Man shot, but where? (Update)

A 25-year-old man told police he was shot while pumping gas this morning at a West Rogers Park service station -- but videotapes at the gas station don't seem to show anyone being injured there, a station manager said.
The man walked into St. Francis Hospital in Evanston about 3:45 a.m. and said he had been shot at a gas station at Touhy and Western avenues about 10 minutes earlier, a Rogers Park watch commander said, citing a preliminary report. More here.
We're getting reports in the comments section of a wild shoot-out this morning around 4:20AM at Morse &  Greenview - Farwell & Greenview - and Farwell & Glenwood.

A person on Morse who deals with the gangs says there is a turf-war between the GD's on Howard, and the GD's on Morse. I'm guessing a Kevlar vest should be in fashion this summer.

Update - 11:43AM: Scanner reports say shots fired this morning at 7130 North Western, at 3:36AM. Shots fired in the 2100 block of Pratt, at 3:37AM. Shots fired 4:07AM in the 1700 block of Greenleaf. Officer reports car window shot out on Juneway.

This all could have been avoided if Jeffo bothered to pick up more trash

Haha matt.

But I have noticed that there is a persistence of litter at Morse and Greenview and Farwell and Greenview. So I do my part. I pick it up. Its better than before.

My guess is that Matt was waiting to use this one.

There is more litter at the north side of Greenview and Morse, Because I pick up the south side. So using my flawless logic it must have occured on the northside of the street.....

Though the shenanigans occuring around greenview from farwell to morse dont surprise me, I called 911 a few days ago because when I was driving around I saw some kids up to no good.

And matt, there is no reason to let them (gangbangers) feel at home. If they want to shoot each other over pristine clean territory thats fine, but strange.

Garbage strewn streets and sidewalks comfort them. I want them to feel no comfort

And another thing, is jeffo the only person that is able to pickup trash? I dont have a license matt, anyone can do it.

People are getting shot left and right - and you two are bitching about rubbish.

The trash and the shootings are linked, maybe.

Trash and litter and blighted buildings convey the impression that the denizens don't care about their neighborhood and that anything goes. Dirty streets and unkempt properties invite crime.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

Yes, thats my point, thanks North Coast. Some people have a defeatist attitude. To say one is a direct causual link to another is ofcourse ridiculous.

People do not shoot at each other because the trash and litter on the street has put them into a homicidal trance. Yea or Nay?

I will continue with my quest for a litter free heart of rogers park, especially Greenview.

Wayne appears to be much less gangcentric of a location, thank God. But Greenview is another matter, up from Farwell to Estes, its where the hoodlums are lurking and still moving over towards Glenwood. Lets keep the pressure on the gangs, and keep it clean.
The litter is evidence of their loitering and their desire to hold those streets.

Its not on Farwell as much

So, starting tomorrow, lets everyone pledge to pick up some trash - even if it's only a little bit.

Worse, trash and litter and an air of general neglect repel the people you want in your neighborhood, with the result that respectable people flee the place.

When your good people leave, desperate landlords rent to anyone who shows up with a month's deposit or a rent voucher, so you have an influx of lowlifes who bring crime and fear, and a vicious downward cycle is now in motion, which is very difficult to arrest or reverse as we have seen.

I am so sick of these Gangs Bangers pulling this shit in OUR hood!

This isn't their neighborhood, they don't pay property tax...they don't vote...they simply don't care.

I try to pick up as much trash too, and Jeffo, thanks for all your efforts.

I think people need to bombard Joe Moore with emails or phone calls, put pressure on him regarding this real Terrorism.

Gang Bangers are the Terrorist folks, don't worry about the muslims...worry about the Gang Bangers.

Is the annual spring clean coming up soon, does anyone know?

Well, im not an alarmist, I think Rogers Park is improving every single year. I just want people to do what they can to curtail the bangers efforts to try to reestablish/continue their bullshit here.

The 16 unit apt building across from me on farwell by wayne has improved immeasurably. Its the 8 above 8 motel looking building.

The Wayne/Farwell corner has been a quiet one so far, people with dogs talking to each other and regular folks walking by without trepidation.

My next major project when I have the energy and time is to focus on the old synagogue site again on Pratt.

Pratt is a key street to keep up appearances on. I picked it up a bit by wayne and glenwood. That 8 above 8 on Pratt is still looking drab and unkempt. The psych folks werent super happy with me picking up their cigarette packs yesterday but hey psych folks shouldnt be littering either.

Jeffo, I live across the street from the old synagogue site on Pratt and am disgusted with its appearance.

I have my dreams of how it could be developed, but of course I don't begin to have the money to do it. It will be many long years before there is any impetus to develop the site, and nobody wants to even buy it right now, so we have a while to think about how we'd like that site developed.

In the meantime, we need to do something with it. With the owner's permission, perhaps we could "borrow" the lot for a while for a raised bed community garden like the one by the Devon Hardware store. This would be a way to get this eyesore in decent condition until someone wants to develop it, with it being made clear to the gardeners that they do not have permanent ownership of their little plots.

Yeah, I assessed the condition of the synagogue site, not so great, but not impossible to shape up a bit. I did pick up a litte, it was raining so I didnt pick up a ton.

Some brush needs to be sawed up. But not too much.

Atleast with some vigilance it can be kept litter and brush free. The House next door has alot of spillover litter in the front yard, probably old folks there who cant pick it up.

Well I picked up some trash today on Devon across from Devon Market, was easy, a women was waiting for bus, oblivious to it. Easy, bend down grab, deposit. Little less, but there is so much - why don't people get it - don't just throw stuff down? If you see somebody doing it point it out,"Hey, Litter Bug" I've done it, bring it to attention when ever you witness. Little actions on a daily basis.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

Good job Cindy!, for short stints of picking up litter a nifty nabber works well too.

Its a weird reaching tool, but if you dont pick up tons of litter it works well, it will save your back!

People will think your weird using it, but nonchalantly and being business like picking up litter is a bold statement.

Philip McGregor Rogers said...

Also why am I so passionate about picking up trash?

Most of Chicago is not litter filled, even ho hum blah so so areas arent litter filled.

Its about pride in where you live.
And it also about saying loud and clear that people care and this is not good place for you to buy or sell drugs.....
