* Community Activist/Small Business Owner Endorses Gordon

Dear Friends,

If you are like myself, you moved to Rogers Park because it has so much potential. However, under our current leadership, Rogers Park's potential and opportunities for advancement have been ignored. Powered by issues greater than his ward, Joe Moore continues to focus on legislation and leaves a substandard ward to fend for itself.

I moved to the ward in 1998, charmed by the beaches, the tree lined residential streets, reasonable housing/rent costs, the convenient mass transit system, the global mixing pot of culture, race and ethnicity, and the promise of what this neighborhood could be with a little work. I moved here thinking that this was a neighborhood on the move. I was sadly mistaken.

Instead, I witnessed the continued decay of our business corridors, rampant and irresponsible tear down and redevelopment of our residential streets, condo conversion that has resulted in thousands of good, middle class rental units lossed and crime and gang activity at a seeming stand still (despite what is touted at our local CAPS meetings).

If we truly value our neighborhood, is it not time for a change? Do you want a ward office that will immediately respond to your problems? Do you want a neighborhood where you can live, work, dine, shop and recreate without having to get in a car? Do you want to put an end to crime and violence? Are you tired of referring to the diversity that defines our community rather than addressing the diversity that continues to divide us; African American, Latino, Gay, Asain and Eastern European?

If you say yes to any or all of the above questions, I encourage you to vote for Don Gordon. Don is a 25 year homeowner and active member of our community. I have known Don for close to 5 years and have always found him responsive, passionate, committed and accessible. He has been a leading citizen advocate in protecting our lakefront, has worked aggressively to address slumlord housing and crime and is committed to addressing affordable housing, jobs, education and the revitalization our retail corridors.

Don does not wish to be a legislator. Don wants to run a good ward. Don's goal is accountability and transparency of office. Meaning 24/7 hour access to council votes, full accountability and open communication. Is that not what we elect an Alderman to do?

I hope if you have not already made a decision, that you will visit Don's website at www.dongordon.org - and join me in supporting new leadership in the 49th ward.

Please vote!

Sincerely,
Margot Hackett

Yes, one would think certain candidates would spend their energy focusing on winning. If there's an attack, it should be on the incumbent.

But this is RP and there are many strange thinkers here.

Some voters thrive on trash talk or gossip others prefer to look at the incumbents track record. Some of us don't want gossip, we want a new alderman. This is a prime example of ward 49 divisive tactics. Divide and conquor for ???

Again, spinning wheels attacking another candidate.

The personal attacks posted on this blog will be removed like the one comment that was in poor taste Alderman's Intern made.

> Electing someone worse than Joe Moore is the last thing the neighborhood needs.

You claim the needs of the neighborhood are your motivation. If you really believe what you say, isn't the best way to fend off the worst case scenario you outline to work for Joe Moore NOW?

> I will continue to work hard to make Jim Ginderske the runoff candidate

Why wait? You are helping your own worse case scenario come about. Endorse Joe Moore NOW. For the neighborhood.

You are well on your way to becoming the Ralph Naders of the 49th ward.

craig, you have to remember that everything aldermansintern writes is pure sarcasm. I mean, you definately don't want her praise.

She's very amusing and is an equal-opportunity trasher, but she really and truly does her worst on Joe Moore, by mendacious "praise" that is so insulting you're flattered when she attacks you.

I think she's a howl.

North Coast - Apparently you didn't read what aldintern wrote. It was trash and gossip aimed at a non-candidate. Had something similar been written about you it would be a different song you're humming about your hero Aldintern.

I've read various snipes from this person - gender not known - and this one was vicious and totally inappropriate. Maybe he/she hadn't had enough coffee yet?

And to think that everyone screams and pounds the tables about Rogers Parks 'diversity' 'culture' and some of these wannabe well-read people are equivalent to those who talk trash walking on the street. The only difference between the two groups is one was lucky enough to have the opportunity and the others either don't want it or haven't been guided toward it.

At any rate, attacks dont' solve any of our problems that Joe and his pals have made.

I find peope that assume false identities on the blogs to be a bit twisted and not really contributing anything constructive to the discussion.

Margot's letter is on target, especially in naming this area's strenghts and problems.

I did not read aldermansintern's comment as it was deleted before I could, but I assumed she was being her usual facetious self, and in any case regard her (or him)as no one to be taken seriously.

However, someone told me the comment she/he made was really over the top and way in excess of intern's usual facetious attacks on everyone, so I apologize to Margot.

It's one thing to satarize office holders and official candidates, but it's unacceptable to lob real visciousness at a fine person who has made a very positive contribution as a citizen and business owner.

Toto predicts: In the end, they are all going to loose.

Toto, I tend to be optimistic. I believe that either Gordon or Adams will topple Joe. Hopefully, Gordon will, but I'll be glad to see anyone else in, if only because the newbie will be much easier to unseat if he doesn't deliver, because he will not have the war chest and power base that Joe has assembled over the years.

Joe has managed to draw enough unfavorable attention to himself, where before he was ignored, that the tens of thousands of voters who don't follow these blogs have now been made aware of him and they're not happy at all.

These blogs really laid the groundwork even though most residents don't follow them, in that they have made enough noise and triggered enough action to put Moore on the defensive; and because he feels threatened he is making a lot of shrill noise and making himself visible to people who never noticed him before. These people are probably going to go to the trouble to vote this time.

There is no good reason- it's innuendo. I've read Don's website and heard him speak numerous times. He has said "no one will be thrown out of the boat." I can't imagine what actual policy of Don's Thomas could be referring to, which leads me to believe he is playing on the baseless "white banker" label again.
