Kimberly Bares at DevCorp North has been quiet lately. But knowing her days maybe numbered, Kimberly has once again has shamelessly put up a political promotion for Alderman Moore.
I wonder who's paying for these free movies tickets and candy? I didn't notice any paid receipts listed on the D-2's for the last free movie at the Village Theater in December.
Blognotes: If that's how Kimberly is going to play it, all candidate should send DevCorp North their event press releases for DevCorp North to promote on their website also.

Hi Craig,
Something interesting I thought you ought to know in case you don't already....I was shocked when I heard it. Those free Christmas and Valentine's day films at the Village Theater have nothing to do with Joe. He doesn't sponser or subsidize them and they are not an in-kind donation on his behalf from anyone. You or Hugh can look it up. The event is paid for by the owners of the theater - they pay for everything except concessions, which are for sale during the show.
According to my source (an extremely good one) during the last event the kids came in and completely trashed the place and then Joe's staff yelled at the theater's staff. Lovely.
Thought you might want to let your readers know once it gets a little closer to Valentine's Day.
hmmm
> He doesn't sponsor or subsidize them
well I agree I can't find the "sponsorship" dough from Citizens for Joe Moore to the theater
the notice reads:
"Alderman Joe Moore & The Village North Theatre Present"
> they are not an in-kind donation
not sure i agree here
just because no money changes hands does not mean there is no political contribution
that's what an in-kind donation is, a donation of goods or services
I suppose Moore would claim the movies do not benefit his re-election campaign, just something he does as alderman
right
> the kids came in and completely trashed the place and then Joe's staff yelled at the theater's staff. Lovely.
Why yell at the theater staff they didn't trash the place? Did Moore staffers have to clean it up?
That's the price to pay for not having a real not for profit that teaches Manners 101 to the little darlings. If they aren't going to learn civility at home, they need to learn it somewhere.
Wouldn't those be the kids from "affordable housing" trashing the place. Lets say Gordon wins or someone else you all favor. What is going to stop the stupid from acting stupid? Kids who's parents are kids, kids without any at home control, social skills, education. That's what I think when I hear affordable housing. Am I wrong? If so do tell. I have friends who want to keep the area "affordable" and some that want every building condo converted just in hopes of removing the people who trash our streets, shoot guns, mug folks, break in, goon, and the worse of all, leave dog crap on the sidewalk, Sorry that's just one of my issues. Gitmo for dog offenders.
Roxy
good question, thanks
The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce is a REAL chamber of commerce. A chamber of commerce is an IRS 501(c)(6), a business league. Chambers of commerce are permitted some political activity, it cannot be their main purpose, and any expenses of their political activity need to be disclosed annually.
DevCorp North not a chamber of commerce. DevCorp North is a public charity, a 501(c)(3). A public charity is strictly prohibited from all political activity, at risk of their tax exempt status.
Can a tax-exempt organization endorse candidates for public office?
