* Stealth Condo's Stimulate Alderman Moore's Economy

24 apartment rental units suddenly changed to condos by New City Builders - 6906 North Lakewood Avenue. Then New City Builders generously felt the need to donate $1,500.00 on March 2nd, 2006 as a individual contribution to the citizens for Joe Moore, thus stimulating Alderman Moore's economy.

Let me see builders come in convert apartments to condos, which in itself is ok, but then our aldermen who represents us the people of his ward gets contribuations to him.

I agree condos stimulate joes pockets, joe is a asshole, I wouldn 't be surprised if the feds are keeping one eye on him.

There is a bit of overreaction here. Developers do not need any approvals from the alderman to go forward on condo conversions. The only thing that this payment may buy the developers is possibly less flak from the alderman's office during the actual build-out.

The apartments are already legal units, and besides fixing them up, the developer is only changing the ownership structure of the building.

New constructions, where the developers are looking for variances, is where the real bribery occurs.

Millie, Millie, Millie - I half expect you to mimic Bette Davis and declare: What a dump!"

As to your point:

As no one who has any available options is going to live in Rogers Park and thus there are no legitimate buyers for these "condos" it is clear that sometime of money laundering operation is going on.

I had plenty of options, but RP had what I really wanted - an interesting, well maintained, vintage building that is near the lake and in shouting distance of public transit. RP may not be all that it can be, but I haven't regretted moving here for a minute. So please don't hold your breath waiting for the earth movers to come plow me under. You'll be pushing up daisies long before that happens.
