When city officials say not to worry, I say worry.
From the Sun-Times.....> "Mayor Daley says TIFs are his only economic development tool, and will be put to work in a 49-block area that encompasses the La Salle Street financial district. The area is generally bounded by Randolph, Dearborn, Van Buren and Canal. It has an irregular shape that takes in portions of Lake and Washington, among other streets."
If our so-called, wildly independent Alderman Moore wants to show some real backbone, I say vote ney (No) today on the La Salle TIF. Just say no Alderman Moore. That'll show the Mayor how tough you are on crime.
Updated: There was a Alderman who spoke up today, it wasn't our fearless Alderman Moore.
From the Sun-Times:
"“There is no headline in this budget that reads, `the Department of Criminal Affairs'... There is no line item for a '$40 million Hired Truck scandal'... There is no line item for buddies swiping in for buddies…. There is no line item for phony sick pay,” said Alderman Ed Smith (28th).
“We have…these cheats, connivers and crooks who seem to want to rip off this budget for their own personal gain….And ripping it off causes all of us to look bad…because they’re trying to find a shortcut to glory.”
Daley was stunned and furious about the blind-side attack from Smith. And he made no effort to hide his anger.
“Very good. Make sure you meet the inspector general. He'll be in your office tomorrow morning….
.... We’ll make sure. He’ll be in your office. Thank you,” the mayor said sarcastically.
