People of the Year: Mary Ann Cullerton and Colm Treacy

Mary Ann and Colm in the kitchen, getting ready for the New Years Eve dinner crowd
Who would've ever thought Morse and Glenwood would become such an attraction for entertainment and nightlife? Well, these two people did. Mary Ann Cullerton and Colm Treacy have sunk their blood, sweat and tears into making Glenwood and Morse stand out as a place for people to come and eat and drink.

And feel safe doing it.

At the beginning of the year Colm took over Duke's and transformed it to a place called Sidecar. Not well received by the locals who visited Duke's, Treacy kept plugging away and now Sidecar has built it's own name and happy customers.

The tougher of the two places is the MorseL, which was formerly a Dollar Store. Yes, I ripped them for permit's and not opening when they said they were going to, but they proved me wrong and built a wonderful space. Business is slowly picking up.

While they don't have the deepest pockets in the world like our readers choice in Mr. Pritzker, they've got a lot of heart. Plus, they are both hands-on when it comes to their establishments. In the last year these two have added to the Glenwood Bar's theme of having a good time and enjoying yourself.

Seriously, the kicker in my decision was when they went to court for court advocacy a month ago. They proved to me, beyond a shadow of a doubt, their investment in the neighborhood. While there is miles to go in improving CAPS beat 2431, these two business owners have earned my respect.

With that, I'm proud to announce Mary Ann Cullerton and Colm Treacy, the "People of the Year" for 2012.

Great picture Craig.

People shouldn't hold grudges.
Some people refuse to let go of them.
This is in regards to the wonderful turkish gentleman who is here fighting for peace from Canada. How and why did he find his way down here?

Given the fact when people see me with my camera they usually run or hide, Colm and Mary Ann understand exactly what I do as a hyper-local blogger.

They hold no grudges and accept the fact I will call people on the carpet when needed.

I can also admit when I've misjudged someone. I felt it was my duty to correct that. These two really do care about the future of Rogers Park. Hat's off to them.

I too wish them luck in all of their investments. These people are salt-of-the-earth. Now all we need to do is make sure Gidget doesn't sabotage their future hanging with her harem on Morse avenue. Sigh!!! Her stinky ass needs to go!

Yeah!!!
High praise for these small business people who put their own time sweat and blood into making a go of it. And on Morse Avenue to boot!
Best of luck to them and to those who own and operate....
Chuckies, Hira's Cafe, Los Portales, The Grill Inn.
God bless free market capitalism.
God bless the U.S.S.A.

Is it true that Colm's car windsheild and tires are repeatedly smashed/slashed? I wonder Why? Who?

That does suck. I'll look into it.
