Broken Heart Night Before Christmas past

Twas the night before Christmas, and in Rogers Park
The scandals were brewing, the streets were all dark.
DevCorp was failing and this we could see,
As troubles arose at the RPCC.

The bloggers were blogging expressing concern,
But connected developers have money to burn.

The powers that be tell us all here is well,
But some people say Morse Avenue's hell.

Then out on the street there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my PC to see what was the matter.
A car full of gangbangers playing loud rap,
But a squad was nearby - put an end to that crap.

The moon on the breast of the now-melted snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to the litter below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a guy with a camera and a phone to his ear.
With a sweatshirt displaying a sad broken heart,
I knew in a moment it must be Craig Gernhardt.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Jeff-O, Now Nico, Sick Nicki and Hugh!
Now Pamela, Toni and yeah all of you!

From corrupt politicians to the gangbangers' pall,
Dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As the bangers were cuffed on the hood of their car,
To the north I could see a new bright shining star.

It lit Morse Avenue with a beautiful glow,
And it gave me fresh hope for the Morse Hell Hole.

Before I could notice, Craig was gone out of sight,
With more pictures to take and more stories to write.

But I heard him exclaim, through the dark of the night
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Ah yes. Christmas Eve on Morse Avenue.
On my way to and from the Morse Fresh Market at about 5:30 PM, there was Gidget Green in front of the Morse Avenue Red Line station wishing all passers-by a Merry Christmas. And a Merry Christmas to you too, Gidget. God Bless Us, Every One!
