On Monday, the Human Services Mobile van pulled into Loyola Park at Morse Avenue and the lake as I expected it would. At first glance this would have been a good thing, had it not been for public pressure to do something about the homeless situation.
But instead of offering check-ups or hygiene kits from the human services mobile van, the people got this. A yellow card. That's right, the big health care van had no food, no check up equipment, no clothing, just a yellow cards to hand out.
Any help is good help when you don't have anything. But a yellow card?
The person I spoke with said the whole thing was a joke. He explained to me all he wants is a job. If he had a job he could get his own apartment. He could buy his own food. He could get his own clothes. He could go to the doctor of his choice.
With all the tax dollars spent on this big mobile health care van, you would think the city could offer more than a yellow cards. Heck, he didn't even want a yellow card. So, he gave it to me.

Instead of supervising Clean and Green from inside a van, Joe and staff should set up a health tent as they did for the children of Rogers Park.
