* Man Dies in CAPS Beat 2431

A 50 year old man with health issues died in the hospital after being beating by unknown youths at 1522 West Morse Avenue on Febuary 10th around 11 pm. Other than being beaten to a pulp, no reason was given for the beating the man.

A Ceasefire party was ealier that evening and witnesses say the streets were filled with youths. The seniors at the 1528 West Morse building wondered where the police were when this happened.

The police investigation is on-going and this beating has not been ruled a homicide at this time.

Thanks for reporting this story, as sad as it may be. People need to be made aware that these things are occurring.

A Ceasefire party? This is so disturbing on so many levels. If I may ask, how did you get this info? thanks.........

If a man was beat to death, why is it not a homicide? And why is everyone getting upset about parking when a man was beaten to death a few blocks away?

Does anyone know more about this crime/ Who the man was? I didn't hear/read anything in the news

Thanks for the clarification. However, the explanation of Ceasefire's involvement is now even more perplexing. Who throws a party expecting that violence may occur? Since when has Ceasefire replaced the CPD? I just don't get why a host organization would plan an event knowing that there might be violence and that the best way to avoid it is by inviting Ceasfire.

Wouldn't it just be more logical not to host the event?

Ceasefire a "local community organization"? "Extra adults to help with supervision"?

Sorry, but I disagree with your description. These paid employess of CeaseFire are 'former' gangbangers and who mediate disputes between 'current' gangbangers/drug dealers.

If some people want to have an event for teenagers, that's wonderful. There needs to be more of that type of activity. But what responsible organization would host an event for teens expecting that violence might occur?

And why would they hire 'reformed' gangbangers for security?

What organization actually hosted this party?

The only statistic that is important here is that CeaseFire was involved in some kind of event the same night that a man was beaten and subsequently died. Not an impressive statistic.

CeaseFire was hired at some event involving youth. Fact. Man in area gets beaten and later dies. Fact. CeaseFire and ONE hold a prayer vigil for the deceased. Fact. CAPS holds a vigil. Fact.

Is there some reason that ONE chooses to ally themselves with CeaseFire rather than CAPS?
