* "Official" Neighborhood Walk Flier


Even though it's not on the "official" CAPS beat 2431 meeting notes, I was the one who volunteered to pass out the fliers for the first CAPS beat 2431 walk of the year tomorrow. Jane the propaganda note taker somehow left this information out of the CAPS notes. The above flier with graphics is the "official" flier I had made. I've been placing them along the homes in CAPS beat 2431. I tried to stay above the fray and make this flier as little political modivated looking as possible. I didn't want to play the blame game why we were marching. I just want people to get together on a Friday night, I want people to stand up to the crime around us and say enough is enough, we want our neighborhood back.

There also is a "un-official" yellow flier posted around the neighborhood asking people to attend the walk too. While I appreciate the help in time of need, I also would like to remind the culprit(s), I get blamed for this stuff. If you want credit, please put your name on it. Or are you afraid?

Blognotes: The yellow flier was placed around the neighborhood by Thomas Westgard and his sidekick Frankie. One clue was the tape. I don't use masking tape, it's too cheap and the fliers fall off the wall quicker.

Now the question is, were these two puppets doing this work on behalf of the newest guy running for 49th ward Alderman or are they seriously concerned for the neighborhoods health? Because truthfully, I've never seen Frank or Thomas at any walk regarding the gooning cases of 2004. I never saw Frank or Thomas at any of the court advocacy hearings or trial of the Herron Brothers in the 2004 gooning cases.

If I didn't know better, I think someone's trying to use this CAPS beat 2431 walk for a campaign rally.

Honestly that flyer cracked me up because it was very non-threatening and looked so -I don't know- wholesome? I liked it, but it was very non-controversial for you :) But then, maybe someone will say something because there were only white people in it.

I suspected the other one was Thomas' because of his post this week.

As if Joey Moore isn't using these issues for political leverage. A safety walk can only turn into a political rally if the people allow it - whether it's for Joey, Jimmy or Donnie. C'mon already, everything is going to get political this year with our incompetent, I mean, incumbent Alderman up for his last election - then on to pension land for Joey.

Both of these flyers are ridiculous. One touts a couple of white folks with their dogs, out for a stroll, carefree and taking care of the 'hood. The other uses scare tactics and a big brother approach to get people involved. Neither approach is very helpful in getting action out of people.

At least with the second one, Westgard is trying to hold Joey accountable for his statements. But no one wants to be accountable, do they?

So what do we do? Hold safety walks, bitch on blogs and then never get out to vote. Jeesh.

Here's some of my suggestions:

1) Why dont you try having an artistic type person paint/draw a "virgin" or other religiously suitable icon on the building. Don't do it all at once but gradually, say over three week's time. Not real visual, but enough that if people stare at it they think they are having a vison. Then put plastic flower's, candles, etc out there and get that vision thing going.

2) Polka music. Walk around nightly with polka music on the boom box. Make sure they're are yodelers.

3) Feed the pigeons. Daily feeding of mass amounts of these digusting birds. Then call the city and complain.

4) You know those: "How's my driving?" signs on trucks, imagine signs saying, "How's my Crack House, call 773-###-#### to compliment or complain"

5) Save every postage paid magazine subscription card you have and fill it out for Mr. Block

6) Call one of those charities that accept property donations and donate it.

7) Advertise Mr. Block on bulletin boards like Craig's list. Looking for man love, etc.

8) Have a neighborhood emergency crisis drill in front of the building one night. Get volunteers to act as victims and volunteer first aid workers.

9) Get a minister and a microphone to preach once a week to the residents of the building, from street level.

10) Arrange an inspection of the building yourself by acting as a prospective tenant to get inside. Once inside ask lots of stupid questions. Comment loudly about code violations. Claim you've just seen a rat. Ask if they have monthly roach treatments. Waste their time, big time.

I will re-post my inconclusive notes toward discerning the slumlord of these two buildings, hoping maybe someone can take it farther than I could, if you will all agree to please STOP CALLING THEM THE BLOCK BUILDINGS. Block is a stooge and every time we refer to these buildings as "the Block Buildings" we help Moore and his pals avoid accountability.

Like to better understand why the problems at these buildings are so dog-goned persistent? Plug some of the names of the people and companies above into the Illinois State Board of Elections web site and all will be revealed.

Finally, the owner, best I can tell.

To maintain your anonymity, you have to keep clean and stay out of court. Even as slumlords try to hide behind trusts, we neighbors occasionally get a peek behind the curtain when a housing court cites an owner.

Plug the 1341-1349 W Lunt PIN (11-32-114-001) into the excellent NewsChicago web site maintained by the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and click on "Housing Court notices."

In November, 2000 an inspection of 1341-1349 W Lunt resulted in citations for several serious problems with the fire escapes and revealed the owners to be:

Street address numbers are easily changed, it's pretty much whatever between the owner and the Post Office agree to (within reason; Kontoyannis probably couldn't call 1342 W morse 1100 W Morse but One Kontoyannis Estates might be possible).

A little more reliable is a Property Index Number (PIN), (but even that changes, for example when a lot is divided of a building goes condo). So I would recommend that we try and post both addresses and PINs when we talk about buildings in our neighborhood.

Here's an excellent online tool for disambiguating properties:

(The Assessor also has Interactive Mapping, but I find City News a little easier to use.)

Plig in an address, click on "Map of this property!", and poke around on the map.

Click on "All Information" or "Tax Information" and you will get a photo courtesy of the Assessor.

1340 W Morse Ave is PIN 11-32-114-014, Mama's Fish owned by KYUNG SIK KWAK, directly east of one of our building of interest.

Maybe the Riders or Steve & Cleo have a pool out back in Niles or Barrington, maybe we can get a group together and meet there and have a dip and talk about what to do next. Or maybe we can pass out little zip-lock bags of rock salt and flyers passing motorists.

The White kid has been identified locally.
Ok a gooning is where my friend gets his ass kicked well technically they got in the first couple of surprise blows then he got in a couple of good licks before the coward gang fled.
