Nico and I loved Thomas' suggestion, therefore we have decided to sponser A BIG PRIZE for the 1st annual Rogers Park holiday plastic tree decorating contest.
Here are the rules:
* Pick a plastic tree around the Morse avenue El or elsewhere on the street in Rogers Park. Organic trees are not allowed.
* Decorate it with whatever you wish to express your vision of the holiday season. Creativity is encouraged, but please, don't use anything flammable, or that will decompose - remember, rats...
* Tree must be decorated no later than 12/25 to be eligible.
Take a photo of it, and send with your name or alias, the title of the tree, and your contact information no later than 12/28/05 to:
rrouilly@earthlink.net ( You must also include a brief "decorators statement" )
The winner will have their choice of one of our FABULOUS GRAND PRIZES:
Dinner for two at the FABULOUS La Cazuela Mariscos
OR
Breakfast for four at the WORLD FAMOUS Heartland Cafe
OR
An ALLURING frangrance of your choice from Fragrance Island
OR
A FESTIVE half pint of your choice from Soo's Liquor
OR
A SOULWARMING homemade pecan pie, personally made by Nico's Mom (All butter crust)
YOUR CHOICE!!!!
If Craig is willing to host the photos ( I am ) of the decorated trees on this blog.
Judging will be performed by Nico, Nico's mom and Walter Gibson esq. We wish to announce the winner by 1/31/2005. Any future commisions obtained from the Tate Gallery will be split 50/50 between the tree decorator and Nico.
blogmaster footnote: As you can see, the bent tree in front of the mostly closed coffee shop is already started and will be in this competition as a exhibition tree only. If the Hell Hole wins, I will donate my prize to Melody the dog walker. Just kidding.

Comments from the peanut gallery will have A LOT of influence over your distinguished judges (Nico, Captain Walter Gibson, and myself...)
So, lobby hard for your favorites!
BTW - our definition of "tree" is extremely flexible...if it's vertical, can appear on the streets of RP, and can't grow leaves in the summer, you can use it.
One more note...
If you want to do a tree, but don't have a camera, let the judges know, and we'll send someone out to photograph it.
Happy decorating!
This is just too good to be true.
I was thrilled to see that there is now a "mock" Turner Prize - and that Charles Saatchi is now publicly blasting the official Turner prize for "pseudo-controversy"! Curiouser and curiouser...
Anyway, the "mock" Turner stuff looks like pretty stiff competition, so it's a good challenge for all you RP artists and "mock" artists...
ismathsin, I hope you are planning to do something extra special since it's clear you have been loitering around the precincts of various art schools for some time...
BTW - if pecan pie doesn't appeal to the winner, I will consider doing a pumpkin, sweet potato, or apple instead...
