* Homophobia Happens North of Howard

Not So Good News from the Good News Partners

Bud Ogle of the New Life Interim Housing, a homeless shelter in Rogers Park neighborhood, discriminated against admitted lesbian, 27 year-old, Michelle Wang, on the basis of sexual orientation.

"Some of our staff are less comfortable with homosexual, gay and lesbian folks than others are," Ogle said in an interview Friday outside his Good News Partners Ministry office at 1600 West Jonquil Terrace.

The New Life shelter, which has 30 beds for women and children, receives $150,000 each year in funding from the city. Not to mention the property doesn't show up on the property tax roll.

Full sad story here.

This makes me flaming furious. This woman is absolutely as entitled to assistance as anyone else, if Ogle's mission is receiving any sort of public funds. There are few enough beds for homeless women in this city- someone told me that there are only one fifth as many beds for homeless women as men. Will someone who knows supply us with the exact number?

The Christian Right is an enemy of civilization second only to fundamentalist Islam.

.... and Bud Ogle is a well-known Enemy of Rogers Park Civilization. He admits criminal scum who help make keep the potentially lovely NOH neighborhood an absolute sewer, yet rejects a nice lesbian because some of his staffers feel "uncomfortable" with her sexual orientation.

Strange... they seem to be perfectly OK with robbers, dopers, murderers, and even child molesters, but a lesbian lady discomfits them.

What right do these damn people have to be funded with OUR money?

Ogle's mission should have lost his tax-exempt status long ago for engaging in politics.

Let's call on the gay community to finish the job.

I'd like to hear a comment from aldermanic stooge Ginderske, the former Official Aldermanic Candidate of Good News, Inc. (R)

HEY BUD!

Sorry you're having a bad Monday guy, but here's ANOTHER

NEWS FLASH

for you:

If you have 30 beds, and you are fully booked, as you claim, odds are

YOU HAVE LESBIANS IN YOUR SHELTER, RIGHT NOW!

Getting beat up black & blue, getting impregnated every time you turn around, and tossed out on the curb, that will tend to put you off your taste for penises.

At the door, show some chick-on-chick pics to each of your prospective clients while holding your hand on their nipples, see if you get a reaction.

Oh, what ignorance! Being gay is not the result of abuse by the opposite sex, Hugh. It is something entirely natural, an orientation that people are born with.

Bottom line? Being gay: NOT A BIG DEAL. Being a gangster, drug dealer, or child or partner abuser? Now THOSE are moral problems I'm deeply concerned with.

thanks for the lecture on being gay!

BTW, I don't really think Bud should clasp his hands on his customer's breasts while showing them girly pics, either!

A GLBT task force study found that 20-40% of homeless youth are LGBT - and discrimination against queer youth in homeless shelters are a indication that homeless advocacy groups won't ask for federal funding for diversity training or LGBT-focused programs because they fear that the religious right will retaliate by taking away funding from homeless shelters.

So is this Falwell's legacy? Is this the religion Rev. Bud Ogle preaches?

Ms. Wang's blunder was trying to book the night of "The L Word" season finale at the last minute. Sunday nights are ALWAYS the wildest night of the week at Bud's Big Ladies Lock-In Pajama Party, but the season finale, fuggetaboutit.

OF COURSE the property does not show up on the tax rolls. Any property owned and used by a not-for-profit, religious organization, or (I believe) educational institution, is exempt from taxation.

However, in order to maintain that status, you are supposed to stay out of politics, or you become a PAC, and lose your tax exempt status.

You are also not supposed to discriminate on the basis of race, sex, gender orientation, creed, or ethnicity if you receive tax money from any taxing authority.
