"When foie gras gets banned, only outlaws will have foie gras."

It's official folks. We have a new "officially banned product" from our 49th ward food dictator, Alderman Moore. It's called foie gras. Next thing you know, he will be putting spy cameras in our kitchen?
Thursday Update: Stay tuned, the "Broken Heart" of Rogers Park will be organizing a March and Circle prayer to repel the ban of "fatty liver."
Updated from WASHINGTON DC:
April 26 - U.S. Newswire
The Chicago City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting the sale of foie gras. Foie gras is a "delicacy" made from the diseased, fattened liver created by force-feeding ducks or geese.
Alderman Joe Moore (D-49th Ward) authored and championed the animal welfare bill. According to Alderman Moore, "We in the Chicago City Council can do our part to discourage this barbaric agricultural practice by outlawing its sale within our city. The fewer restaurants that serve this product of animal torture, the fewer animals who will be subject to this unspeakable cruelty."

In protest, I am going to order some foie gras from www.deananddeluca.com, and then I am going to take it to Poitin Stil, located across from Joey's office, and eat it and share with my hell hole friends. Details of invite to follow. hahahaha. I can still BUY and consume all the bleeping foie gras my heart desires. Maybe we could start a new gang of foie gras outlaws.
I can also go to Evanston to get my foie gras (Whole Foods carries it). Not only does Chicago lose my foie gras dollars, the city loses on the sales tax. Which, I suppose, is the way of saying bleep you Chicago politicos twice.
So we're not allowed to smoke. Not allowed to eat foie gras. But you know what we can do? We can form a gang, get guns, and sell drugs!
Janice -- you can pick up some cheap foie gras at Whole Foods. They usually have little pate packets (and they are tiny) made with foie gras for around $10. Personally, I'm not particularly fond of the stuff but I'm springing for it on principle.
This foie gras mess is as clear an example how out of touch Joe Moore is with the real problems facing the people of the 49th Ward. The question is, what should be done about it?
Perhaps there should be a gathering in front of Moore's ward office where an effigy of Moore, complete perhaps with a dunce cap, should be strung up for the TV news cameras. If someone has a better idea, I would be glad to listen to it.

We seriously need to dump JoMo. What the hell does this issue have to do with running the ward?
To top it off, JoMo is pushing a fair wage law. He's so clueless. Fair Wage laws DECREASE employment, that is INCREASE Unemployment.
In sum, JoMo is concerned with issues that are non-issues and is promoting agendas that will hurt the City and his Ward.
Dump JoMo!
Paradise asked, "How many tiny restaurants and diners that kept a person or two or more, off the unemployment line, have bitten the dust since the smoking ban?"
That's a good question -- how many have?
Reaching into the cooler he’ll exclaim: “Yo yo yo man, check it out! This is the good shit man!”
I’ll reply skeptically: “Yeah right dude. Looks like plain old liverwurst to me. I’ll bet you got it at Dominick’s.”

Good Lord that is funny.
Duck, duck, goose! Our alderman is certainly the latter. This is a classic case of Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Not two weeks ago, I hear shots--yes, shots--from the Morse "L", and all my Alderman wants to do is protect the geese? WTF?!? Where are his priorities? It is evident that he cares more about the geese than his constituients. I'm going to drown my sorrows in a nice Riesling or a Sautern, which go very well with foie gras. It's sad when Mayor Daley makes fun of you for being an idiot. No restaurant in Rogers Park serves Foie Gras, so why should he be involved? I though Joe Moore was ineffective; at best a waste of aldermanic space, but this is the last straw. Goose indeed!
> What I want to know is, why did every other council member line up behind the man known to be the most ineffectual and incompetent alderman in the city?
For months Moore has been making phone calls, dropping by his fellow Alderman's offices, and button-holing them on the floor of the Chamber, and what he wants to talk to them about:
Scheduling hearings on Hired Truck and other contracts and hiring scandals?
School funding?
Safety and crime?
NO! Ducks!
What's REALLY scary is the think about the 49 other outrageous public policies Moore agreed to support.
> What the hell does this issue have to do with running the ward?
I've been struggling to understand the "why" of Moore's attention to the duck's rights issue. I can't beleive it's genuine concern for animal wellfare since my working assumption on Moore is that he has no principles I can discern from a decade and a half of observation. Best I can come up with is that the animal rights-related issue opens the checkbooks of donors from outside the ward, hopefully without unduly alienating too many people inside the ward. The bucks from the PETA crowd are more important to hiim than the few protest votes he might loose. In other words Moore is counting on us laughing this off and not voting on this single issue.
Moore on the radio, defending his attention to duck's rights:
"Just becuase we have other pressing issues doesn't mean we can't take a little time to worry about this."
WRONG WRONG WRONG
Rule #1: You don't work on the C priority items on your list until you have ALL your A's knocked off. That's why they're A's. Taking up a C is a reward to yourself for having your act together.
Moores attention to this issue is a measure of his total lack of accountability.
