This story is for the Edgewater readers of the Broken Heart. A male was shot tonight in the 5200 block of North Winthrop. Multiple 911 calls started coming in around 8:03 p.m.
Neighbors calling in heard 4 to 6 shots.
One caller said six kids were carrying a male bleeding from the leg west on Berwyn, towards the CTA Red line. One caller said a male offender was seen with a gun running south on Winthrop wearing jeans and a black hoodie.
Police found bullet holes in a vehicle parked at 5230 North Winthrop.
Around 8:36 p.m., Swedish Covenant Hospital Emergency Room at 5145 North California called police saying a male had shown up in a cab with bullet wounds to both legs - claiming he was shot at Balmoral and Washtenaw. Police didn't have any calls for shots fired on that corner.
UPDATE - 9:26 p.m.: Now we're getting a person shot at 5100 North Winthrop.
Hold on.... Make that two people shot. Police are saying another person just got shot at Foster and Winthrop. Police are chasing the suspects, they got one in custody who had a gun. Police are taking one victim to Illinois Masonic. EMS is taking another. Police are giving two shooting addresses, 5020 North Winthrop and 5040 North Winthrop.
UPDATE - 9:37 p.m.: Oh, my. Now we've got a third person shot in the last 10 minutes. This time at Argyle and Sheridan. Police say the address is 1040 West Argyle. Person hit in the leg and back.
A real mess tonight in Edgewater. Be careful. Police have warned officers of a possible retaliation.
NEWS AFFAIRS UPDATE: A 46-year-old male, Aswell Selmon, was shot in the thigh, abdomen and buttocks, and later died at the hospital, police said. He lived in the building where he was murdered in front of. A 32-year-old man was shot in the knee and ankle, police said. The third man, 29, was shot in the knee, abdomen and shoulder. No motive was given.
BLOGNOTES: I'm wondering if the mainstream media has swept the 8:03 p.m. shooting under the rug after all the chaos starting at 9:26 p.m. That one must've not counted - seeing he got to the hospital on his own accord.
An attempt to contact Alderman Osterman (D-48) went unanswered at this time. He still must be hiding under the kitchen table?

I think they are really cracking down on loitering around there and the thugs are at loose ends. Good coverage. Us RogersParkers have to know about this violence because it can spill northward and sometimes we do venture out of the neighborhood from time to time (on special occasions).
I think I'm safe at home. I won't go near any windows tonight. Maybe I'll sleep on the floor.
Thanks, Rahm. Thanks, Garry. Thanks, Liberal Progressive Assholes.
Thanks, NRA lobby and everyone else who's dead set against any curbs on firearm sales.
The police around Argyle/Winthrop have been EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE... it seems just getting anybody they can for even their tone of voice. That area has felt very tense lately.
God bless the NRA, you stupid motherfucking communist. And God bless the 2nd Amendment which gives us the right and duty to protect our property and freedom from leftist shit like you and all the other marxist gun-grabbers.
I loathe little leftist creeps like you and everything you say you stand for.
God bless the U.S.S.A.

Dear Neighbor,
Last night two separate shootings occurred in our community. On the 5200 block of Winthrop, around 8:15pm, a victim was shot in what is believed to be a drug-related crime. A second and unrelated shooting occurred around 9:25pm on the 5000 block on Winthrop. This incident was gang-related and 3 individuals were shot, 1 fatally.
Chicago Police have two individuals in custody related to the second shooting and the guns have been recovered. Both shootings are under investigation and additional police units have been assigned to patrol our community.
My office will provide more information on these shootings on Monday. If anyone has information related to the crimes please email my office at Harry@48thward.org or call the Area North violent crimes unit at 312-744-8261. I want to thank the community members who called the police last night upon hearing gunshots and the police for responding so quickly.
Sincerely,
Harry Osterman
Alderman, 48th Ward
Chip, you're best friends wouldn't tell you but your lack of intelligence and civility is showing.
