* ACORN PAC Spreads False Information (Updated)

"Do you trust a man who would exploit the deaths of six innocent children for his own political ends to be our Alderman? Why is he willing to stoop so low to win a office? Do any of us want a person who would stoop to such depths anywhere near a public office?"
ACORN Political Action Committee flyer attacking Don Gordon.

BLOGNOTES: Well folks, the bullshit is really flying about Don Gordon now. And it's no wonder. Alderman Moore is desperate. According to Rich Miller at Capitol Fax, organized labor paid for polls in some aldermanic races two weeks ago. The polls were conducted by Mark Penn.

The 49th Ward polling numbers look like this - Joe Moore 47%, Don Gordon 42%.

Back to the above quotes. They were taken from the a flyer being handed out at the Morse Avenue EL about Don Gordon. A person who claimed to be with ACORN was doing some illegal solicitation on the platform itself. As stealth as this guy tried to be, this video clearly shows his action of spreading false information to try and slander Don Gordon.

With this flyer, Alderman Moore and ACORN are now trying to re-write history and Alderman Moore is using ACORN to spread the false words of information.

The ACORN PAC flyer has it all wrong. The title of the flyer should read, "Who is Joe Moore?"

Alderman Moore is a man with the message of hate and lies. How low will Alderman Moore stoop to win re-election? The flyer never once mentions the Ramirez family came to the Alderman's office months before the deadly fire asking for help in getting their electricity back on. The Alderman turned them away. The Alderman turned his back on this family in a time of need.

The ACORN flyer say's "Are you willing to trust a person who would exploit the deaths of six children for political gain?" Well, are you?

Updated: This is the response I received this morning.

Dear Mr. Gernhardt,

The Office of Inspector General is in receipt of your e-mail regarding the campaigning on CTA property. I have forwarded your e-mail to the relevant supervisors for their review.

Thank you for providing us with this information.

A Open Letter to The CTA board:

Frank Kruesi - CTA President
Carole L. Brown - Chicago Transit Board Chairman

It has come to my attention the citizens to re-elect Joe Moore are using the various CTA platforms in the 49th ward for campaign purposes.

On March 28th I witnessed a political action committee called ACORN passing out flyers for Alderman Joe Moore (49th) on the Morse Avenue EL at 5PM.

Not only do I believe solicitation is a violation of the rules, these flyers also cost the CTA money by having your worker crews pick up the flyers left behind by commuters who drop them on the train floors or leave them on the commuter seat.

This isn't the first time I've been told this alleged illegal activity has happened. Other commuters have told me of similar stories. I have a link to a video I took of the above activity I mentioned above.

If this is not proper, I'm requesting that the CTA formally warn Alderman Moore (49th ward) and all his political action committees to 'cease and desist' from this form of campaigning and monitor the situation until April 17th.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to a rapid response.

Sincerely,

Craig Gernhardt

The flyer has several inaccuracies but that happens when Joe has certain people working the field.

Seems that Don put out a press release about cut-offs long before Joe's light went on.

Joe has principles? Joe really cares about housing for the poor? Is that why Lakeside CDC's report tells us otherwise? Joe's concerns for the poor last far as the polling booth.

Now we can get another report on trash on the CTA. We can blame Joe for that too.

You all should see the dregs that are being directed to the Pottawattomie field house to vote. When ones "Government issued ID card" is a Cook County jail card, and proof of address is some green form letter thing......And when your answer to simple questions is "I don't know nothing about that, I aint never done this before", and you are dressed in the finest of trashy rags.... I wonder who encoureged you to vote, and what did they promise you. I wonder who that vote is for?

where did you get those polling numbers?

Does it really suprise anyone that ACORN is engaged in questionable activity? Heck - look at its track record. (Along with JoMo's of course.)

Cook County jail card, and proof of address is some green form letter thing......

How can this possibly be legal when my wife, who is not a citizen but a naturalized resident, but actually lives here, cannot vote?
It would seem to me that one must show that they ACTUALLY LIVE HERE to vote in the 49th. This can't be the first election that this crap is occurring.

Joe's fliers are stooping pretty low as well. Last one has Rose Green telling the story of how Joe drove out a slumlord in her building and secured funds to make it the "now" senior building.

Hmmmmm!!! Seems to me Rose that he replaced one slumlord for another! I recall talking to you and other members of your building last spring when you showed up at a tenants rights seminar at RPCAN. I also remember shortly after that seminar and email blast that Craig posted on his site, detailing all the problems in your building and asking for the communities help.

Did you authorize Joe to use this in his flier? If Joe has your back, why were you asking Fran Tobin for help?

By the way, wasn't the campaign to stop utility shut offs waged after the death of the Ramirez children?

December 2005 RPCAN letter posted on Craig's blog. How do you like Joe now Rose?

Seniors Feel Like A Prisoners @ Home
Request for support from the Morse Senior Apartments Tenant Association

Bob Davis has been confined to a wheelchair for some time. Two days ago, while coming out of his apartment at 1528 W. Morse, he was attacked and robbed.

This is the THIRD TIME that Bob has been assaulted INSIDE HIS BUILDING.

Other tenants have been threatened or assaulted. Bob Davis says he feels like a prisoner in his home. Rose Green was shoved aside as she was leaving the building by someone that did not belong in the building (the person went up to the apartment that tenants have been telling Jay Johnson's management about for months).

Victoria Michaels lives under the problem apartment and says she's fed up with the late night parties and people coming in and out, presumably doing and trading drugs. She's complained many times, with little response. Victoria is working with RPCAN and the other tenants to re-organize the Morse Senior Apartments Tenant Association.

This latest round of problems is nothing new!

On and off for years, tenants, supported by RPCAN and the Rogers Park Section 8 Tenant Council, have been asking for the "state-of-the art security" they were promised when the building opened at 1528 Morse with such fanfare.

Jay Johnson, the principal owner (Rogers Park Community Council, RPCC, is a partner and part owner of the building) received public subsidy to rehab the building, which had previously been a notorious 'drug house'. Promises of state of the art security was one of the reasons for public support.

There were many management problems from the start. (e.g. weeks with no elevator for seniors and people in wheelchairs)

Tenants fear it's going back to the way it was. When tenants have organized, Johnson has done just enough to appease some of the tenants over the years, but he refuses to install real security measures, such as a security guard or camera.

Johnson's company also promised on-site management, but that does not exist in any meaningful way (there is a management office on-site, but it is rarely staffed).

Victoria Michaels, Bob Davis, Rose Green and others are re-organizing the Tenants Association and are pushing Johnson to deal with the apparent problem tenant and install a real "state-of-the-art' security system, to solve this problem long-term.

The tenant association has drafted a letter to Johnson and have asked for a meeting. But they want support in pressuring him.

Two key players that would have a lot of influence with Johnson and CIG Management would be Alderman Moore and Rogers Park Community Council (RPCC). As Alderman, Moore can be very influential on any building and development issues. Though not responsible for day to day management, RPCC is actually part owner of the building (1528 Morse). But both these players could send a message of solidarity to Jay Johnson, letting him know that they back the tenant association's request for real security, long-term.

It will take about one minute to send a simple email to both Alderman Moore and the RPCC, asking them to lean on Jay Johnson. Just click this link to lean on them.

Please support seniors in demanding safety @ home. (feel free to forward)

There is a person that lived in my building but moved out of State. Two weekends in a row Joe's people have
stopped by to inquire about this
person. We told them that he no longer lives in the State, and they
should remove him from their register.

Because this happened 2 consecutive
weekends in a row... makes me a bit
concerned.

How can we check to see if someone
has voted under his name?

Craig, you should send another open letter to State's Attorney Devine, demanding that he and his ASAs and investigators get off their behinds and prosecute those persons passing this crap on the CTA platform.

As for the claims about what is going on at the early voting site, I would suggest getting the news media in on that action as well, RIGHT NOW!!!

I just had a conversation with a neighbor of mine. She mentioned that at the last CAPS meeting she attended (she didn't mention which beat) Moore claimed that once the park "opens" or "gets going" for the summer that he would see to it that a police car was stationed somewhere within Loyola Park or at one of the street entrances full-time.
Did anyone else attend a recent CAPS meeting to hear the same claim? Do CAPS meetings keep detailed minutes that are public record? I'd like to get a copy of Moore promising this as I'm sure that if he wins on the 17th he'll suffer a bout of amnesia on the 18th about this.

If you believe there could possibly be someone voting for someone who has moved, call the Gordon campaign office and give them the name and address of the person in question and tell them the person has moved.

Dr. O,
There almost always is a cop car down at Loyola Park...does the cop being awake count?

dr o-

The issue came up at the 2423 Beat meeting on the 21st. Joe Moore was not there, however a lady who works for/with him was there (I don't remember her name, she has dark curly hair and her daughter was with her).

The police said that they would time the "Park Car"'s schedule to coincide with the closing of the open gym at Loyola at 9pm so that there would be a police presence when the mobs of people were heading home. The police officers also said that as soon as the summer season started (mid-end of May) there would be an increased presence on the lakefront in the form of Bike Officers. I do not recall if the JoMo representative made any promises with regard to Loyola Park.

However, she did say that she would have the Alderman take care of a street light that was out in the alley behind 1640ish W Estes Ave after a property owner mentioned that people were hanging around back there at night. She quickly offered assistance after the property owner said he called the Alderman's office about it before and nothing happened. The sargent at the CAPS meeting thanked her and then told one of the officers to file a service request about it when he got back to the station. She then said she'd take care of it, no need to worry and the sargent said that filling out the request didn't hurt to make sure it got done. Apparenly the police in 2423 know how things get done...

The next 2423 beat meeting is April 18th, 7pm @ the Trilogy Center, 1400 W Greenleaf. Beat 2423 includes the area bordered by Jarvis on the north, Lunt on the south, Clark on the West and east to the Lakefront.

By the way, I was on Bosworth between Howard and Jonquil Terrace. Acorn had fliered every car on the street and some of the buildings as well. Gordon campaign had been there as well. Campaign literature literally blowing in the wind!!! I intend to talk to the Gordon campaign headquarters tomorrow. I don't recall them instucting mail canvassers to leave fliers in this manner. It only contributes to our already out of hand litter problem and upsets potential voters.

FYI - it is illegal to put fliers on cars in the city of Chicago
