Randall - The 'Reader' comments:
Getting the candidates to speak 'open and honestly' is tough during election time. Just yesterday, I wiggled at least 20 words out of all four of them. Total.
So I'm asking the question here today. Could this be true? Randall (which I'm assuming is Randall Sherman, correct me if I'm wrong), our 'better government' guru talking?
Randall says our 20 year, card holding', union electrician running for Alderman, is a fast-buck makin', quality-cutting, house-flipper? Going one step further, Randall says it's, "almost criminal". Randall's seems upset and a bit mad Ben at the Reader, because Ben didn't write about that information. Are you calling James a 'nearly-a-crook' or something?
Randall, please explain - I've always known James to be a fine dog-watcher when I go out of town. My dog only tore up half the place by the time I got back home. Talk about flipping, I flipped out when I saw the disastrous mess. I never knew James had so many talents? If this is true, and James does by chance win, he'll fit in perfectly with all those other - 'almost criminals' already in city council.

People like Randall don't know the first thing about anything.
I have no idea whether any of the candidates flip houses.
House-flipping criminal? Unethical? NO. It's called buying an undervalued asset, sprucing it up, and selling it for market value. This practice wouldn't be nearly as common if real estate agents did their job and helped sellers price their assets at market and condition their property for sale, instead of pricing them below market for a quick sale (and a quick commission).
House-flippers take on an actual risk in buying a home for a quick resale. If someone wasn't willing to pay a higher price, then they would go out of business.
I love it how people in Rogers Park, and other up-and-coming neighborhoods complain about the prices for housing increasing. It's all "affordable housing this and affordable housing that." That tune changes when they actually sell their house/building. I would love to see a post from one person who can honsetly say they sold their property for $50k under market to keep the neighborhood affordable.
Give me a break.
Randall's statement about Jim flipping homes (ethically or not) is simply false. Someone who reads this blog surely has access to the MLS to check it out. This BS is just the product of Joe Moore's propaganda machine - thanks for posting it for Joe in a way we can't attach it to him, Craig.
Well Craig, this is just what the JoMo wants. When you start tearing apart his competitors you do his work for him. At no charge!
Do you really want change?

Don't thank me, thank your blogger twin - The Ginderske campaign's Tomblogger #2. He's teaching me the finer points of blogging.
.
This wasn't me. When I post, I use my full name, as I am obviously not the only person named Randall.
(I wonder if the other guy's mom named him after Dr. Randy Hamilton, a character on the long-gone CBS-TV soap "The Brighter Day," whose character was from what I have been able to learn a chauvinistic shrink.)
I believe Thomas said that it isn't true. I think that Jim has worked as a rehabber, but even IF he's "flipping houses", this is a far cry from displacing low income people by building stealth condos.
I suppose one could make the argument that flipping houses contributes to gentrification, however maybe not so much since rehabbing a house preserves the neighborhood rather than having a tear down and building 6 condos on one lot and charging $300K for them.
But, of course, this may all be a moot point if Jim in fact has never done any of the above. My first question is who is this Randall guy- please identify yourself and tell us where you are coming from. If I were going to speak out against someone, it's only fair to tell us what YOUR values are- not just throw mud balls. And my second response to Randall is where is your evidence? Prove it.
Why do people have to be such slime? I smell a Swift Boat scandal.
Carol J and Paradise seem to have not noticed or read my post, so I'll say it again:
Jim does not, did not, flip houses. I think he owned ONE at ONE time. We did not include a mention of flipping houses in his resume because we didn't think it was necessary to include a list of careers he hasn't had. Since it's evidently a question for some people, Jim has also not worked as a newspaper editor, bank project manager, or city attorney. Here's a list of other careers Jim has not had. Jim's regular, full-time career has been working as a union electrician. He is a 21-year IBEW member. That is his job.
Westgard:
Please provide us with a photgraph of Jim working as an electician in the last 3 years. The photo on the website looks 20 years old.
When's the last time Jim has worked on a power line?
> ... is it really SO HORRIBLE to be a developer?
you're right, of course, it's probably not fair to generalize from Moore's developer pals to all developers
the truth is Jim isn't a house flipper or developer or any thing like that i know personally BECAUSE I WORKED on that job that one job when Jim invested a small amount with about five other dudes and thats probably just because he ran the entire job i wish i had a pic of this cat up to his knees in mud digging this foundation id like to see any of you drama thriving ass holes do one physical week of hard core labor with Jim sincerly yours rp truth ps your pussys
