* Stroger Pollwatcher Accused of Illegally Coaching Voters

From the Forrest Claypool e-mail blast.

That’s the headline on the third page of yesterday's Chicago Sun-Times. It’s very interesting reading, and that’s why we're linking it right here.

It might seem like a rather small incident – one person busted in one nursing home in the suburbs, but it starkly illustrates something we’ve been talking about in these updates for weeks.

The Stroger campaign is desperate to hold on to those high-paying jobs, and they’re willing to send government officials into nursing homes posing as poll-watchers to make sure frail, elderly people vote their way.

The moral of this story is that two of our people, Jason and Misty, witnessed this chicanery first-hand, and the campaign was able to report it to authorities. That’s why we’ve been asking for poll-watchers.

We’ve just completed our poll-watcher training here at the office, and as you can see from the pictures, it was very successful. But even now, it’s not too late. We can still train you and your neighbors if you want to help.

The stakes are now so high it’s almost impossible to describe. The margin’s razor-thin. The Stroger forces have multiplied in the last 24 hours, pushing the sympathy vote. We simply must match their army. There’s no time to lose.

Please volunteer to distribute signs or literature. Please call now at 773-271-9500 or email info@forrestclaypool.com.

Even more importantly, if you have an office with some phones you can volunteer on election day, please get in touch. We’ll match you up with volunteers to make get-out-the vote calls. It’s all about turnout at this point. We will need every last vote.

DO NOT be fooled into thinking that President Stroger’s illness makes it less important for you to vote. The number of people voting Tuesday will go up considerably because of all the media attention, and the Democratic organization is working harder than ever to rally a last-minute Stroger vote.

You simply must vote on Tuesday, and get all your friends to do the same.
