* Neighbors Agree - They Never Got Notice of Demolition

How many of you attended this community development meeting? It was held last night. Did you see the Alderman's orange community informational (political) flyer? They were posted sparsely throughout the neighborhood.

No adermanic candidates with fancy websites were there to inform us of community change going on under our nose. Nothing was posted on their websites either.

The incumbent on the orange colored poster was in attendance with his assistant Michael Land, but didn't post any information on his website about this community development meeting.

In a nutshell, it's another single family home that's biting the dust. This one is a sturdy, brick built house - built in 1902. It's being torn down. It's going to be demolished to make room for another hole in the ground with a green mesh fence around it. If you weren't there, here is what you missed.

We're told the five (5) - three bedroom - three bathroom - brick in the front, cinder block in the back, fence along the side - English garden in the middle - 5 parking spaces in the rear - condo project should be completed by June 2007.

The crowd was equally divided on the community project.

One neighbor doesn't want to see it go. She likes the old brick house. But another neighbor does. He doesn't like the vacant, rodent filled - squatter home.

One neighbor wants a fence between the two buildings. He wants to divide the spaces. The other neighbor doesn't want to see a fence between these two buildings. She likes the neighborly look.

These two neighbors live at 1412 West Farwell, right next door. They're also married. Being married and having such huge disagreements on the next door project, Alderman Moore wisely took a pass on which side of the fence to stand.

They weren't informed of the demolition until last night's meeting. They cite poor communication as the problem. They never got their green, legal looking, certified notice in the mail either. The neighbors both agree on that fact.

Drawings available by request.

This brick single-family home in an RT4 zoning district was a sitting duck. This property was carefully by-passed by Moore in his so-called "rezoning" effort of last year. For more information on the problem of leaving single family homes lying around in RT4 districts, please see

Don't expect this property to get back on the tax roles any time soon. The developers took the step of re-classifying the property as vacant land for assessment purposes. I hope you like to look of the green mesh fence.
