This is a bit out of our area but Sonny Hersh sent this community warning to the Hell Hole. Clearly he felt this was "Broken Heart" material. Everyone who is anyone knows someone who has talked with Sonny in front of his camera at one time or another. His show is the Wayne's World ( without Garth ) about politics for the Chicagoland area. For those who don't know Sonny, he is a 24th district CAPS webmaster and All things technical for North Town News Magazine, the cable TV Show on CAN-TV.

OMG Craig, you mean to tell me the CPD didn't list the heritage of the victim? They're going to have H* to pay for that.
Seriously, thanks for posting this alert. People can sign up on the police website for their district and get the latest.

Paradise, I take your point, and I agree that it is naive to assume that violent crimes such as this are limited to any certain city neighborhoods, I don't think that anyone on this blog has said "why can't we have a crime rate like Bucktown's". Be careful about relying too much on short term comparative stats between beats - they may not be the most reliable or meaningful thing to pay attention to. The stat that is most meaningful to me is the long term trend within the entirety of RP, the next most meaningful stat is the comparative allocation of police resources, and lastly, a long term comparison of ward trends. In other words, I care more about whether things were better in ALL crime categories in my neighborhood this year than last year, two years ago etc. I care about what kind of policing is taking place, whether we are getting our fair share of police budget, the competence and dedication of the commander and everyone working for him, and whether the mix of officers is reflective of and sensitive to the ethno-socio-cultural mix in RP. I don't really care so much whether our stats are better than Bucktown's, even though it can be rather seductive to think in those grass is greener terms.
Given that a young woman was recently abducted in RP (and released before the worst kind of harm could come to her, thank goodness), I think this information is relevant, even if it didn't happen here. I guess I don't really hold out much hope that anyone will identify this guy from a police drawing, but if it makes people more aware of their personal safety on the streets, then it has served a useful purpose. The best idea that came out of the abduction in RP was to organize some citizen self-defense training, so that people can acquire skills to help them avoid and defuse risky situations.
