* Pizza Joint Owner Ignores Rules and Leadership

One year ago today, this was a Morse Hell Hole hot button topic. This 11 year problem has spilled over to a 12th year without any hope of fixing itself under the current leadership of Alderman Moore and DevCorp North.

Last night at the CAPS 2431 meeting, Morseland Night Club owner Gregory Altman complained that the double and triple parking at JB Albertos is ruining his "quality of life." Holding onto his head with his hands as if his head was going to explode, Altman wondered how many years his "quality of life" problem issue would continue? He wasn't alone. Almost everyone spoke up, including DevCorp North's Rene Carmego, turning this into the key problem solving issue for CAPS Beat 2431 meeting last night.

Seems the owner of the pizza joint doesn't care what anyone thinks, including the police department, DevCorp North and Alderman Moore, as indicated in the 1994 letter the Alderman wrote to the owner.

The pizza joint owner just keeps on having his driver double and triple park in the 1300 of West Morse Avenue. Word at the meeting was, "as long as he isn't paying the parking tickets, parking tickets being issues to his drivers doesn't bother him".

Group problem solving solutions to the double and triple parking issue at the pizza joint included:

* Taking away his Loading Zone.

* Having City inspectors give his business the full inspection.

* Having the owners business license taken away.

* Flooding the pizza joint with phone calls during heavy ordering hours to tie up the phone lines complaining of the parking problem so they can't take pizza orders.

* A ward-wide boycott of his pizza joint.

If anyone has ever smelled the old grease drums that get hauled away from this place, they would never order a pizza at this joint and we wouldn't have this problem.

It's not as though this business has no option for his 'fleet' of delivery vehicles. There is ample room in the rear of his business for his delivery drivers to park and pick up orders. I have NEVER understood how or why this double & triple parking has been allowed to go on for years.

I have been eating JB's/Albertos pizza for as long as I can remember, as a 30 year resident of Rogers Park. Yes, they double park, but to drive them out of business??? If tickets are being given then what more do you want? I know this blog tackles many issues, but this is like O'Reilly complaining about the ACLU all the time. Pick a better/more important topic to whine about. If I hear that they are getting harassed, I think the bloggers here will get some harassing too!!! This is a minor problem that is associated with a SUCCESSFUL LOCAL BUSINESS!!!!

The blocking of the public way (street) as these folks do, is just as illegal as what the 'drug' dealers down the street are doing. We should give them (the delivery persons) a pass because we like their pizza or because they are a good business for the community? They should abide by and follow the law like everyone else.

Craig, I think you misread Moore's letter, it was not trying to address a neighborhood issue, it was funds-raising.

J.B. Alberto's Pizza
1324 W. Morse Ave.
$500.00 on 3/3/2003 to Citizens for Joe Moore

Illinois State Board of Elections

Once you find one of these campaign contributions, a issue with a contributor can become very difficult to resolve and drag out for years or decades.

Man Oh Man. Imagine a business that’s lasted 12 years on Morse. You should give that guy a medal. Aren’t there enough empty storefronts? Would you rather see more? Craig you are scrapping the bottom of the barrel here.
And what a juvenile you are. You want people to call and tie up the business phones. Let see, what should they ask. Hmmmm.
“Is you’re refrigerating running, well you better go catch it!”
“Do you have Prince Albert in a can, well you better let him out!”
If that doesn’t work Craig how about leaning a garbage can against his door, ring the door bell and run.
Once again Craig you’re showing your passive aggressive side. If after a year’s time nothing has been done and it still irks you, why haven’t you done something? Now you are fed up again, and you want to damage a guy’s business. Titch Titch.
Need more parking on Morse, its wide enough to support angle parking like some of the streets in Evanston.

There are better ways to solve a problem than juvenile pranks. Most pizzarias have caller ID. Phone harrassment is a crime too ya know.

> Here's the facts...maam: ... I'll take a wild shot (you might say a Cheney-like shot) and guess that they're Morse Ave's #1 tax-revenue generator.

Wild shot?

Guess?

What happened to facts?

Why would you post a wild shot or a guess when you can look it up?

Cook County Treasurer

Are you lazy or just trying to mislead?

How do you know JB's is thriving? From the amount of double-parking you see?

Kill the messenger.

Other than Thomas Westgard and Paradise, I don't know of any of you that were at this meeting.

I did not suggest one of these tactics. Come to the CAPS meeting and find out.

Yes, 500 dollars since 2003. About 1000 days or 50 cents per day. JoMo's really raking it in. ;)

And how will getting rid of the loading zone make it better?

Lordy lordy. It appears that hellhole and most visitors went to sleep last night and woke up in NY Timesland today where massive amounts of real estate are given over to completely nothing news such as the tracking and timeline of the unfortunate Cheney hunting snafu. Meanwhile, people are dying in Darfur. Can we say "priorities" or "perspective"? Now let's all go watch the Westminster Dog show tonight so we can have something really deep to bitch over tomorrow -- like designer dogs and doggie doo doo.

I like JB Albertos for a quick slice with salad when I'm too tired to cook dinner.

My number one peeve with them is their styrofoam containers. People talk BIG issues here- too big for me to solve or tackle- but litter- there is a simple solution: don't litter and pick up the litter you see- I love that kind of problem.
Or rather- I hate it...

The double parking and illegal u-turning is kind of annoying yes. It's like they take over the street. They need to stop being so lazy and get a new plan. But I suppose they've been doing this for years and change takes time. But then, it is time.

I wasn't at CAPs either...

Like EOG I live close by Leona's and have on occasion called the managers to ask them to ask their drivers to keep it down. They have always been extremely responsive. That does seem to be a missing thread from this conversation, how many times someone just approached the owners in person about this stuff...I'm not saying you haven't, but no one has mentioned it here.

I agree that the potential for drink and drive is by far the most disturbing part of this story...especially considering the relatively large numbers of drivers they employ. Perhaps if, as some of you say, the owners are reasonable people, what they could really use is some practical advice figuring out what is surely their biggest HR headache...it's not always intentional; sometimes people just aren't sure how to solve the management problem they are having...

Thanks for posting all the code Tom. I for one appreciated it.
