There are several semi trailers on the south side that are going to Mississippi and Louisiana as soon as they are filled with water, food, diapers and paper products.
Rogers Park residents sent almost a thousand dollars in supplies this morning, and tomorrow we're going back. If anyone wants to contribute, leave some cash at Ennui in the bucket there, or come by the Red Line Tap tonight (tuesday). A GREAT band is playing, so you can hear music and throw cash in the bucket! We are taking the money and purchasing supplies at Costco, then delivering them in a caravan.
There are over three hundred families coming to Chicago in the next few days. They will also need help, but anything we donate now is going be sent to the south on Friday or Saturday with a police escort courtesy of the Village of Harvey, as we were promised by the Mayor there.
It is a priviledge to work with these people. I met their Village Attorney, Bettie Lewis, as she walked the on-ramp at 147th Street collecting cash from cars.
They are using all their resources, Fire and Police included, for this effort. These goods are going to reach real people, real fast, so if that notion appeals to you, help us out.
