What is your point? Rogers Park is a neighborhood with in the City of Chicago, not just an idea and certainly not a bubble.
Tell us what you want Craig.
>Rogers Park is a neighborhood with in the City of Chicago ... not a bubble.
This is a version of an argument often advanced by over-development apologists: the "invisible hand" theory. They would have us believe that the tear-down mania in our neighborhood is the inevitable result of market forces, beyond human control.
Make no mistake about it, most if not all of the tear-downs in our neighborhood can be accounted for by a handful of insiders, all with close ties to the Alderman. Our city's zoning laws belong to ALL of us, not just to the Alderman and his pals. The future of our neighborhood is well within our control if the will is there.
Well why don't you start a not-for profit Development Corp for yourself with the mission being to save all the poorly managed and poorly maintained single family homes that you can. I'd love to see how well you fair against "Market Forces"
Maybe you like seeing crappy homes rotting in the hood. That way when those strange people from outside the bubble come to our neck of the woods, they won't like what they see and will be frightened away. Kinda like the intellectual equvilent of gansters on Morse littering on purpose.
Talk about status quo. Sounds regressive not progressive to me.
Please tell us what you want!!!
Being Grumpy won't save anything.....trust me I've tried and accomplished very little with that attitude.
Best of luck to ya, and please respond with really big words and theories you read about.
xoxo
Let's try this, be up front, be honest, tell the truth... that's all.
Alderman Moore, say to the community, North of Howard we are keeping the cluster effect of lower income housholds, and south of Howard we are tearing down homes and building multi-unit, high end condos.
Tell the truth Alderman Moore, parking is still a problem with every new development built.
Also, be honest, say I took this much money from this developer.
Be up front Alderman Moore, say I am looking into the expansion of Lake Shore Drive.
Just be up front and honest, that's all.
Oh and Alderman Moore, be honest with the community, tell everyone you are giving everything south of Pratt and east of Glenwood to Loyola University .
"Balanced Development" means the Bach house can stay.

Your message of disempowerment which you so enthusiastically espouse to your neighbors on this blog is the same message Joe Moore had for us when he made his paid appearance at his info-mercial for Golovan developers. "There's nothing we can do about this project," he repeated over and over to incredulous neighbors. Apparently he gets so caught up in enjoying his role as real estate development promoter that he forgets he is a legislator.
