This morning at 6 am, the 1400 block of West Morse Avenue was blocked off to traffic and empty of any Open Air Drug Market Salesman. The yellow police tape was everywhere and didn't stop at the street.

What happened?

I asked the CTA employee inside the station what was going on and she said that she couldn't comment on the investigation.

I wanted to congratulate and commend you on your fabulous blog site...maybe the cops have been looking at your site and decided to set up an operation to bust these disgusting, low-lives who sell drugs, drink, break glass on the sidewalks and streets, and any number of other low-brow things. At least, let's hope so.

That flower shop in the background doesn't look to have any special Windows. It looks normal with the gang proof, security gates.

I asked two officers on the scene what had happened, they told me to call the 24th. I called the 24th, got transfered to the CAPS answering machine, I left a message and haven't heard back from anyone yet.

From the maze of police tape everywhere and the investigation being underway and no-one commenting as of yet, must only mean it was something minor.

Seeing police tape was also in The Morse Ave CTA EL Stop, I checked with CAPS Beat 2431 facilitator, Kevin O'Neil. He is a reporter for the CTA Tattler. Other than reading about a guy with a mohawk, who was riding the EL this morning, I found nothing about what Kevin should really be focused on, crime in Beat 2431 !!!

Having the CPD roam the hood after something happens is common. Why not try what Craig and other's have asked for, beat cops on foot, walking the streets, all day and all nite.

From the abc7 web page:

Shots fired just steps from CTA Red Line stop

January 6, 2005 — Two men and a police officer were injured in a shooting just outside a CTA Red Line station on the city's North Side this morning.
The shooting occurred around 5 a.m. at the Morse stop. Police say the two men were shot and the officer was injured while slipping on the snow during a police chase. Officials said the shots were not fired by police.

No CTA passengers were injured. The conditions of the victims are not known.

One day after the gang shooting I witnessed 2 drug dealers on the corner of Morse And Glenwood. No police anywhere. I called 911.

Craig,
You've done a great job with the photos.
I had no idea about Morse and how bad things are there.
Keep the news coming

craig - don't get the runaround from the cops. the police department always has someone on hand in their PR department to answer all press inquiries. generally, police are not allowed to comment unless the chain of command permits it. they will just run you in circles.
