* 'Any Day Now' is Here

After all the false hoopla from Joe Moore, this morning at 6AM, the Common Cup at 1501 West Morse Avenue finally opened it's doors for the first time. And guess what? There was a caffeine addicted crowd waiting for their morning java fix.

Interestingly enough, with all that pre-election Moore talk, taking all the credit for this new business two months ago - Joe wasn't even around to welcome them to the neighborhood with a fancy ribbon cutting ceremony and to pick up his cup of 'Joe' (slang for coffee) this morning.

Didn't Joe know today was the 'any day now' day?

Don't be like Joe. Stop by the Common Cup at 1501 West Morse and say 'hi' to the owner Ruth. And don't forget to pick up a fresh cup of piping hot coffee or a pound of beans. What a way to start the day. Whatever day it is.

Can't wait to check this place out! Wasn't able to today, going to Indianapolis later so had large luggage with me. Will be back on Friday, hope to check it out over the weekend.

Congrats to Ruth and John Hoekwater for opening a great spot, and a welcome new enterprise for Morse Avenue! This morning a friend and I slid into the comfy couch-chairs on the south end of the shop and enjoyed our tasty pasties and some Earl Grey tea. This new place is going to be busy.

On a separate note, the owner of the Village North/Starbucks building just painted the CITY-OWNED bike racks day-glo bright green.

Can Craig get a shot of that? Called the Ward office to complain but they hemmed and hawed. Will see if he will paint it back to black as he does not own that property, nor the racks. Just another nuisance landlord that continues to crap up the neighborhood freely.

Try the ice cream! We tried it tonight and have vowed to stop by once a week.

According to the website, here's a great thing about the Common Cup...it stays open in the evening. Please, don't change that schedule!

A place to gather in the evening that isn't a bar (nothing against bars, but not always the right thing) is a welcome addition.

It's funny but whenever I've heard Joe Moore talk about a new retail business planned for the neighborhood, he never mentions it by name, even if the business owners have their branding worked out and Moore knows what it is.

He always says something like "a new coffee shop" or "a new wine and cheese place" instead of generously giving the prospective owners a bit of a plug while he's going on about the frenzy of retail expansion in the ward.

Is there method here, or does he just have a really bad memory?
