I have been included on this email list, so please do not take offense if I speak for myself on the matters at hand:
At the meeting, I stated that Ald. Moore was aware of the project and had asked for a north side meeting. If it has not yet been made clear, Ald. Moore has been shown the same proposals shown to the general public, but was not involved in their production.
The first community meeting was held on the central lakefront at Northerly Island. The second community meeting was held at the South Shore Cultural Center. Most of the ideas presented are on the south lakefront, and this seemed an appropriate venue. The third community meeting, with additional refinement of content, was to be held on the north side. However, the Alderman requested that we conduct a repeat of the second community meeting on the north side before progressing. I stated openly that a repeat of the second community meeting was in the making, at the prior request of the Alderman, and was targeted for October 20th at Loyola Park.
This meeting has been confirmed.
This project has been in the press several times, and information can be found on the parks and facilities section of the at the Park District web site.
The referendum in Rogers Park was well publicized, and we've been well aware of it's content since before its adoption. The project is responding to a wide variety of suggestions and prior design reports from various community organizations. At this early stage, we are attempting to be as inclusive as possible, and look forward to a productive discussion of all ideas. Harbors are the focus of this project, but discussion of overall lakefront enhancement is appropriate.
Park District web site information also includes a list of civic organizations on the working group who are helping to guide the community planning process and reach the larger public. I encourage you to contact these organizations for clarification of project scope, intent, and progress. Groups include the Chicago Parks and Open Space Committee, Jackson Park Advisory Council, Grant Park Advisory Council, Lincoln Park Advisory Council, Chicago Yachting Association, Friends of the Marine Community, Friends of the Parks, Alliance for the Great Lakes (formerly Lake Michigan Federation), Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, and the Chicago Central Area Committee.
Sincerely,
