* 3rd Annual Bow-wow Beach Bash
In memory of Deidre (dede). 12/97-12/04. She loved the beach bash.
On Saturday, June 25, 2005, the City of Chicago Commission on Animal Care and Control (ACC) and the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control kick off the beginning of summer with the 3rd Annual "Bow-wow Beach Bash" at the city's only dog friendly beach at the north end of Montrose Beach (Wilson Ave., 4600 North and Lake Michigan) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There will be music, dog & human food and refreshments, fun dog activities, animal-related vendors, raffle prizes and low-cost microchips for dogs for only $15.00!
Galloping Gormutts will feature the world's largest dog cake!
Additionally, Chicago Animal Care and Control and other animal welfare groups will have dogs on-site for adoption!
"Chicago is proud to host the 3rd Annual Bow-wow Beach Bash," said Mayor Richard M. Daley. "We are happy to provide Chicago dog lovers a place to recreate with their dogs."
A $5.00 donation is requested to participate in the Bash. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the City of Chicago Animal Care and Control in their compassionate efforts to provide care and find homes for rescued and unwanted animals in the city's custody, educate the public on humane & responsible guardianship, care and treatment of animals, and advocate humane treatment of all animals in the city of Chicago.
Chicago Animal Care and Control's shelter operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The shelter provides veterinary care, fresh food, clean water and shelter to more than 26,000 lost, stray, injured, abused, sick and unwanted animals — more than any other shelter or adoption facility in the Chicago metropolitan area. Because so many adoptable pets come to Chicago Animal Care and Control each day, it is a continuous challenge to find homes for the pets and save them from euthanization.
"We invite Chicago dog lovers to join us in celebrating the wonderful bond between humans and dogs," said Anne Kent Executive Director of ACC."We also want to increase public awareness of the opportunity to adopt animals through the City in hopes of reducing the amount of unwanted and homeless animals in Chicago".
