Chicago Chefs For Choice; Inviting pate lovers to Allen's - The New American Cafe

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2006--Chicago Chefs for Choice, a chapter of the Illinois Restaurant Association, and friends will be hosting "A Festival of Foie Gras" Tuesday, July 11th from 7:00 p.m - 10:00 p.m. The event will take place at Allen's - The New American Cafe, located at 217 W. Huron, Chicago, IL.

For $150/person, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of foie gras preparations, beverages included. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Chefs For Choice - Freedom of Choice Fund. Corporate table reservations are available for 6, 8 or 10 guests. In April 2006, Chicago's City Council voted to make ours the first city in the country to prohibit the sale of foie gras, the fatty livers of geese and ducks. Many consider this food a delicacy, but animal rights advocates decry it as a product of inhumane treatment. The ordinance, which takes effect July 26, 2006, will be enforced by means of citizen complaints, per Alderman Joe Moore, who sponsored the ban.

These restaurants will quickly become BYOFG, or they'll provide FG as an amuse bouche, thereby avoiding the "sale" aspects of the ordinance. And soon the mob will move in to create a black market ...
