* Shots Fired - Twice this Morning

This morning about 4 a.m. I was awakened by what sounded like four or five shots fired. The sounds were coming from the 1400 block of West Morse Avenue area. This wasn't firecrackers. It was much louder and a more consistent sound - like a gun.

Then again at around 5:10 a.m., three loud shots echoed off the canyon like buildings in my alley. Clearly, these sounded like gun shots coming from Lunt or Morse. This time I woke from the bed and called 911. This being near the time I get up anyhow, I dressed and took my dog for a walk. As I got outside, I was greeted by a Loyola University Campus police officer asking me if I heard shots fired. He was in the 1300 block of West Lunt.

At Eric_S;

I moved into my condo about 4 months ago, and found the blogs afterward. I am not sorry I came and I think that RP can be better than it is, which is still better than it was. Whether or not it improves depends on the community that is here, and those that choose to come here to live. You have to do what is best for you given your circumstances and preferences. Just remember that any community reflects the people who live in it, and their commitment to making it a better place to live. I think RP has that commitment, we just need more of it.

Eric,

We moved into a condo on the 1600 block of Estes in late April. I had previously stumbled upon this blog before moving into the area (from out of state) and was a little concerned as well. After having lived here for 3+ months, I can say that we're thrilled to be here. Sure, there are some sketchy areas (outlined in the comments above) but you can see the change happening in the neighborhood. Our building is great, we have wonderful neighbors and the access to beaches and public transportation can't be beat.

This blog can be a little scary but there's also a lot of good in RP. The businesses opening around the Jarvis stop are like a little oasis and are doing very well, which encourages me in regards to the future.

Just be smart and you shouldn't have any problems.

How will it be on my head? That's a pretty irresponsible thing to say, don't you think?

My wife and I have been living on Farwell for a little over two years. We absolutely love it.

There are some shady spots, but it is getting a lot better. The neighborhood is also ver =y block to block as far as crime.

Once you start to figure out the lay of the land, you tow will love it. THere are lots of great resaurants. You just have to be willing to find where they are and try new things.

Some of the posters on here that blantenly told you to leave just don't want new people moving in to the area. Don't listen to them. RP is full of really good people from all different backgrounds who are all very accepting of each other.

Here are a few of our favorite restaurants:
La Cazuela
Morseland
Rice Tai Cafe
Yuens Chinese Kitchen
Parkside Grill
Capt'n Nemos

No disrespect to Craig but thank God the negativity here didn't sent you away- we need more people like you. There are numerous doom and gloomers commenting here I'm afraid. Mostly my life in RP (and I've lived her for 6 years this time around)is good. My experience is that people watch out for each other here. There are what I would call annoyances- litter, loiterers, derelicts, drug dealers, etc... BUT so many other things are pluses: beautiful architecture, good value in real estate purchases, the lake, the lake access, the neighbors, and on!
