* No Beauty in Rogers Park
Alderman Moore and DevCorp North convinced the taxpayers they were providing services with your tax dollars. Services to make our commercial district cleaner. Yet, when pressed with actual information that in the past three years, Special Service Area #24 hasn't been performing up to it's promises, nothing has happened. The Alderman hasn't done anything to hold them to their promises. DevCorp North hasn't done anything to keep those promsies.
Well, let me take that back, they've collected over $500,000.00 in extra taxes. Yet we still have no beauty in Rogers Park.
So, who else continues to allow this to happen? Every Special Service Area commissioner, that's who. Folks like Katy Hogan for one. And Matthew Brokhaw. And Ora Harris. The list goes on and on. These commissioners allow our neighborhood to look like this every-time they vote in favor of a project that DevCorp North sets on the table.
The commissioners must not even bother checking up on what they voted for. Otherwise they'd find flower planters that look like this. If anyones ever walked by these ugly looking, trash filled planters, they'll tell you, they always look like this.
This isn't a one time problem. This is a everyday occurrence. You have to wonder if these commissioners will close their eyes and vote for Alderman Moore on April 17th too?

Get rid of the commissioners, and the SSAs. What are we paying for here? Just more layers of bureaucracy, as far as I can see.
Let business owners be responsible for the upkeep of the area in front of their businesses, as has always been the rule in the past.
In the meantime, get rid of the ugly, boxy planters. Morse and Howard aren't up for planters and benches yet- it is like putting makeup and jewelry on someone who never takes a bath or washes her clothes.
The SSAs are only a way to soak the taxpayers for more money, to create more worthless bureacratic jobs that only add to the cost of running the city, with no benefit in return unless you consider a paychecks for bureacratic goldbricks who might otherwise be unembloyed to be a benefit . Let those people find real jobs, and return the extra tax to the struggling business and property owners in the district.
ya know what? i don't blame the ssa for this problem. i blame the lazy residents of the 49th ward for this problem. the ssa isn't forcing people drop their trash wherever they please. the ssa isn't asking people to litter our neighbhorhood. do i hate beaucracy? absolutely. but to solve the real issue here would be to get people care about the neighborhood and be responsible for their actions.
Hey Craig, how about a clean-up competition between Alderman Joe "Goose Champion" Moore and Don "Skeletor" Gordon. Maybe consecutive Saturdays before the election? I know my block could use it.I'd send you pictures, but somebody stole the digital camera out of my car.
Just don't get me started on the trash this Spring. It's appalling.
