air and fled east on Greenleaf, near Glenwood. First reports said the shooter got into a car. Police gathered information denying a car was involved in the get-away. No motive has been given to why the alleged shooter was firing shots in the air. A police search of the area is in progress.

Hi there, this is the 2nd shooting to happen on this block in the last 2 days.

The 1st incident happened on December 2nd at around 2am.
A window was shot out as a result on the corner of Greenleaf and Greeview, no one was hurt thank goodness.

The 2nd incident happened at 3:45pm today, December 3rd.
I heard 4 gunshots, saw a person running in a black hoodie down Greenleaf toward the parking lot at the end of the block. No one hurt that I know of.

I called the police and so did a few other people.

Once at night and once in the afternoon.

Go to HELL gangbangers.

Let's see, you said the shots were fired at 3:45 PM. The first scanner report was at 3:51 PM.

That's a six minute head start for the shooter, before the police even get a chance to get to the scene.

The shots were fired at 3:45 pm, because my phone says I called 9/11 51 minutes ago, and the current time is 4:38pm...
So my math says that time of the calling was 3:47pm, but I called the 9/11 about a minute or so after the shooting because I was looking out my window to see if anyone was on the move. I hope that helps.
Thanks for posting this Craig.

Yeah Latin Kings versus GDs versus Brazers.

Fun stuff.

12/3/10
brazers out at videostore 1319 w morse 830pm called it in to 911.

also today some nut who had just bought some liqour at the liqour store under the el tracks exposed himself to me (he showed me his teeny weeny) and then he called me a fing faggot. this was at 830pm as well.

also some persian looking dudes were standing in front of golden mini mart, this is at the same time, so yeah alot of stuff happening in Rogers Park.

Fixing up Morse had upset the status quo of the past few years, The GDS need to go!
Atleast they should retreat to Howard. This is frikin ridiculous.

No gang is good
that goes without saying....

I heard the first four shots, saw the guy run though the frontyard of 1424 greenleaf toward a parked car and pop off the last two shots at the parked car and then the car took off west. The shooter guy then ran behind 1424 Greenleaf and I think he stashed the gun back there. Also there are still some shell casings on sidewalk. He ran into the trilogy parking lot, hopped into a dark mid-sized car and headed to estes. Called 911 while it was happening and the cops showed up fast, heading northeast, around six cars.

Craig, refer to your blog post of September 28, 2010, about 100 people being arrested in a drug "sting".

Just as I feared, all hell has broken loose following the sting, and I very strongly feel that it owes to that sting. The arrest of 100 people involved in the drug traffic has opened up about that many new vacancies around here, and it looks like we're in the middle of a three-way war over drug turf just like the one now taking place in Uptown in the vicinity of Wilson and Broadway.

We are never going to win the War on Drugs. Never. But we're never going to develop a sensible drug policy, either. So the only way to deal with this violence is to drive out the people who generate it and the people who shelter them, and start riding herd on the property owners who harbor these people.

As usual, we have heard NOTHING from our alderman's office regarding the escalation of shootings and gang violence around here.

Ok, that makes sense NorthCoast,
but most of that sting operation was over stuff happening in evanston.

That Ramy Foods was a drug front,
its closed now.
It was a ratty little store on simpson by dodge.

So I think that the sting operation is one factor, the morse streetscape and general improvement of morse is another, bad blood for years between gangs another.

The stuff in Evanston is very closely related to the stuff going on here.

Yes, there is "bad blood" between these gangs, but the main issue is drug turf.

And the other issue is the origins of these gangs. As long as we have these concentrations of bad housing, filled with gangbangers and the families that produce them, we will have major problems in this neighborhood.

It worries me, because the area has improved greatly in the past decade. I'd hate to see that improvement reverse.

Good posts everyone, thanks for the info regarding the Gang War.

North Coast, you are right, I'd hate to see any reversal from the last 10 years of progress.

I don't think we'll lose this battle, but we can't give up.

The area has come a long way, and we just have to find out how to progress further into the future.

What houses or buildings are the biggest suspect in the area?

@Jiminy Junk
With all due respect, the problem is not houses or buildings. The problem is that we have far too many ghetto-turds living in or visiting this neighborhood. When the ghetto-turd population reaches a certain level, this is the result. Remove the ghetto-turds and I guarantee the problems will disappear.

Chipp Bag, removing the "turds" is what cleaning up bad buildings is all about. Skanky buildings shelter the people you don't want living in your neighborhood- the gangboys and their baby mammas and girlfriends and moms and "business" associates.

That's how you remove them- go after the landlords who harbor them. It's called Harboring Criminal Activity and Neighborhood Endangerment.
